Season 6 preseason NEEDS to equalize gold for supports

slippykitten··5 votes·1,368 views

Supports have made a lot of headway since the beginning, but they haven't arrived yet. The support role is still unnecessarily frustrating in nearly every level of play due to being nothing more than a tool for your adc.

Every other role has viability in their own right outside the performance of other players to alter the outcome of the game. Support is still (although not as much as before) tied directly to the success of their adc. This is especially frustrating in solo q where your adc dc's or gets a bug up their butt in the middle of the game and you are left with no gold, no items, and no options.

Riot needs to come up with a balanced, viable solution to the doormat-support role. This could be done by simply sharing all minion gold with a lane partner, which might even open up viable 2 man top strategies. This may not work, but we need something to allow supports to impact the game outside just being the adc's personal concubine.

Supports arn't tools for your ADC. They're almost entirely responsible for winning the lane. Having a good thresh that lands hooks and flays means the difference between winning or losing bot. The reason you need supports is to protect your team's late game plan, AKA the ADC.

If you equalize gold you would just have to nerf supports. They are balanced around providing massive utility with minimal gold. Many supports are capable of putting out high levels of damage with minimal items (Vel'koz, Zyra).

What do you mean "sharing gold with a lane partner"? Do you mean they both get equal gold? Is it split in half? Because if it's split in half, that's a major reason NOT to have a support in the lane. If they both get equal gold there would be very little reason to solo lanes, or to jungle anymore.

If you really think supports "can't impact the game", go watch Xspecial playing Thresh. He routinely knocks J4's out of the air when they try to engage with his team. if you don't think that's game winning, I don't know what to say.

Once again, someone refers to 5 man team games (nevermind pro level play) which is an entirely different animal. In the rest of the game though, you are severely disadvantaged by not having gold if you are laning with an bad adc, or if the adc goes afk, or if the adc refuses to work with you. You are crippled in a way no other role is.

I've said this since i started the game, usually downvoted into oblivion though.

Supports are used mostly for their utility and ability to initiate and disengage teamfights. Supports have strong kits that are optimal for supports and that is their primary role. I disagree with you in the fact that it is frustrating at nearly every level of play because they are a "tool" for the ADC. Support assists the "TEAM" with their utility and map vision. Supports are just fine and dont need to have a massive dank bank and solo carry.

Supports would use their extra gold for more utility and map vision. We saw that at the start of Season 4 when supports got a huge boost in income. More gold =/= solo carry. Distributing the gold a little more equally helps supports do their job even better.

I love supporting, but despite the low income, not because of it. If I could get more gold without hurting my team, I would definitely enjoy supporting even more.

It's just unnecessary because they already have plenty of gold income for what they need to get and have lots of impact in the laning phase/grouping phase. I think supports are in the best place compared to how they used to be played. Sometimes as a support i get full 6 item build before some carries. Just try to roam more and get those ganks down.

Or you could support the rest of the team.

Maybe "accidentally" set up a monster wave in bot lane and roam mid to get your Burst Carry fed.

Coordinate with Jungle invades.

Speaking of the Jungler, you can take one from their book and abandon the lane if it is a total stomp to help a different lane that might actually be useful later in the game.

These are options only available to premades. If you do anything that can even be construed as negative to your adc, you are likely to be flamed, afked on or reported.

The entire point of the support postion is that they are picked for their ability to be useful with a much lesser gold income than everyone else. To equal out the gold the support and the adc get ruins the foundation of basic team composition... that gold is funneled into those who use it best, with the adc (or certain hyperscaling mages) as the normal priority. If the two partners in a duo lane were to have equal gold, the total gold output of a lane could not be dramatically higher than the others (bot is already much higher than the others due to support items already), thus the ADC would get less gold overall in a duo lane. It would cause a great shakeup to the meta, since some ADCs would want to go solo for a higher gold income, and supports would likely be sent to a lane with a early game bruiser with good kill potential. Supports would still be position 5 in gold income. "Equalizing" income is not actually needed for supports.

And having the adc support bot lane meta change after 6 years without interruption would be bad?

In that way? Yes.

DOTA has a system where supports get even less relative gold than in league, and have even less carry potential, yet its meta is infinitely more diverse. Obviously support gold income isn't the thing keeping the meta the way it is.

if you want to normalize gold for supports, you just need to lower the cost of traditional support items. like sightstone drops down to say 1300gold from 1600 total. face of the mountain 2200? down to 1950. mikaels 2450? down to 2000.

these items are very limited use for anyone who isn't a supporting champion, theres no reason why their average gold earnings shouldn't get them the same amount of items as their partner carry. whats this? our adc went 15-0 and has 5 expensive shiny IE's? why does the janna whos 0/0/15 have 3 items...... working on the 4th.....
