Why are people pure Maging Neeko? I'm adcing her o.O

Just want some opinions. I'm playing Neeko adc on both my D II and my mud pit smurf. I'm finding it fun (and competitive) as hell.

So...... why did people decide she's a mid? And why full typical mage build?

Some reasons I question this:

  1. Her Q doesn't readily reset in lane unless you are really geared on AP. Her kit in this case is pretty analog. Wait for low HP minions, possibly lose some CS, and rarely get a poke in.

  2. W is heavily underrated. Its damage scales better than any other part of her kit and it has no limitation of "3 hits to ONE TARGET." You can proc it by last hitting 3 targets, or by dueling, or by switch ups....

  3. Pure AP generally doesn't have the move speed to effectively use her R. You either need to go Move speed AP, which will die pretty fast.... or..... you can go On Hit, which has a HUGE assortment of movement speed items.

  4. Her kit FAR more synergizes with CCing an on hit strategy than trying to long range nuke or short range nuke. For example, E > Auto > Q > Auto Auto Auto > R will almost guarantee kills, whereas W > R will not.

I'm not saying there's not many ways to play the same champ. I'm saying...... She probably has the best APC kit in the game behind Kai Sa right now.

P.S. On hit makes her a devastating turret killer. And unlike Tryndamere or Yorick..... Neeko can get away....

So what gives? Anyone else trying it? Have opinions on the matter?

Probably has something to do with the 920915091209502050 AP scaling on her ult, probablyz

In all seriousness I feel like you are trolling if you go on hit, but maybe I am wrong. Just seems like Twisted Fate ADC to me tho.

The difference between a TF adc and Neeko is..... Neeko doesn't actually have to shuffle through a visible skill and tell her opponent what exactly she's using to stun/slow. That causes delays on TF that are abuseable. TF also doesn't have an on board move speed in his kit (albiet his ult).

She plays FAR MORE LIKE KAI SA. A Kai Sa with a Root, Clones, the ability to push a lane as someone else (People aren't expecting Nautilus to shred a turret in 5 seconds), and an aoe stun if she needs to set a stage.....

The last point is a gargantuan one: Neeko's W shreds turrets. If you have 2.0+ attack speed..... she just ..... makes it so that if she can push a turret, the turret is gone faster than any other champion other than maybe a Diana who procs her passive hits. And Neeko can look like someone else while doing it, which is insanely intimidating.

P.S. 1.3 AP scaling on her ult isn't impressive when you maybe get to get in a situation to use it all of 3 times per game. Which is realistically what happens, because even if you disguise as some melee, people do read what you do. If all you're doing is auto attacking, and no skills as a melee in a big fight.... they know you're Neeko. That means they aren't going to let you do it. And your only move speed buff is also your only clone ability, so you make it REALLY easy to see that you're trying to go in for an R.

In contrary, a Triforce/ on hit Neeko can actually move speed buff herself into position, and use that ult utilitarianly about 8-9 times a game.

I'm so glad you mentioned Diana for that :) Give me a Deathcap, Lich, and Nashors and I can 3-shot towers. :) I might have to try On hit Neeko sometime though lol.

D2? Huh?

Anyway, she has all AP scalings so building her AP on-hit would make far more sense anyway.

There are many champs who are full AD or AP scaling but don't actually build it entirely. And if I recall, Kaisa Kaisa Kaisa Kayle Kayle Kayle Kennen Kennen Kennen

I'm not saying I build her Crit. I'm saying, I focus Move speed/ Attack speed.

So, for example, my last game was item 3078 item 3006 item 3153 item 3124 and I was building into item 3115 , and possible either a item 3905 or a item 2065

But some of my games are Lich Bane based, or have an Abyssal Mask, and I could use item 3148 .

Here's what I built when I initially got to play Neeko and tried her in the Jungle: item 1414 item 3089 item 3040 item 3115 item 3124 , and just for fun I added a item 3078 instead of boots to see what the output could be.

What I found was that this build was absolutely monstrous. The on hit procs were literally doing 420 AD hits with a 860 or so damage AP damage proc, while the ult was still doing some 1350 damage, and the Guinsoo's/Attack speed was just shotgunning attacks, so the build literally could kill Baron in about 30 seconds, or kill a turret in about 5 seconds.

The reason I'm not pushing that build in ranked is obvious: the cost/time it takes to build it isn't the best for real game pacing.

So.... I started focusing on the major functions of it:

  1. item 3078 , while not AP, still offers sizeable attack speed, Phage movement boost, a base % move speed boost, and 20% CDR, which means very early item access and abuse of her W's damage bonus, AND relative deprivation of any chase team's opportunities to kill Neeko (If you Triforce, and are running.... she can actually escape 90% of all early game chases, simply by hitting E and Wing toward them while running away from them..... can block line of sight ults like Fizz's, and just outrun their movement)

  2. item 3124 doesn't seem like it's a strong Neeko item, but it actually is because it does the same thing it does for Vayne, Kai Sa, or Yi: It doubles the frequency of the procs, all while ramping up your attack speed, and making the procs penetrate both on Magic AND Physical portions, so the other team cannot build against your damage.

  3. item 3115 ofc works with Guinsoo's, and it's just an all around beefy on hit tool that has 20% CDR and AP.

Anything else I'm building is mostly situational.

The item 3153 = tank games.

The item 3001 was in a game where my team pretty much int fed an Orianna, and I was the only person who could even get close to Orianna to kill her, and even that was risky.

Bottom line is...... AP alone doesn't offer enough ATTACK SPEED to really abuse it. And if you build just a item 3115 item 3124 , and the rest high powered AP, the result is you're too squishy to reliably auto attack. So..... I'm trying to find a happy medium.

Literally every game I have tried this I have been the top or top 2 damage. It's not troll on that end. It also usually comes with a strong KDA, the most CC, no mana problems, pretty safe csing, etc, so there's definitely something to it.

I'm sure it works but none of her math plays out to be an AA steroid or etc. You can't argue against the math.

Look up my game history on her on this account. Nearly every single game I am top damage, good KDA, and usually the highest damage to turrets......

You're talking to someone that works with Data all day.

To be blunt, your one anecdotal case means nothing. My Master's ELO friend can go on his smurf and play Karthus ADC and probably get a 70%+ WR. Does that mean Karthus is a really good ADC?

No, certainly not without more information.
