30 minutes and six dodged lobbies later, I finally get into a game.

When is auto-fill and it's overwhelmingly negative impact on game quality going to be addressed?

At the very least, add an 'I don't want to be auto-filled in exchange for possibly longer queue times' option to normals. The vast majority of players, especially around Diamond MMR, would rather take the 5 minute dodge than play their filled role for the next 20-40 minutes, wasting everyone's time.

There's a really good alternative to autofill I've posted many times so I might as well try again. Here it is:

Players can rank each position by preference. The client remembers your preferences so you don't have to do it every time you queue. The matchmaker will try to give you positions according to your preference so if you can't get #1 or #2 you'll probably get #3.

For example I would go 1 Mid 2 Support 3 Top 4 ADC 5 Jungle

I'm horrible at Jungle but with this system I doubt I'd ever have to do it. There are 4 other positions the system knows to prioritize over it and I'm fine with those 4 positions.

But...my preferences change. Sometimes I feel like playing Top, sometimes Support or Mid.

You do it if you want to change what you used last game. Just like now if you hit "play again" and want to change your roles you have to change them because the last ones are recorded there. 5 clicks instead of 2 but it doesn't seem the end of the world to me

True, but the way it was phrased made me think it was a profile tab thing. Like item sets or runes. And that would be a hassle.

What's funny to me is the catch-22 it presents. The community hates autofill, but i have been in dozens of lobbies where someone mentions they are autofilled top or jungle and no one offers to step up and switch or help or anything.

Those same people bitch about autofill but don't offer to swap out because they feel they shouldn't have to "give up their lane" to compensate for Riot's system.

I fail to see why both cannot exist. I do not understand why there can't be a check that enables autofill and another one that does not.

Because it's a violent downhill. People who choose to disable autofill, cause those who didn't disable it to get autofilled more. Being autofilled more causes frustration and results in those who don't disable autofill to get their main roles less often.

This results in more and more people disabling autofill because they're getting autofilled more, causing those who don't disable it to get autofilled more-- and the circle continues.

I completely agree. For me, I'd probably say Top/Mid/Support (based on what I wanna play), Jungle, ADC. I'm not a good Jungler, but I can survive; autofill me as ADC though, well that game is already lost. Sometimes I wanna play a solo lane, but if you gotta autofill me put me in Support please.

Your MMR is too low to experience this. Don't presume that your experience at an MMR with 100x more players is the same as mine at Diamond.

I re-queued immediately after this game, and I just had my 5th dodged lobby, 18 minutes since. Two of them were dodged early, the other three were dodged just as the game was going to start, because they wanted someone else to dodge.

Also, you didn't think this out at all. If the 9 people are put in a game with someone who doesn't want to play an auto-filled role, they're just going to dodge, making those 9 players wait even longer than if they had put in a player who doesn't mind being auto-filled.

Players being auto-filled does not equate to faster games when the players being auto-filled are just going to dodge.

I have to agree with you on this. This has always been one of my main issues with the autofill system and it is directly opposed to the system's intended purpose.

While it would be nice if the system attempted to match autofilled players into the same role, I'm not even going to begin hoping for that.

it happens lol. For some reason normal games are 10x worse than ranked games are when it comes to dodges. Even in gold/high silver MMR, I still get queues up to 15+ minutes long because people don't get the roles that they want.

Twice as long queue times with a much smaller % of the playerbase is totally understandable.

have you ever tried to play ARAM ? Lol it's basically the same, can't have a single game without at least 2 dodges, sometimes it takes up to 10minutes to finally start a game

Check my match history. Basically all I've been playing lately is ARAM, and I'm not getting any dodges. Maybe 1, but even that I'm not sure.

You think the other 4 people this guy would be paired up with want an autofilled teammate with next to no experience in their filled role? Autofill is a joke system that just wastes MORE time than simply waiting ever would because people are constantly getting shoved into positions they have no experience or want in playing and as such they dodge out of the lobby because they'd rather spend more time waiting than getting forced into a miserable experience.

fuck autofill-- that shit makes it an autolose in rank sometimes. jg and adc need to never be autofilled. Actual thought: remove autofill from Plat+ games. We really wouldnt mind. Someone needs to make a post on this.

Autofill is mandatory. The game physically cannot exist with its current queue system without it.

You have the choice of what we had before, which is essentially a first pick first served style of who gets what role..... or a small chance to get autofilled every so many games.
