Would an actual pet champion work?

We already have multiple champions with pets, but none of them really has a pet as an innate part of their kit.

I'm talking more about controllable pets like Tibbers and Daisy, but used as a baseline ability instead of a powerful ult. Others have minions in their kits, but they're mostly uncontrollable (although some can be directed)

I feel like League could use such a champion, but few issues make me wonder if it would be viable, or at the very least, very hard to implement.

-Pets can interact with skillshots, so the champion's defense must suffer to compensate.

-Should the pet be fast enough to be able to dodge skillshots by redirecting it? Or slower and tankier?

-A pet that scales with the champion's speed would make it feel like you control the movement of two champions, and allow more display of mastery over the champion. But a fast pet would be really oppressive (much like old Yorick) so maybe the pet needs to be really slow early and become faster with points in an ability. Or maybe preserve the pet's speed but make it easy to trade with early.

-If abilities are actualy cast from the pet, what happens when the pet is dead? The champion needs a way to contribute on it's own at least a little, much like unmounted Kled.

-Shared health could be one way to make the pet viable, much like Soraka trade her own health to heal allies. Attacking and killing the pet would leave the controller low on hp and vulnerable. Resummoning the pet could cost hp.

-etc??? waiting for more people to point out some interesting point as to why it can't, or would be hard to make it work, or just ideas on how it could work.

Pet class/champions are a classic in many games designs, and i feel like it would be really fun to have an actual champion working like this. Even if a few champions have pets, none of their kits really exploit the pet theme to it's full potential.

There are some champions that use other units, like Heimer, Zyra, Malz, Azir (?), Elise, and Yorick. Maokai can throw his fetuses around, but they're really just traps, not actual pets. Ori also has a sort of "pet" mechanism with her abilities revolving around her ball, but I guess that it isn't what you're looking for.

Also Kindred has a pet doggo.

Kindred doesn't have a pet doggo, you fool! Kindred is a doggo and a sheep!

As a mastery 8 Kindred main diamond 2 since season one, you, sir, have triggered me beyond what can possibly be comprehended!!

If you generalize the term pet, Azir and Lulu and Heimerdinger fit in this concept because they make use of a second element which requires micro'managing to effectively make use of. One of the problems on LoL especially atm is the concept of snowballing and champions with more 'complex' builds are likely being thrown out of the window currently which makes sense with Camille, Ivern and why likely Kled and Taliyah aren't seeing as much gameplay since unless a champion is ridiculously strong, complexity is kind of being thrown in the dumpster by players for more simple 'easy input and high damage blasting champions'(which if you say yasuo ain't simple, he already gets some super easy itemizations between double crit and no mana bar and Q getting CDR via attack speed 'total' currently so that makes him ridiculously easier to 'manage' on ends).

Until Riot decides to give the parent company they are owned by a proper middle finger and shake off the 'idea' of making LoL matches have the ability to be wrapped up very fast but not provide us with 10 ban list or the early surrender in response to the onslaught of ridiculous snowball'ie type matches (which if its happening mostly in the regular player base then its a problem that should not be ignored if it isn't as 'frequent' in the pro'ish scene). Then i can't really see the concept of a 2 unit play-style for a champion, since They'd have to force a proper weakness setup (such as the 'main unit' being a bit on the squish side), which if proven with Kled is usually a bad idea and a good deal of the 'restrictions' that kled gets thrown into once he's off the mount, it makes it very difficult to quickly get back on the mount when the enemy jungler and top laner can apply tower diving pressure with relative ease.

Well. I suppose that you have Azir, who's entire kit revolves around summons (Passive summons a turret, basic abilities are all about his sand soldiers, except for the passive on his W, and his ult makes Shurima great again). But we all already know how difficult it is to manage him and his soldiers at the same time. i think a champion like what you're describing would just be too difficult, unless the pet had a decent AI. Like, I could get behind someone like Ivern, if most of his kit revolved around making Daisy work better.

Orianna Closest thing besides champions who's ults summon actual pets. You have a second object that is always there, can be repositined, and your damage is heavily focused on it.

Riot has said before that they've tried an actual persistent pet and never liked the results. It is either underwhelming for the user or overwhelming for the opponent.

Perhaps a champion who summons a pet, but summons it very often? For example, say they have a wolf they ride on, and their E allows them to dismount the wolf for up to 10 seconds? During that time, the pet is controllable like Tibbers or Daisy, and it would likely interact with your other abilities in some way.

So basically a Carl Clover from Blazblue?

Basically you control both him and his sister, and most of his special attacks come from her. He's fast and slippery, and Nirvana is tankier and the heavy hitter, but is difficult to control.
