Seeing a lot of Rumbles recently.. Holy fuck flamespitter damage..

Touch My Box··29 votes·2,878 views

Did he get buffed recently?

Never realized just how stupid the damage is for something that can't be interupted.

I don't play melee toplaners, but I feel very very sorry for them.

How do you play around that damage?

We have a saying in World of Warcraft:

Don't stand in the fire.

Xonra3 votes

It is more "Don't stand in the bad"

Jmman3 votes

Are was don't stand in anything glowing on the ground..... and how much longer till Ghost crawler destroys wow.

funny both seems to be true.

Faceroll Tactics3 votes

Healing Rain, Death and Decay, Rune of Power, Wild Growth

There are a ton of good glowing things on the ground

He's a big lane bully that is a pain to deal with for any Melee. He scales decently, I guess. During the mid-lategame, a lot of his power is in his ultimate. If your team manages to avoid the Equalizer damage, his relevance in the teamfight becomes significantly worse.

Ralanr2 votes

Basically this. Build MR if you can't avoid his damage and treat him like most lane bullies.

Malicious Metal6 votes

Morde eats Rumbles for Breakfast.

Joxcab1 votes

If Rumble misses his ultimate in a clustered team fight, he should uninstall.

Sahn Uzal8 votes

... Sure, but the enemy can pop a locket and leave the AoE ASAP to avoid most of his damage.

Joxcab11 votes

Fair enough, but that relies on Locket not having been used for something else first. And the slow is still pretty cancerous.

Faceroll Tactics8 votes

His ultimate is used for closing choke points so the enemy is forced to back up into fiery death.

Rumble excels in jungle teamfights for the same reason Viktor does.

boo9103 votes

I suppose we could say

"lets rumble in the jungle"

Faceroll Tactics2 votes

Hell yeah

Joxcab9 votes

How do we play around that damage? We really can't so we don't bother and build MR and pray.

As a rumble player, it's kinda one of those situations where gotta give it up a bit, rumble pushes in quite fast which allows for ganks I guess?

._.

but then my jungler has to walk into his flames, which has pretty low cd and no mana. I know he can over heat but geez he has to spam to get there

SociopathFriend2 votes

If he's only using his flamespitter sure, but if he uses his shield and harpoons he will overheat really fast. It's fairly easy to do since he's one of the only manaless champions actively punished for spamming too much. He uses 20 heat per ability, 10 for each individual harpoon. A good Rumble can indeed manage his heat well enough to not overheat unless he wants to- but bad ones will overheat. That's when you need to punish him. He doesn't have sustain. He has a weak shield that he cannot use if silenced. He's kinda like Teemo in that regard- you just have to bite the bullet and beat the crap out of him before he can poke you down.

Sion rips him apart, and then Sion gets ripped apart by the adc stacking the armor pen and lethality.

Adapt Evo1 votes

Can confirm, I got destroyed by a Sion in lane by Rumble.

MunchCrunchLunch6 votes

lets see. rumble doesn't lose that many lanes mainly because he got a spammable shield. and no resources. also he has decent base stats and hes fairly tanky because of his build as well. you can't trade with him as melee unless he fucks up. and its not often because his Q cooldown is so damn low.

but what makes him pure bullshit is the fact that hes so good in team fights too. hes one of those champions that basically you have no control on whether he does well or bad. if your team is bad to position poorly in choke. you lose. if they flash out of his ult or stay in open spaces. then you win. sort of like miss fortune you don't really have much to do other than pray to the gods that your team knows how to position.

he isn't unbeatable in lane. you can beat him with few champions. renekton works. fiora sort of works riven works. darius can work. hes meh. strong champion but he doesn't have much outside his ult late game. treat him like a mage juggernaut. has 1 thing going for him. just hope your backline isn't stupid enough to not flash early or position badly.

as for melee tops not many beat him. but hes still beatable. hes very susceptible to ganks. because he always pushes so again you have to depend on your team. this case the jungler. to do the logical thing.

he doesn't have as much kill pressure as quinn or pantheon but hes a better team fighter so i guess thats a reasonable trade. Q damage should be toned down early to allow for some fair interaction in lane other than sitting under tower. or at least his tankiness.

tldr: league as a game is designed for high elo who understand what best to do for the whole team not as a single player.

Nuparu3 votes

Rumble's teamfighting is much worse at the moment because:

  1. Karma exists.
  2. Locket + Redemption makes it very difficult to do significant damage with Flamethrower or The Equalizer.
  3. A lot of magic resist items are built at the moment. (Edge of Night and Maw of Malmortius both ruin his day due to large amounts of MR.)
Critmaster Garen5 votes

rushing item 3211 helps.

but yea. its a pain to deal with. the updated item 1054 should help aswell.

honestly, its one of those situations where item 1001 + 3 item 2003 might be a good idea. helps to move out of the cone quickly and you get a decent amount of sustain.

Sire Hippington4 votes

Either you jump on him and beat the shit out off him as soon as it wears off(well, few champs have enough damage to do that without regretting it a few sec later), or you let him push you in(not that you could prevent that from happening anyway) and hope your Jungler comes around for a rather easy kill(though past 6 you have to be carefull, he can 1vs2 if you give him an opening).

But all in all, rumble is very annoying to lane against, there is nearly no way one can outpush him, he has nearly no downtimes, and he can beat most champs in a straight all-in if they should try to fight him instead of slowly(well, usually rather fast actually) getting roasted. His main weakness is that he automatically pushes and has no hard escape, so he's rather vulnerable to ganks.

Xonra4 votes

You can't play around the damage, but you can play around the ability. As soon as it stops just all in him and he is screwed. Or let him try to bully you, and all in with a full heat bar and he will just silence himself and you win, and likely burn his flash as well.

You can't just run at someone with it up because as soon as it stops you are dead.

Joxcab4 votes

Rumble's abilities work just enough he can spam them all while just barely avoiding full Heat if they know how to play Rumble.

dominusx3 votes

Rengar kill him before he gets 1 cs.

VelvetCrotch1 votes

LUL. new nerfed rengo too?

SH Azykan5 votes

rengar actually historically does well into rumble top, because rumble is very weak to being all in'd which rengar does very very well in top lane

dominusx1 votes

^. Old rengar was just as good into Rumble. Rumble only stomps lanes where the enemy doesnt have a reliable low cd gapcloser. Guess what Rengar has and with no cost.

VelvetCrotch1 votes

good explanation, sir. ty.

Eedat2 votes

I honestly like the idea of Rumble's kit. He only does damage when going offensive and does none while running away. Anyway the trick to beating Rumble is that he is weak to all ins

Joseraph2 votes

You don't play around the damage, rather play around the cooldown of the ability. Build Visage and play safe, Rumble is the guy you don't want to fall behind against, because you can't teleport tank other lanes vs him

AgeOfTheMage2 votes

month or so ago i made a post complaining about this but Im pretty sure it got downvoted, yay me. rumble's damage with the flamespitter is ridiculous, no mana costs, low cd's, he has a shield, a slow, a dot, empowered AA's and so on, no one ever plays him though so thats why he's rarely complained about.

Orangesilk2 votes

He pushes very hard if he harrasses with flamespitter, so you just farm under turret for a while until you have enough MR to just take him.

Yes, and because of his hard pushing, he is very vulnerable to ganks. I remember a game where I was destroying an Ignite Pantheon as Rumble, playing super ballsy because it was a Maater Yi jungle... and I get ganked anyways by level three Master Yi while I'm at Pantheon's turret. Rumble is one of the best targets for ganks you can get.

GGLineaR2 votes

He's got no mobility, and his heat mechanic makes him easily predictable. Someone like Jax, Darius and Olaf can exploit this, and failing that, he is an easy target for ganks.

Play carefully, and keep your jungler around, and Rumble isn't a problem. He's easily the most well balanced manaless champ in the game because of how his heat mechanic works.

Golden Tager X1 votes

We don't, we walk in lane and force him to fight us before he can poke us down. Or at least the champs I play do Jax Darius Olaf etc. Also Galio uses it to heal

48983507DEL11 votes

You gotta make him run away from you. It only works in front of him.

ltmetal1 votes

I strongly suggest making a rune page with flat MR for this matchup. It will make it way easier for you to get your trades up to par, especially if you watch his heat gauge and engage appropriately.

Nuparu3 votes

Just a note on this: Rumble is not weakest when he's about to overheat. Rumble mains who have any idea how to play him will use this to all in you and you will lose if he has flamethrower or harpoon stacks ready when he's overheated.

He is weakest right after he overheats. Then, his skills have significantly less effect (Danger Zone is not on now.) and he won't be able to use his Overheat bonuses. That is when you want to all in and kill him. You need to bait out the Overheat first, then immediately hard engage when it ends or is about to end.

item 3111 item 3156 item 3065 and you are basically done.

Shuriman Curator1 votes

When I go up against I usually go with early health regen. In a lot of matchups I've been having better success with rushing health regen items. Against Ad I usually start with item 1029 and item 1006. With an Ap opponent with sustained damage like rumble I go with item 1054 then build item 3211 and item 3801 helps a lot.

Fondling Gems1 votes

He is meant to be a bit of a lane bully. For all that his flamespitter takes a couple levels before it starts to dish out damage. He also has very clear windows that you can trade with him during and his harass heavily pushes the wave so he is pretty easy to gank.

Personally he is annoying, but rarely fatal. He just wants to get CS and ult in teamfights.

Adriqnohee1 votes

He needs levels and at least half a item to start actually hurting you with his flamesplitter, but by that time you should already have enough money to buy item 3211 and he is no longer a problem, Rumble is very powerful when he is ahead but is very easy to handle when even.

Mighty Mortein1 votes

I've had decent success playing Vlad into a rumble. Just rush Spirit Visage and you'll be fine (hopefully).

Spoofghoul1 votes

just gank his ass

if he uses flamethrower he pushes and overextends

rumble can't help but over extend hes free sack of gold if you have a competent jungler

the only difference is coordinated play where a team can inform the rumble of the whereabouts of the enemy jungler or incoming midlane roams

in yoloq or norms this doesn't happen so he is pretty much a free sack of gold
