New Galio has the best tank kit of all time.

DunkinNoobs··96 votes·4,783 views

I've never seen such a strong mix of CC, mobility, and damage reduction on the same champ. He has 3 AOE hard CC's. He has damage reduction on 2 different abilities. He has a short CD dash that knocks people up. He has his ulti to cockblock any attempt to pick off squishies on his team. He can even use it to save himself since it has such a short channel.

But at least he gives up damage and waveclear for this bodyguard dream kit, right? Of course he doesn't. His damage is extremely high for a tank and his waveclear is top notch. But at least he's weak in lane early like most tanks, right? Wrong. He's a lane bully tank, as if that makes any fucking sense. But he's an anti-AP tank right? So picking AD champs against him should do the trick! Lol. I've seen Galios routinely body champs like Riven out of lane without any problems.

precisely why is is too strong. To be an amazing CC tank with great survivability. You should give up damage. He doesnt. Which is why he is too strong.

Assassin Give up Survivability to have Damage. Tanks like Galio give up nothing.

Ralanr36 votes

Durability, not survivability. He has no sustain.

Melledoneus16 votes

He's far more durable than tanks like Shen and Sion, who also lack sustain. His damage is also significantly higher than the both of them.

Ralanr4 votes

I really don't see how his damage is higher than Sion's.

ChaosThief20 votes

I would think his reliable damage is higher than Sion's. Sion has to fully charge his Q and his ult needs some distance to inflict maximum damage, galio simply needs an enemy to stay in one spot which he can force.

kasfas3 votes

Plus there's more than one way to avoid sion q damage, its not %max hp, it doesn't scale with doran's rings and it isn't as long range. It even deals, ahem, 60% REDUCED DAMAGE TO MINIONS!!!

Side note, why is it that tanks main abilities lately have all had% max hp damage on them? Riot had just reworked all tanks to have less reliable damage, yet champions like Shen, Galio and Poppy continue to have it on their main ability, all of which are INCREDIBLY RELIABLE. I've said that more of poppy's damage should be moved into the second parts of her q and e many times, because I play her, and yet she remains unchanged in that regard. I would have put 3% max hp on the first tick, and 6% on the second, while increasing the base damage of her e when it wall slams by 200%, potentially also moving some of the % damage on that as well. Rito get on it!

Back on topic.

Other similar comparisons can be made about their other abilities. Sion e is about as easy to avoid as Gallo q, but doesn't have a dot, isn't % max hp damage, and has a much longer cooldown (Granted sion's does slow). Sion's w doesnt reduce damage, and also doesn't have a massive aoe taunt attached. And one more thing, Galio's passive isn't useless past 5 minutes.

Not to mention the fact that he can be flexed into three lanes easily, and is viable in four of the five total.

Ralanr2 votes

It's to make them able to fight bruisers. Plus what would you put them on? Poppy's E?

Lothàrs Edge1 votes

Uh well let's see. Sion needs to be able to walk up close with his shield still unbursted to manually cast it himself. He needs to charge Q. His E does relatively no damage.

Galio's Q first tick of damage (passing through champion) at like level 4 Q does 200 dmg.

That's funny. His E does no relative damage. Rich really.

Old Galio had a taunt and a slow, along with no mobility. Thus his damage was okay and didn't make him go out of line like new Galio.

somewhat related,

Xayah should be giving up DPS for her burst, but she doesnt. She gets the best of both worlds and can 100-0 with her e while still having steady DPS.

Still waiting for her E to be nerfed, tbh. Surprised it hasn't been yet.

3 AOE hard CC's

W, R = 2. The E is single targeted.

He has damage reduction on 2 different abilities.

At least the second one isn't for himself. "At least".

He has a short CD dash that knocks people up.

For something single targeted, 6s cd for a predictable knock up seems okay to me. This is probably the fairest part of his kit.

He can even use it to save himself since it has such a short channel.

I wouldn't mind if it was given the Pantheon's R's channel time BUT the arrival time should be reduced then. Or his ult would be way weaker.

Lol. I've seen Galios routinely body champs like Riven out of lane without any problems.

Even though I don't play Galio on lane, I do like the idea of a Riven who can't kill a tank easily early game.

It may be predictable, but it's still really hard to dodge because of it's Gragas style shitbox.

You realize it currently has a 1 second channel and ~1 second arrive (I think). And it also gets CC.

I mean look at Shen's, and realize that Galio R is still a large area TP spell and a semi-reliable escape (1 second channel is not that long for a tank if you already blew ur CC).

Although this is probably the fairest part of Galio's kit, in my opinion.

Even though I don't play Galio on lane, I do like the idea of a Riven who can't kill a tank easily early game.

That's a lot of tanks, actually. Riven's ability to kill a tank dramatically falls off upon completion of Chain Vest. She needs to fast combo you at least ~2-3 times before getting you low enough to all in.

Melledoneus3 votes

After the animation cancelling changes even Shen has to play defensive against Riven now, because he can no longer react in time to her combos.

But yeah, tanks cockblock her snowball.

Um what

The only changes were to the fast combo, I believe.

E+W is what they'd engage with, and E+W has always been incredibly fast.

E-W no longer has a lockout period.

A few notes, early on his damage reductions aren't very strong, they also rely on galio stacking MR to be effective, which versus an AD heavy team miiight not be the best idea.

Also, Galio's E causes him to move back slightly then propel himself forward. If you happen to be on top of galio, he simply rams into you, so he can't escape versus people who actually get into his face.

tank design has gotten more and more obnoxious lately

tanks are given stronger defensive steroids, more CC per ability, and still have the base damage to beat the shit out of squishies and sometimes duel bruisers. as terrible as her new kit is, at least sejuani has the decency to do zero damage to someone for 10 seconds to someone after she pops her combo

DunkinNoobs7 votes

I'm actually really upset they did that to Sejuani because it's such a radical departure from her previous identity. Old Sej was a Diver/Initiator Hybrid that had quite high AOE dps for a tank in exchange for less burst. New Sej is a CC bot that has a good bit of upfront burst and no DPS whatsoever. Why they changed her playstyle so radically while champs like Zac got to stay the same is a mystery to me. All I know is, I hardly play Sej anymore. I have trouble 1v1ing squishies in situations where I could have 1v2ed them before the rework, and that's just no fun.

Big Lincoln7 votes

i hate the rework too, i only play her because i don't really enjoy any other tank junglers

doesn't even fit with riot's own original goals of being a 'leader' or whatever dumb shit they came up with. she's barely harder to play and way harder to balance

five oh tree 2 votes

Bruh, I have no idea what you're talking about with sej, her base damages are as high as galio's.

Big Lincoln12 votes

no they aren't, Galio will do a lot more damage than Sejuani will, especially in an extended fight

Asayake 5150glow12 votes

Hmm... I think prenerf Naut or Poppy might've been on his level actually.

Bob the Toastr2 votes

I think Naut.

4th3t0s3 votes

Poppy at least required someone foolishly hanging near walls; and her waveclear was still gated by mana.

Tormentula7 votes

Also she has to all in her opponents in order to actually fight them, which required more timing around her opponent's cooldowns and the minion wave to make the trade worth it. Galio just pokes with Q from a small but decent distance chipping your health constantly, with no fear of either.

Honestly Riven actually stands a chance against Galio, her dashes mean Q poke is a lot less powerful, and even getting locked down doesn't hurt as much because you can E away. It's semi-immobiles like Wu who have a problem - only targeted dashes which can't be used to dodge Q poke or E follow up.

ChaosThief2 votes

AD champions in general can give galio a run for his money if you know what you're doing. Hell, level 1 WW slaughters him if he isn't careful.

It just depends on you knowing when to fight him and when to realize he's still a colossus.

Bisaknosp8 votes

i just want his q to deal reduced damage to minions he reminds me a bit of toplane gragas back then (when his q didnt deal reduced dmg to minions) who could farm/harass very effectively at the same time

6KEMBE4ORBA6 votes

That's just one example.

Riot's new flavour is bad game design.

Tanks doing dmg or champs going tanky without a noticeable trade-off in dmg is what is wrong with this game.

itemization is pure shit also (nothing new though).

Masteries are worse.

New SR map is worse (cause of the bugs)

New minion behaviour/blocking WHICH WAS FINE LIKE 2-3 YEARS AGO, is worse now.

Runes are fine SURPRISE ---> that is cause Riot hasn't touched them (yet).

Targon4 votes

I definitely think Galio needs nerfs.

If they want to move him towards being more of an anti-AP tank, then one step they could take was change his shield of durand so that he gets damage reduction only from magic damage.

If they want to move him towards being a tankier AP mage (similar to Vladimir or Swain), then they should also nerf his base damages and maybe increase his AP ratios.

Blåbæret4 votes

Maokai Reworked because he was a generalist. Releases Galio which does everything well.

Why do we still take Riot seriously?

The boards don't know shit about the game. This whole community is a huge circlejerk and they weren't ready to admit that Galio is OP until an authority figure stated the obvious.

Ah O Yeah Harder3 votes

He needs a nerf on his max health % damage in my opinion

His abilities are really easy to dodge, I just think he does too much damage when he manages to land one.

Let's just wait for doran nerfs then simply up his q manacost to the point he needs items like item 3010 to spam.

Ralanr7 votes

He got a bunch of dorans rings because spamming his abilities normally would cause him to go oom...so nerfing dorans already should be enough.

Jeddy0171 votes

Oh, when I read the title, I assumed this was going to be a thread praising Galio. Then I read the thread & it turns out to be a nerf thread.

Roelo2 votes

Well, when galio has the best tank kit in the game, there would be no reason to pick other tanks since galio can do their job better anyways.
