"We now intend to rebuild the item set creator tool"

This is important, don't let this change go uncelebrated guys. I was really pissed off when they said they weren't doing Item Set again, gave up on clunky 3rd Parties that couldn't match the integration and ease of use

Don't forget Replays Don't forget Voice Coms* Don't forget Item Sets And don't forget that Riot DOES listen and change their minds to suit their players

Thank you Mark Hamil and the rest at Riot for listening and compromising

*Riot said people may as well use 3rd Party for voice comms, but they said the same thing about Item Sets, and a lot more people use Voice Coms. It can very well happen these days

Honestly even if people didn't use items sets it's nice to be able to look at the items in the game without having to go to this website or some 3rd party website...

Hahahahyena2 votes

when i first played this game a while back thats what i thought the item sets were for... i didnt realize it actually effected the shop back then

Warlord Zudane1 votes

I used it to analyze potential builds when I was starting. It makes things so much easier to be able to use a shop-like system to look through items and visualize what you want to build, how to order it and know exactly what each item does.

Leon Etoile1 votes

I'll be honest. Preplanned builds are bad. You need to understand the items and purchase accordingly to how the game is going. I used them when I started and it become a hindrance.

Item sets are a good tool to learn items though or separate items for ease of purchase. Like when they reworked AP items last year; made a section with just them in it so I didn't miss or forget them.

Like I'm constantly building liandry's on Ziggs to counter all the dive potential from all the melee and tanks in play atm. It's not an item you'll see recommended on him though. Into certain comps though, it destroys the enemies before they can even get engaged.

I mean yeah, thats great that item sets will be back, but I'm not going to sing praise upon Riot when they shouldn't have ever been removed in the first place.

Yes, they should have been removed, because it would be impossible not to remove them while making a new client. The Beta Client is built on Chromium so they cannot just port features from the Legacy Client (Adobe AIR) to it. They need to remake all of them.

Basically, everything was "removed"; it's just that most things were added back quickly. Riot did not add Item Sets back because they thought that not enough people used them to justify the workload, which made many players (including me) unhappy. Luckily, they're adding them back now thanks to complaints from the community.

Not sure but when you remake something you tend to put it all back together before putting it back so by not putting everything back before they released the new client they temporarily removed it

Please, no in-game voice coms. I don't need to hear a 13 year old brat screaming in my ears for 20 minutes.

Not to mention it will be harder for Riot to detect toxic behavior.

Almighty.

Faceroll Tactics5 votes

If that bothers you, you can mute them. Voice comes if used to win (which 99% of people want to do is win) increase the quality of matches significantly.

Just because one Ritoer listened, does not mean the rest will. I have a newfound respect for Mark Hamil, even though I don't know his Riot handle, but I still don't trust Meddler, Jag or Fearless. They've lied to and disrespected the community far too many times.

"Trust is easily broken, but it takes time to build."

Penta Penguin3 votes

I think his handle is Riot_Luke

Dynamiku Entry1 votes

Funny you say that, because Marc Merrill was using a banned player (personal friend of his) to boost his account, which 2 years later he turns around and fines some LCS team for doing the same thing. How easily people misplace their trust.

Meritas4 votes

"Boost", he was using him to to chill and play a duo game. Tryndamere can literally give himself any amount of MMR/LP or even promote himself to whichever division.

TurquoiseYoshi7 votes

Voice comms don't really need to be part of the game, imo. That is and has been far more of a debate, as it's less of a "it either helps or doesn't affect people" that the other issues were/are and becomes more of a "do we really think that the community can use this responsibly?".

tutorial on how to use the shop:

1- click the recommended items page on the left 2- click whatever item has the component you want on the left (ex: you want boots, you click the ionian boots) 3- now look at the right page of the shop, the selected item shows all the components and upgrades related to said item 4- buy boots of choices

5- repeat for every single item in the game 6- do the above in 2-3 seconds or 2-3 clicks every time you recall

(this assumes you know what components build into what item of course)

BLACK REALM GOD2 votes

i have my items set to grid icons instead of long windowed lists. i press P then click show all then click whatever is cheap enough for me to buy on the right. if i can afford multiple items i click a specific category and repeat the process until im out of gold.

it helps if you know the base stat items the tier 2 base stat items the tier 3 base stat items at a glance

tier 1 item 1052 item 1001 item 1051 item 1029 item 1042 item 1004 item 1036 item 1033 item 1006item 1028 item 1027

tier 2 item 1018 item 1037 item 1026

tier 3 item 1038 item 1058

these items used to be tier 2 but have been changed to be a linked version of the tier 1 items. basically they're not as important to remember because you'd still need a tier 1 item 1031 item 1057item 1011 item 1043

also there are the strategic items that can be helpful to remember

item 3301 item 3303 item 3302 item 1083 item 1041 item 1055 item 1039 item 1056 item 1082 item 1054 item 2031 item 2055 item 3184 item 2051 item 3112 -aram only

cocacolalips4 votes

not saying it's wrong, simply pointing out you can buy all the items in the game from riot recommended items pages usually in a couple clicks (or at least as many clicks as what ppl suggest with their personal item sets page)

there are a couple exceptions where your method or other personal item sets would be better, like a few recommended items pages lack boots for example haha, so you have to dig them on the -show all item available- page, and some other exceptions where you play a champion in a way that isn't intended, like AP ashe.

SzGamer2271 votes

Or you could make an item set and pick up every item you use in 1 click or 1 second. :P

cocacolalips1 votes

but then you are back to the default -all items available- page style that includes all components + common and situational items fully completed and you spend 5+ seconds scrolling up and down through the giant list every time

I know that's what I did at first ;o like everyone else I used the item sets before realizing it was not useful and I was wasting my time

SzGamer2271 votes

laughs in actually knowing how to use Item Sets effectively

Nothing about putting the 20 or so items you use most on one page makes any other aspect of using the shop any slower, all it does is puts 99% of the items you will buy in easy reach of your cursor. It sounds like you just need to git gud ;O

cocacolalips1 votes

K,

if you want to buy everything you could want in one single click only on akali for example your item set would need (I just checked in game to be sure + I have 100K mastery on akali):

~ 30 components or tier 1 items (this includes potions, trinkets, elixirs and starting items that don't upgrade into anything

~ 35 tier 2 items (stuff that uses 1 component or more but are not final items)

~ 35 final items (this includes all boots 2)

That's ~100 items on your item page. That's maybe twice or three times the shop user interface, you are not only going to scroll up and down a lot, but even locating the right item on the list is going to take several seconds every time. You aren't gaining any time, and you also had to make the page in the first place, and you are doing it for all the champions you own.

If you are only adding the final items, then you have to use the right page of the shop like I explained above to buy components and tier 2 items from those final items, thus clicking just as much as you would without it.

SzGamer2271 votes

You don't need to put components in your item set lmao

I think we're both understating the number of clicks required to do these things.

{quoted}

1- click the recommended items page on the left 2- click whatever item has the component you want on the left (ex: you want boots, you click the ionian boots) 3- now look at the right page of the shop, the selected item shows all the components and upgrades related to said item 4- buy boots of choices

Using this way, you must CLICK (1) on a final item that has your desired component, CLICK (2) on the desired component, CLICK (3) on the item that the component builds into (since you're not going to leave an incomplete item in your build, which means you're going to have to do this eventually), and then sometimes CLICK (4) on a different component for that item (if I click on Black Cleaver to click on Kindlegem to get to Spirit Visage to buy a Spectre's Cowl, for example, because I'm building Spirit Visage and I need the Magic Resist Component).

That's 3-4 clicks to buy your first component, one click to buy further components for the same item or complete the item, and 3-4 additional clicks every time you switch which item you're building. If you buy a component for an item (3 clicks), buy Boots of Speed (2 clicks), buy another component to your item (3 clicks), complete your item (1 click), then buy tier 2 Boots of your choice (3 clicks) that's 12 clicks.

Using an item set where you have all your final items, you CLICK (1) on the final item you are building and then CLICK (2) on the component you want to buy.

That's 2 clicks to buy your first component, one click to buy further components for the same item or complete the item, and 2 additional clicks every time you switch which item you're building. If you buy a component for an item (2 clicks), buy Boots of Speed (2 clicks), buy another component for your item (2 clicks), then complete the item (1 click), then buy tier 2 Boots of your choice (1 click because it's a final item in your item set), that's 8 clicks.

You shave off 33% of the time it takes to buy your first item and tier 2 Boots by having an item set prepared.

cocacolalips1 votes

you can click an item you already have in your inventory, it will show all the upgrades/components on the right page of the screen, you don't have to repeat everything every time.

FiddlesOnTheRoof1 votes

My thought. I used it for like my first 6 months. Itemizing isn't hard. Not a fan of riot implementing crutches like this.

SzGamer22726 votes

It's not a crutch. It's convenient.

You'd have to be braindead to create an item set with one build and follow it to the letter every game. Not even lazy, because a lazy person wouldn't go through the trouble of making an item set in the first place. You can incorporate forward thinking when you're making an item set without any trouble, and nothing stops you from building items that aren't in your set anyways.

mrgiraffeweevil8 votes

Item sets are for people who don't want to have to search for every item they think of buying when they could just have them be on their front shop page, and I for one am happy they're coming back

Xion Reaper3 votes

When I make Item sets, Ill put items in that I would use in any game scenario. Udyr for example I would put any jg items I use in one category (red smite/ blue smite with warriors/bloodrazor/cinderhulk) and other categories like MR, Armor, Health, AD, AP etc. It saved a lot of time I would normally spend in shop searching for what I need and would sometimes take up ~10 seconds. Having the item sets made it more visually easy for me to find what I need, therefore less shop downtime. Also I kinda have this mistake of buying a Dorans blade when playing Yasuo jungle sometimes which is why I'm happy that Riot is bringing it back.(but i think that might just be me being boosted) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Sorry, after DQ i am NEVER doing this.

Elikain1 votes

DQ couldn't be reverted mid-season after it came out. So that meant it had to stick around to the end, where Riot did bring it back for the next season. And they learned from their mistake. What's sad is that all it took for you was that one mistake and now you're cynical when it comes to everything...

Want a single piece of evidence that they changed their ways? Support Nunu case that branched from Support Singed case, where they redone the policy regarding those wacky, edge cases that were resulting in unfair two week suspensions. And that was done in about a month after the thread on the boards popped up i believe?

Dextix LT3 votes

Let's see. DQ could not be reverted, but SQ could have been brought back, LIKE IT WAS PROMISED!

DQ in itself is ot the problem (Although it was total shit). The problem was that we have been promised SQ over and over and over and over again, we were told its coming over and over and over again, until in the end we got NOTHING. IT was all a big lie.

The problem was how they dealt with that bullshit, and after THAT disaster, i am faaaaar from trusting ANY "promise" Riot EVER makes.

Elikain1 votes

We weren't being told that it was coming over and over. We were told at first that it would come and then it didn't. And it didn't because it couldn't be done. Riot didn't tell people up front that, so people thought even months after that there was still hope. They should've just ripped off the band-aid and told people the truth. But they didn't.

Past is the past. They screwed up and they've made up for that. One bad season shouldn't sour your milk for years. You're acting like Riot was married to you and you caught them cheating. Learn to let go.

Since that point on, they've upped their communication and transparency. That goes a long way, knowing what they are thinking about, what are their plans for the future and helps us avoid these "instructions not clear" situations.

Dextix LT3 votes

You are so down on Riots Dick you dont even remember what happened right?

We were told that DQ was coming 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, 1 occasion BEFORE DQ came, 2 AFTER DQ came. And it COULD be done, it seems that you have never studied programming. They could have just copy pasted the old information in and thats IT. Because they already had the code for SQ, and it needed no changes. Riot told us UP FRONT that sq WILL COME BACK, 3 SEPARATE TIMES. They did not, they actively LIED that it was coming when they were not even WORKING ON IT. Then they tried to push DQ so hard they lied even more, misleading statistics, misleading statements, all on purpose.

Past is not the fucking past, they have NOT made up for that (FINALLY putting in features after 5 years of them BEING ASKED FOR is not making up for ANYTHING). It is not one bad season, it is Riot ACTIVELY LYING to protect a shitty system that EVERYONE TOLD THEM was shitty.

They have NOT upped communications OR transparency, Forums are still a wasteland and those "articles" some of the designers write are nothing more than glorified diaries. And that is not even RELATED.

DQ was not an "instructions not clear" situation, it was a RIOT is actively LYING situation.
