Anyone else feel like Mage items are poorly designed?
I'm not saying mages are underpowered or AD mids are overpowered, just using them as an example becuase they have such a wide variety of items to deal with most situations.
AD mids don't have boots that provide damage, so they get to build Merc Treads if they are worried about CC. Mages don't have this luxury, because without the MPen from boots, they do 0 damage until their Void Staff. AD mids get to build Mercurial Scimitar, an item that a removes CC, provides high damage, lifesteal and Movespeed as well as base MR. AD mids get to build Edge of Night, keeping their damage while absorbing multiple skills from enemies. AD mids get to build Maw of Freeloius to deal with AP burst. AD get to build Steraks (poor choice) to deal with non-AP burst. Mages are stuck with a singular AP/Armor item that they are almost forced into building every game because its the only item they get. If they use it to soak CC, they aren't using it for damage mit and vice versa.
Again, I'm not saying mages are underpowered or AD is are overpowered, I just feel made to build certain items most games get so much variety in their build choices and Mages almost always build the same items because they are more or less forced into doing so.
Sorc boots is a near must, 15MPen is too good to pass up, only really ever substituted with Lucidity. Rabadons Dickieflap is a huge power spike and unless you do %HP you rely on it for damage. Void Staff is needed unless the enemy team decides to go 5 ADCs Morellos isn't necessary, but realistically one of the only ways to obtain CDR outside of runes. The mana aspect is what really makes it important, without it you will need AA/RoA
IDK, I am only a lowly plat, but it seems like the choices for build path aren't very big, when a build should be changing every game depending on who is fed, and I never feel like I have the option to do that.
