Theory Time: The Core Issue with Zed

So, there are a lot of theories as to why zed is currently despised by a large portion of the community. At first, I assumed it was Zed's insane safety due to his shadows. (a theory I still cling to) But today, I present you with a new theory as to why zed can feel so overbearing:

The fact that he scales with AD.

Yup, that's it. I'm willing to bet that if zed scaled with AP instead of AD, he would be nowhere near as overbearing as he is now. He'd still have his insane mobility and playmaking tools as well as good poke and all in dmg. But his AA's would no longer hit like a truck, and he will no longer have free sustain. This change would minimize his split pushing power and force zed to rethink 1v3 or 1v4'ing the enemy team due to actually having to rely on just his spells instead of his AA's as well as his spells.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Anyone think this theory has some validity to it? Also, please keep it polite, this is not a zed hate thread.

I think the core issue with Zed is how safe his play patterns are. Part of that safety is the lifesteal you get from AD items. There is also his manaless poke. I think the biggest thing is the level of safety his shadows provide -- a Zed "all-in" is anything but; he is always able to jump to safety on a moment's notice, and Zed is a super hard champion to gank because he's so slippery.

  • sustain. Not free. Everything comes at a cost.

Otherwise... You are probably right, but AP doesn't suit Zed as a character at all. There is also the issue that his skills' damage would have to be increased drastically.

Actually, this sounds not bad. If other champs can do magic damage based on AD scaling, Zed can deal physical damage with AP scaling. It would solve his insane pushing power as well.
