"The champion with Cripple will invalidate Riven"

Penta Penguin··4 votes·663 views

How can you say this when it's a weaker form of CC than currently in the game like Root, Stuns, Suppression, etc? There are so many ways to lock down mobile champions, but not often do you see a pick 'invalidated' just because one of your picks has CC. There are top laners like Renekton, Malphite, Darius etc. with CC to lock her down or other mobile champs, and nobody on the balance team thinks we need to remove Knockups, Stuns, Displacement?

I don't understand the concern here

What do you mean by the champion with Cripple? Lee Sin?

The theorized Cripple mechanic that will prevent a target from using anything with extra mobility (Flash, Riven Q, maybe Lee Sin 2nd Q, etc.)

thats kidof cool. but as far as the game progressed on mobility creep, we need an item with that and not a single champion who just gets banned when the enemy team wants to play 5 mobile champions.

What form of CC is Cripple? Is that different from slow?

Cripple is supposed to immobilize all sorts of mobility spells & abilities (you cannot flash or Riven Q) but you can use all other spells & abilities.

Something like selective silence.

(this idea came when Boards were full of Katarina/Lb hate)

I think the problem is that with cripple being useless or ignorable to a lot of the roster, it'll have to be very strong against the people it works against to actually be satisfying/worth using, and that's when you start getting into hard counter problems. A 3 second cripple against Elise is quite weak, it just means no execute for a while. Very weak form of CC against her, even though she has two mobility spells. But the same thing against Riven would be complete death. Here you have a mechanic that's only really powerful against like 10 champions, but is ridiculously strong against them.

How is it stronger than the CC already in the game

Did you actually read my post or just see someone disagreeing with you and assume I'm calling it too strong? I literally said in my post that it'd be a very weak type of crowd control against most champions, which is exactly why it's a hard mechanic to balance. Cripple stops you doing so few things that it varies between useless, weak and very strong based on which champion you're using it on.

It's so niche that you'll need to make it very easy to apply in comparison to other crowd control, or you'll need to make it last much longer than most crowd control, and even then there's still a ton of champions it's pointless to use on. You can make the cripple last 3 seconds and it's still much weaker against Syndra than a 1 second snare. Put that 3 second cripple on Riven and she is hit ridiculously hard.

tell that to 3-3.5 second stuns and roots still cant calm riven down

Wouldn't be surprised if cripple was added to the kits of some existing champs, but didn't someone say cripple might be added to exhaust at some point?

Adding it to a Champion that isn't strong atm (Karma (E), Nocturne (W)) or to a item would be a good idea.

Penta Penguin1 votes

You mean Karma W? I don't think so because mobility is part of the intended way to escape Karma's chain. And her reward for it is a full-on stun

Because cripple is weaker overall so it's going to be easier to apply or last longer.
