New Guardian Angel is the new thing to rush when you're ahead

For the past few days now, any Draven adc or lee sin jungle I see, if they get a good lee early game, they just rush item 3026. It's annoying, not only are they tanker, but they also have a damage spike from the item 1038 that they buy, and if I manage to kill them, pop, there back up and I don't get my shut down gold.

The new design for it is borderline stupid. 8 minute cooldown that gets reduced by 2 minutes every time you die? Who exactly is that for? Players who suck and need a safety net every time they feed 4 kills? When has rewarding death ever been a thing in Riot's designs that didn't get reworked later?

Anivia This one really rewards it if you die in the right way (die where they can't hit you and you're back at full hp).

How did I forget her

Lets not also forget the classic teleporting egg trick too.

I love that trick.

Sucks on aatrox because it procs over his passive.

If the changes go through, it will no longer be a "get ahead and rush it for decent damage with defense and a safety net". It will be for champions who are behind, who can get the most use out of it.

The idea is that its harder to say "My GA is on CD, lets play safe for a couple of minutes." Basically Riot trying to punish really passive play while GA is on CD without screwing over people that do still fight while its down.

(And maybe an overall nerf to the item, cause it can get a little stupid right now.)

Its a safety net already? No one who will die will be like "Oh boy, my GA is on a 2 min less cooldown now, WORTH" Its not a reward.

You know, it amazes me how Glass cannons would never pick up GA, BV, whatever, out of some misplaced sense of "they have to remain Glass cannon." And then complain that they are getting blown up, because they don't invest in defenses.

Yet when we put defensive utilities on an Offensive scaling item, it all of a sudden becomes the cancerous thing ever. (The same thing is happening as it was with EoN)

You mean to tell me that an item that offers damage and utility/defense in the same package is inherently better than that same item offering one over the other, specifically when the majority of the item's value budget is in the passive?

I've always seen people rush GA when they are ahead. Once you had a few damage items and were kicking ass you grab GA and make them all cry.

awdaf7 votes

Lol yeah, that's after you have a few damage items and are past the 30-35 minute mark, I'm talking about grabbing this thing pre 20 minutes.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I'm fine with that too. They are sacrificing damage for dubious survivability if they are close and if someone is behind they can still catch up by buying raw damage.

Early game it really makes tower dives and ganks massively harder.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

True, but once again they are sacrificing a lot of damage to do that. This gives the opposition an opportunity to outplay the other guy.

This is the reason why Riot should have just outright removed GA from the game if it was problematic on tanks. ADCs need nerfs, not buffs to their itemization.

Either that or GA should have charges that cost 1000g to refill.

Elkington VI4 votes

It's never been problematic on tanks, as there have always been better items for them to buy. Even back when penetration was OP and rushed every game (brutalizer + Last Whisper meta), most tanks and bruisers still never bought it. Rammus is like the only tank that ever got it, for obvious reasons. Whenever GA has been strong, it's always been damage dealers that get the most out of it.

PrinceOfStorms1 votes

Then it should have not been reworked into an AD item as part of the tank update? The cited reason for the change was that tanks were buying it.

I thought the cited reason was that ADCs WEREN'T buying it because it didn't "help their build path" because it had no damage and they want to nuke friggin everything while also being able have 2 lives.

Riot said a while back that they thought the GA passive was "better on an AD item" than a tank item.

Though to be honest marksmen itemization should have been gutted beyond belief, or marksmen as a whole should be reworked into mages or something, because the entire class is a design failure.

I had a match against a Yi that was snowballing. We exhausted everything to take him down, and then we had to deal with his team mates who left us for Yi to clean up when his GA was done reviving him. It was pointless to continue on from there. We surrendered immediately, knowing we'd never be able to stop Yi considering how much of a problem he was, he had a GA and we still had his team to deal with.

Yay for Riot

Darius does the exact same thing. Tanky as fuck, can't ignore him and can't kill him twice.
