Then: Woah, a Highly Mobile Champion - That's A Unique Strength
Now: Not having mobility is considered a weakness.
But, don't worry, it's not League of Mobility yet.

We all have Lee Sin and CertainlyToxic to thank for this _revolutionary _ idea,
clearly.
Advantages with tradeoffs, this is game balance and design 101. At least Riot used to somewhat get it but now they have gone complete ape for whatever reason.
Well see, Ekko has this tradeoff where he... um...
Well he has this big weakness where... where... er.
OOH OOOOOH!!! ME!! MEEEEEE!!! He's melee so it's hard for him to deal with Kalista! Yeah! Riot: That's why he needs to have an AoE stun, a 70% slow passive, 70% bonus movespeed passive, bonus % damage, 2 gap-closers, and an escape tool.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
...he has one gap-closer. Unless we're counting his E as two separate abilities? Should we complain about the four gapclosers and escapes on Leblanc and Riven? That's twice as many as two!
His E has two parts, the dash and the blink. therefore, it counts as 2. LeBlanc (I do not say she isn't a problem) has 2 gapclosers- her W and her ult distortion (if she chooses to use it). going back to it doesnt close a gap between you and the enemy unless you are pretty stupid. Riven has a fuckton of mobility, and yes, that does mean 4 gapclosers.
Kha'zix has a longer range gapcloser that resets on kill, plus 3-4 slows in a fight and 2-3 more gapclosers. Zed has two gapclosers, easily becoming 3 or more in a fight if he plays well. Fizz has 'three' gap closers(are we counting both activations of E or what) on a low cooldown. Katarina has an instant blink resetting after every kill, master yi has that + untargetability and massive movement speed, Talon has two gap closers, Ahri has four gap closers(counting Q, because of it's large decaying movement speed boost), Fiora has 3 + a large movement speed boost, Nocturne has two(and one is semi-global), Nidalee has two because of the reset on Pounce, Lee Sin has two(ward hops make W a gapcloser), Kassadin has a gap closer on a 2 second cooldown, Xin has two(because of the CDR on his Q), Vi has two.
Ekko is practically immobile compared to a lot of other assassins.
Not to mention he's much better at going in than out.
Really? I guess I'll just press R to get out, heal, and deal tons of damage!
If you're doing damage with R you're not "getting out". He can either deal with having to commit a bit harder than other assassins or sacrifice his largest damage tool to escape. I know which one I'd rather do, personally.

Evolved R --> 1st time: Go out, heal 2nd time: Go in and deal damage 3rd and last activation: Go back out
Haha, Kha'zikko would be pretty OP.
I don't get why his passive slows people, he already has 2 active slows.
Well see, Ekko has this tradeoff where he... um...

His stun isn't instant! I found his weakness, if you flash through his stun you can then kill him... oh wait... he has a double dash that can go through walls... crap...
Single dash unless he has a target, everything he does is telegraphed and predictable. It's Sion balance, assassin style.
to be fair, they actually release champions intentionally overdone initially so they can more easily make the needed tweaks. so yeah he needs a nerf, but that's intentional (and the case with pretty much every champ ever)
Just like
!
Or an older, even more extreme example,
! Who didn't want to play as release Quinn? She was the best.
And by "best" I of course mean "jesus christ this is awful."

I have never seen that version of CertainlyT's name. and it fits him rather well...
I always wondered what the "T" stood for. I just kinda assumed it was for his name. Though I agree, this seems equally viable [these days].
It stands for TrueDamage iirc.
Another new release... And old, immobile champions with actual trade-offs become more obsolete.
Ahem............
..........and several more.
I have no idea what you're talking about.
You realize two of those have had complete reworks, one just two patches ago. Cass is basically only a year old. Cho isn't that great. He's a tanky mid and you bring him for CC and a front line. His scaling is pretty decent but he's not a power house. He carries by simply by being a big body that protects an ADC but he's not that great. Morde craps on him, Darius dunks him and Teemo spits on him. So honestly you don't know what you're talking about.
Teemo really doesn't give me trouble when I play Cho. Just saying.
No one gives Cho any trouble in lane, his passive plus his silence basically means you can say "piss off" to your opponent and just AFK farm the entire laning phase.
What kind of
says "piss off"? It's more like ahem "I beg your parden, Riven, but would you kindly step out of our lane for a moment? I simply wish to utilize my passive on these minions so you and I can both practice fisticuffs on each other whilst each sporting a fair amount of health. Have a jolly good day, ma'am!"
Indeed, good sir. Cho is too much of a gentleman to stoop so low. Why, I remember in my last game as Cho I simply told the enemy Gangplank that if he wanted to be rude and eat his [shudders] oranges, he would have to do it in his base and not in the lane I so graciously shared with him. He complied, though rather unwillingly, and we all had a highly entertaining game. I mean, really... Why eat oranges when there are so many delectable minions, monsters, and champions in this game. Eating citrus seems like such a waste.
And to the person a few comments up, Cho'Gath greatly enjoys laning against a Teemo. Well, as much as anyone can enjoy being in such close proximity to an actual daemon from the deepest pits of Tartarus... However, Cho'Gath does a marvelous job at it. And come level 6, Teemo is perfect for a bite-size morsel that the Gentleman of the Void can snack on whenever he desires.
And yet, people continually beg for nerfs to Cho'Gath.
Maybe it's because if you get anywhere near him, he kills you.
That's my point. Mobility =/= power. Cho'Gath is Arguably the least mobile guy in the game (one of them at least), yet is amazingly powerful.

Because he's durable as hell and has very strong CC.
Exactly. Mobility is but one form of power. Other forms of power are equally valid. Cho'Gath is not underpowered simply because he is immobile. And very mobile champions are not overpowered simply because they are mobile.
I agree with you totally that mobility is just one form of power. HOWEVER, there are so many champions that have that mobility plus all the things the non mobile champs have. Mobility is safety, plain and simple. When you combine that mobility with high damage, you get a champion that is low risk/high reward and will ALWAYS be OP. It isn't hard to understand. LB is the poster child for this.
No! Guys! This fish is onto something.
If we just overload every immobile champ's damage, tankiness, and CC to the point of absurdity then we will finally have a balanced game.
Thank god for you Laughing Fish! Where would we be without your extreme examples to show the strengths of all immobile champs even when almost all others don't have it?
As if this hasn't been going on since day one.
Look at
. They gave him the fastest non-blink dash in the game.
Granted, it has a 5 year cooldown and costs 70% of his mana. But counterplay!
Edit: This is 100% sarcasm, btw. Malphite scores a solid 3/10 on the mobility meter.
MEANWHILE
_hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop _
but "MUH COUNTERPLAY"
dash dash dash dash dash dash dash dash
at least Yasuo's dash has a cooldown per target
blink blink blink blink blink blink blink
YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME. -Riftlimp-
-Casually walks to catch back up- Uh,...
...Can you wait like six seconds?
...Sure.
YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME NOW, SUCKER!! MUHWAHAHA-Wait can you hang out for like 80 seconds while my mana recharges?
Favoritism. Hitting League in games near you.
"riftlimp" this is my new favorite term.
confirmed to blink more then
does
He only has one eye, so that makes sense.
Caw caw caw caw caw caw caw caw
Oh.. hrm.. sorry guys I just got caught up in the moment. I don't think I'm supposed to be here.
{{summoner:2}} please bring
back into the meta
Isn't he? He's sorta like a less mobile Cassiopeia that probably won't need to build defensive items other than Zhonyas and can crowd control better.
Not having mobility has always been a weakness.
Having mobility used to be a strength. Ashe was the original reason melees were becoming overloaded. They lacked the mobility to stick to an ADC with a permaslow.
Now almost every champion HAS a gapcloser AND CC. It's considered a legitimate weakness to not have it anymore. That's mobility creep, and it's still happening now.
It's always been a legitimate weakness not to have mobility. Just like it's a legitimate weakness not to have a fuckton of damage. There are things called trade offs dude
I don't think you understand. The NORM used to be less mobile champions, and therefore having mobility was considered a fairly unique strength. NOW being immobile is a weakness, because having innate mobility is the norm.
