At this point, Riot might as well just make Ascension and Legend of the Poro King permanent

I don't understand why they keep bringing back those two game modes when the community clearly wants other game modes like URF back, and Black Market Brawlers, which is currently one of the game modes that the community is asking to come back the most, wasn't even featured ever since they released the "rotating" game mode.

If Riot doesn't want to bring back URF for the fear they might get stale and boring, why they are always bringing back Ascension and Poro King?

Yep.

Over 13 months since we've had regular URF, nearly 9 months since One-For-All, but hey, at least we get Poro King, Ascension and Nexus Siege all the time.

"We know URF is the most popular game mode, we also know that Hexakill (on summoner's rift) and One-For-All were very popular, but here at Riot Games we do enjoy being a bit passive-aggressive and rather than giving you what you WANT, we give you what we want, so fuck you". --Riot Games 2017.

We haven't had nexus seige in a long time.

Hexakill was never popular on summoners rift.

Urf has a lot of problems, hence arurf.

I like ascension, but i despise poro king with a passion. It's all high range poke and zone + supports. Even worse than aram because you can choose your busted comp every game instead of it being random

SSJTribe27 votes

you're not, actually the most popular rotating game modes are Ascension and Poro King, that's why they come around so often.

Junglerz Fault8 votes

I figured so, maybe the most vocal of boards people are the urf fans.

Glory ln Death26 votes

Until we actually get it, and the Boards floods with players who despise the mode and how quickly it settles into "we only ever see 5-10 different champions every single game".

garren913 votes

But then when they get ARURF to fix that, they complain about how they can't choose the champion they want to play.

YumaS2Astral10 votes

It is not that I don't like them, but more that I've got tired of them. Riot said they don't want URF to become stale. Yet they give us Ascension and Poro King every other week.

Paquay13 votes

I think Ascension is fine. It's Poro King that I have an issue with. It's basically the same exact thing as ARAM (which I love) with one added mechanic. If there was something more unique about it then I'd think it was great, but to me it feels like a game mode I already play.

SSJTribe8 votes

I totally agree with you, but there are a lot of people who love it. It's been awhile (like December I think) so I probably can't find the quote but I'm pretty sure a Rioter said it was THE most popular RGM in terms of plays per rotation.

Paquay2 votes

Wow that's crazy. I wonder why that is. Maybe because it's so similar to ARAM already that people can continue to play it without getting bored of it (assuming they already play a healthy amount of ARAM).

I'm a new player so it's a bummer I've never had the chance to do things like one for all or several others. I think in the 6 months I've played I've seen about 6 or 7 rotating game modes. Hopefully some others will pop up soon.

mkyner11 votes

Poro King is probably popular because it's essentially ARAM without the random aspect. A simple one-lane brawl, but you get to pick your champion.

Paquay3 votes

That's a good point. I'm willing to bet (not a large amount, just a dollar or two) that if they had a game mode that was howling abyss and you pick your champs, it'd be more popular than than Poro King.

That way it's just straight up fighting without having to worry about feeding the big angry Poro some chili snacks.

420 grams3 votes

It's nothing like aram. You pick your own champion (the opposite of the first 2 letters of aram), you have to use their summoners with a short cd, and you get to summon the poro king. Saying it's like aram is like saying ARURF is like summoners rift; sure they're on the same map with same objective, but they're definitely different.

Disembark2 votes

I don't think they are. Every single person I know that plays league likes One-For-All and URF way more than Poro King and Ascension (thats like 30-40 people).

I'd think if the game mode was so popular at least some of my friends would like them/ever play them (just statistically). Also reddit has the same opinion concerning URF.

Xonra3 votes

Of course they are the "most popular" when the other modes are never there to get stats for said "popular mode". That is a completely misleading stat. You must be a secret Riot employee or something with a stat like that.

I'll trade Poro and DnD for the original dominion. Maybe ascension too. That'd be a tough decision though.

Well, their data may show that those 2 modes don't get stale and boring, based on the number of people who play them. Other modes like URF probably have really high initial numbers, but may drop really quickly, showing that people get bored or (more likely for URF) irritated/tilted more easily in those modes. Ascension and Poro King may have more stable numbers - never as high as URF's initial numbers, but people continue to play consistently, with much lower drop-off.

I don't know the actual numbers or reasons Riot has, but this seems like a reasonable theory.

Cavesloth12 votes

I donno what you're talking about numbers dropping off, I played URF every game I could when it was out, and the que times were never more than like 10 sec, it usually popped faster than a bot game. None of the other modes can boast such popularity.

Xonra3 votes

That's some b.s data and some way off the reservation logic (If that were true from Riot, not directed at you).

People spend all the week with mostly just summoner's rift (TT isn't popular at all, to the point I know people rl who forget it is even there. and not everyone likes aram), so the weekend comes and anything different they will play.

There are plenty of things in life that aren't my favorite pastimes, but they are something different sometimes, so I will do them to not just do the same old same old.

Just FYI, we know the REAL reason why we got so much of those two modes, and it is simply because for some reason those were the only two modes they could get working correctly from the start with the new client. It was literally nothing else (they said as much a while ago).

Lintu Puck6 votes

How many times does this need to be explained. Modes like ascension and poro king are breathing periods for the riot teams to have SOMETHING out for the rotating mode while they balance lesser used modes and come up with new modes. On top of this, some modes will probably NEVER come back for one reason or another. We have ARURF instead of Regular URF so matches have more variety instead of everyone always picking the same champions. Black Market Brawlers is one of the modes not likely to return due to the complexity or something.

At the end of the day we are going to keep getting Ascension and Poro King much more than Nexus Siege or other modes, and this is actually for the best. If you don't like Ascension or Poro King, than just don't play those modes.

Complete bullshit right there way to look like a giant tool.

If it was like you say and those modes are the only ones coming up to give riot time to work on other modes then why don't the other modes that are already working with the new client come out as well hmm? And don't give me any bullshit about "hurr durr they have to make sure the mode is balanced before releasing" or anything like that.

None of these rotating modes are balanced they all have their stupid fucking metas.

Lintu Puck4 votes

It isn't just balance. Making this stuff and making sure it isn't bugged to hell is a long and hard process, believe it or not.

  1. Brainstorm.
  2. Beta test idea.
  3. Create assets.
  4. Promotional stuff.
  5. More tests.
  6. PBE
  7. Live. As far as I understand, the above that I post here is a possible basic outline of how modes are made. and between live periods they take modes back to the shop for minor tweaks and what not.
iDemacia1 votes
  1. URF is already made and nothing new needs added to it nobody is asking for anything new.
  2. Above leaves nothing to beta test ^. (not to mention poro king and ascension haven't been getting any new changes or anything so what's your argument for those huh?
  3. Again no new assets need to be created this game mode has already been in the queue in the new client it does work bud.
  4. They don't promote the rotating game modes what the hell are you even talking about now?
  5. More tests for what exactly?
  6. URF has already been on the PBE and through onto the client please stop pulling random excuses out of your ass.

Seems like all you want to do is make up reasons why the same modes are being recycled over and over. Because if any of that was true it would also apply to those modes which it clearly does not with the amount of times they have shown up.

Please go be stupid somewhere else.

Lintu Puck3 votes

you obviously don't seem to understand the purpose of tests >.> Believe it or not everything is CONSTANTLY tested. By Riot Staff, by Pros, by the PBE. Between New Champions, Reworks, and constant number changes on each champ that is multiple changes per patch for every mode they intend to run during the patch. Some modes need bigger checks than others. And they are ALWAYS checking the numbers.

iDemacia1 votes

So now you're gonna turn to attacking me because you see no other way you can win this failing argument huh?

If everything is being tested as much as you say and this requires said things to be not available as a rotating game mode then why are Ascension and Poro King exempt from this huh bud??? And if you want to say that the modes not making returns require more work then what exactly is it that makes them require more work?

In URF it's all about the champions and while the buff does change a lot with them there's arguably more that requires "work" in Poro King and Ascension. You still have the champions that need their fine tuning etc (if they really want to do it I mean be honest with yourself none of these modes are balanced) but then you also have to deal with things like the champions interactions with the Poro King or with Xerath, the poro food for the king in Poro King etc.

Lintu Puck4 votes

how am I attacking you? also if anyone here attacked anyone, it was you by calling me a tool. >.>

As for Ascension and Poro King, they have the most done and don't have as much to check. They also have the most done and always cleared to go because Riot did so on purpose. They are among the least popular modes so it isn't as bad for riot if players get burned out on those modes. This also helps boost the hype and eagerness for any other mode they put out. If ARURF was out as much as Ascension people would of gotten tired of it, much like people were getting tired of regular URF way back when. Since URF and now ARURF are so big the key thing to keeping it big is to not have it out as much. It makes us want it more that way.

iDemacia1 votes

You're right I did and I apologize. This subject gets me pretty heated and it was uncalled for.

And you attacked me with the first thing you said. "you obviously don't seem to understand the purpose of tests >.>" Claiming I don't understand the purpose of a test and the way you worded some of the things in the paragraph you make it sound like you're talking to an idiot.

As for Ascension and Poro King, they have the most done and don't have as much to check. They also have the most done and always cleared to go because Riot did so on purpose. This whole statement is full of so many things that are just made up because they fit your argument I mean are you even reading what you're posting?

Where did you get the information that Ascension and Poro King somehow have less to "check" and are the "most done" of the modes?

And all keeping URF and ARURF out is doing is making me want to uninstall. Can't speak for others on the subject but that's what it's doing to me when I constantly see the same two modes coming more frequently than any other 4 modes combined.

When lotpk and Ascension are up the players that enjoy those modes aren't here on the forums for the most part. They're having fun in game enjoying their favorite modes. That's all I've ever wanted from this rotating queue and while I do enjoy some of the modes that come up still I rarely get to play my favorites which is my entire problem with the rotating queue.

Lintu Puck4 votes

I base my information on what little I remember from the dev blogs Riot has been posting here on this site this year and my base understanding of how the process of making and releasing modes goes.

Let's try looking at this a different way. What is your favorite food? Would you eat it all the time everyday? Wouldn't you eventually get sick of it? If everyday was your birthday/christmas (if you celebrate it), wouldn't it start to lose meaning and enjoyment pretty quickly? If the same sport was being played ever day it probably were out both the players and the audience. In WWE they have Brock Lesnar kept relatively fresh and popular by only showing up a few times every few months instead of trying to keep him at the top as a regular, as fans have quickly turned on other stars for constantly being at the top of the pecking order while being on each and every show.

WHERE THE HELL IS URF

Unpaladin5 votes

This wouldn't be so bad if they didn't make the same mode go up for two weekends in a row. When it comes to modes that are actually looked forward to it's great, but when there's ones that Riot just shoves in there it's fucking daunting.

That's most of an entire patch with only one game mode, and it only puts out the more unique and anticipated ones once every 3 months. At this point it's not rotating, it's just "come back every other week and maybe we'll actually bother giving you something new."

Glory ln Death3 votes

They used to do different modes every weekend, but they just talked about why it changed in an Ask Riot a few weeks back. Apparently, it takes significantly more work to put two modes in a single patch than to put one in, which was slowing down production of new modes.

Dethflash5 votes

One for all, hexakill, and Definitely Not dominion. Ive been asking Rioters about Black Market Brawlers for months now, closes thing ive gotten as an answer is that if Black Market Brawlers were to return it would need so many changes and tweaks that it wouldnt be the same game mode anymore, but idk i just want a game mode similar to Black Market Brawlers most the being able to pick what minion you want and all the crazy items

Glory ln Death8 votes

They have specifically stated that BMB will never return. They may create different modes that focus on a single aspect of BMB (either the minion enhancement stuff or the crazy items), but never both. Because the mode tried to do both, neither was very well developed, and every game felt like one aspect (usually the minions) was completely irrelevant and useless.

Dethflash2 votes

Im totally fine if riot makes 2 or 3 separate game modes based of BMB. If i had to pick only one aspect though it be picking what kind of minions you want

Erockandroll3 votes

Riot's still kinda working on implementing the older game modes. And that's competing with the desire to create new ones as well.

But be honest, the only reason were asking Riot of this, is to stop them from clogging up the RGMQ. Chances are, if those game modes became permanent, they would loss their luster real quickly, Riot would loss any justification to actually support those game modes, and they will go the way of Dominion.

I am surprised how many people say that ARURF gets boring fast, literally every time that mode is up me and my 5 friends play 24/7 every day of the extended weekend. It never gets boring to us,never gets boring to me. I would always want to play few games of ARURF to went off, to spam, its such satisfaction. Please RIOT make this game mode more often. Its ARURF and people cant abuse op champions.
