I can't prove a question wrong. But no he isn't garbage. Trundle didn't get played in finals at worlds because he is a garbage and duke wanted to troll pick.

All the "garbage" jokes aside he's pretty fuckin bad right now. Both of the keystones he took for top lane got nerfed (grasp and fervor) well, fervor ironically got moved away from true on-hit style auto attackers; toward helping crit users and/or champions with AD scaling on their abilities. Also he just got all kinds of nerfs in season 6 and nothing to compensate in season 7 so far. Some nerfs were targeted at top lane trundle, and some were targeted at support trundle, but all in all, a nerf is a nerf and it's going to bleed into all the roles the champion plays.

Just a list of nerfs trundle got in season 6:

Can't bite towers anymore
Pillar mana cost from 60 to 75 all ranks
Ult Cooldown increased to 110 / 90 / 70 from 80 / 70 / 60.
Ult Mana cost increased to 100 from 75.
Base health regen reduced to 6 from 9.425
Pillar Cooldown changed to 22 / 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 seconds from 23 / 20 / 17 / 14 / 11

Well it's season 7 now, and nobody plays trundle (feel free to look at his pick rate), you think maybe after 6 direct consecutive nerfs and 7 total nerfs including grasp/fervor, you think maybe riot would buff him? But as far as I can tell he's not on their radar at all.

Now-a-days he's basically trapped between being a top lane juggernaut style champion and a bot lane support, but basically excelling at neither.

Reverting the cooldown nerf to Subjugate would help a lot. His early game, while decent, isn't strong enough to warrant that kind of nerf. CD nerfs are always the worst, because they more or less change how the champion plays. I really wish they would revert the Q nerf as well. It's silly that Garen and Wukong are better tower destroyers than Trundle now, especially since Wukong is a better teamfighter and Garen is a bigger lane bully.

Yeah I have no clue why so many top lane champions are allowed to demolish towers but apparently it's not ok if trundle does it even though he's kind of meant to be a split-push duelist type champion. Like have you seen what item 3078 Camille does to towers? I mean the nerf made sense last season when the towers were more paper than they are now. But now it's like "lets take that away from trundle and then just let a new champion do the same thing."

Honestly, I think someone at Riot just wanted a reason to nerf him. I can deal with a Pillar nerf and can itemize around Subjugate having a longer CD, but the Q nerf just feels awful. I still haven't gotten used it. I'm more or less forced into getting Trinity Force every game if I want to destroy towers fast now.

he is pretty much only strong when supertanks are strong, and even then they just nerf him, and after that they nerf supertanks, leaving him even worse off than before.

It's like riot doesnt know how meta impacts importance of certain champions
