Give Lulu a new offensive E

Lulu would be much healthier with a new offensive E. A targeted nuke makes no sense on a support and it causes problems on a mage. It is one of the reasons why solo lane Lulu can be oppressive. So what can we give her instead? A new E could reduce Lulu's oppressive lane bullying in favor of some strength that actually fits her. This post is about design and mechanics. Once those are in a good place, we can worry about numbers and balance. Let’s put on our thinking caps!

  • Teamfighting E: Pix follows target enemy unit for X seconds, increasing allied champions’ damage to the target by Y%. Lulu should be at her strongest when helping high damage allies, no matter which lane she started in. This lowers her damage in lane in favor of teamfight potential. I think it would be a great fit for her character.

  • Playmaking E: Pix shows target enemy the wonders of the Glade, turning Lulu and her allies invisible to the target for [some duration]. Trades damage for playmaking potential. Champions like Vayne or Kha’Zix shortly turn invisible to entire enemy teams, so why not make an entire team invisible to one enemy? Lulu could use a creative ability to set up plays for her teammates.

  • Anti-diving E: Pix deals magic damage to target enemy unit based on the distance to Lulu. Closer targets take more damage, further targets take less damage. This should weaken the bullying of melee champions at max range while making Lulu stronger when you all-in her or her allies. If Lulu wants her full damage potential, she needs to get closer with W, putting herself in danger. Downside is that it becomes unclear how much damage E will deal exactly.

A new E is a great way to give support Lulu some compensation and emphasize what mage Lulu brings to her team. The new E should be situationally strong to introduce meaningful choices between the offensive/defensive parts of the ability. It may even allow maxing E first sometimes for the shield. What do you think of these ideas? And what are your ideas for Lulu’s offensive E? Hopefully we can come up with something to make Lulu healthier.

I love the second one. A blind that lasts for several seconds would be invaluable during ganks. The team coordination with Lulu could be incredibly powerful with something like that. Seeing as they keep nerfing her damage, utility seems like a good idea to me. Meanwhile, you have vision of him and can couple it with Glitterlance for a slow. That beats damage if you have a jungler powerful enough.

Rather than a Graves' smokescreen like blind, I would like Lulu to have a Teemo-like blind. This would help her in all lanes (support, mid and top)

Glitterlance MS reduction should be nerfed to compensate.. (80% to 50%?) because I think Lulu is balanced the way she is now and buffing her e would make her a little OP.

That's why I don't recommend a Teemo blind. Q should be left alone. It's already been nerfed. It doesn't need another. Besides, a vision blind requires setups to be the most effective. It is a fair trade -stronger and more reliable gank initiation in return for constant lane use. That seems fair to me.

I seriously like the second one,but wouldnt that be a little OP?

It may be OP, but it is not as crazy as it seems on first sight. Graves and Nocturne take away vision for multiple people and there is currently a change on PBE to reduce the cooldown if Noct uses his ult just for vision. Riot apparently sees a future for this kind of mechanic.

There are also many examples of champions who turn invisible shortly Vayne Khazix MonkeyKing Twitch Shaco. For me this has enough potential for playmaking to throw the idea out there. Like Lulu says: "You'll see more with your eyes closed."

Also this quote could be used upon casting Help,Pix! on an enemy champion.

You,Sir,have a great idea. :)

What would be the counterplay though? Because a single target non-skillshot team invis even if it's only on one champion seems incredibly strong for teamfights.

I do however like the first idea and it would also be the easiest to implement into her current kit. I like the second idea but I feel as if it has no weakness or counterplay.

You are absolutely right that there is no counterplay. Current offensive E also has no counterplay, but that is no excuse. Definitely a very good reason to never implement my suggestion.

However, E does have some potential for counterplay. Lulu has to chose between her shield or offensive E. It also moves Pix, so sometimes you can E a target just to line up a perfect glitterlance. The problem with current support Lulu is that it is almost always optimal to shield your adc. I would love a little more choice there.

By the way, The Unfriendly, thank you for your in-depth posts on this forum, especially on Lulu. Keep up the good work!

How about something like this: Lulu will help pix an enemy which allow pix to follow and grant vision for 4 or 6 seconds (whatever number to make it balance) and also put a spell on them making them have vision reduced to 500 range (whatever number is balance) for the first 2 or 3 seconds of the spell (whatever number to make it balance).

The vision cc should be a small duration like 2 or 3 seconds because like u said it a click single target cc and their no counterplay. (Or maybe even 1 seconds that scale to 2 seconds.)

Hmm... so, kind of like a targeted grave's smoke bomb? Everyone seems to like vision reduction, personally I feel like vision reduction is hard to balance. The reason graves smoke screen works is because you can walk out of it and even then it's really not that fun to use but it's extremely annoying to play against.

Speaking of vision reduction let's take a look at two abilities from two different champions, Akali's Twilight Shroud and Grave's Smoke Screen.

So first how are these both vision reduction spells and in what ways are they similar and what are their differences? Akali's shroud reduces the vision of Akali by making her invisible in the shroud, while Grave's smoke screen reduces the vision of whoever is inside. Both of these abilities apply a slow which honestly seems tacked on, but if it was going to stay it makes more sense on Grave's than it does on Akali. Now onto the abilities... Akali's shroud is a lot of fun to use because it adds to her play and style ... and it's also a lot of fun to play against in fact it's like a mini game of hide and seek because just like Grave's smoke screen it is limited to an area. Grave's smoke screen however is more cast and forget you don't really feel that outplay for using it, and this is despite the fact that it can be extremely aggravating to play against.

With all this in mind I feel like you could just as easily go the opposite direction of this idea and instead of reducing the enemies vision why not remove the ability to cast on an enemy all together, but in return you add a mini stealth (1 second for example) to any ally she casts pix on excluding herself. This opens up a lot of fun interesting plays and still allows the enemy to counter play via stealth reveals. However with that said the cooldown would more than likely need to be increased and the shield would probably not be necessary. Also other questions arise like does this fit on Lulu or would it better fit a new support? Personally I think it can fit Lulu because it seems like it fits her crazy whimsical nature. Thoughts?

I like the first one, but it would be cool if it had a Trundle Bite slow on activation.

Does the slow from glitterlance count?

They all sound cool! My favorite is the first one, I think it fits best into a support kit that's already full of utility.
