Should Tryndamere Get an Update Soon?

So this is going to be similar to my Shyvana Update discussion I posted not to long ago. Pretty much we can all agree that Tryndamere is probably one of the oldest champions in League, not the oldest but one of the oldest. But overall, in my opinion, I feel like his kit is a little outdated and a little unfair to play against. Some of you may disagree and say that he is underpowered, which I can understand, but from my experience from playing against him he almost dominates if he gets a little fed, which most of the time he does. But I'm getting ahead of myself so let's just start out what are the positives of him:

  • A great split pusher

  • High damage

  • Fairly good duelist

  • Good mobility

Now let's look at the things that I've found to be problems with him, whether it be against him or as him.

  • Insanely frustrating and unfair ult to play against (along with his E and W)

  • Maybe too good mobility

  • Pretty much a built-in 35% crit chance from lvl 1 (just why)

  • Doesn't really provide anything in teamfights except damage and becoming a CC magnet

  • Split pushing is basically the only thing I see him do

As you can see he does have some good pros about him but at the same time those pros can lead to some of the cons just because he does them a little too good. I mean, let's face it he's one of the best split pushers in the whole game but that's all I feel he ever does. Other then that, I only ever see him come into team fights when the rest of the team is either heavily pushing, ahead of the other team, or the other team has taken a fair amount of damage and he comes in for clean up. The second issue is the design of his kit. Two of the abilities in it I find the most problematic, those being his ult and passive. The passive on him I've always had an issue with. As stated before it's basically a 35% crit chance from the very start of any match. Granted you have to fill the bar up first but even then that's not that hard. Even worse is that Bloodlust is extremely useful on him due to it healing from crit damage and so you can pretty much heal from it fairly easily.

The second worse ability, and the more obvious one, is the ult. There is basically no counterplay to this thing. You can't even stop it with pretty much any CC, which is complete bullshit. So basically you have to spend pretty much all of your CC on him even when he ults just so he would spin away in fear while the rest of his team wails down on you uncontested. Speaking of the spin, that brings us to our next problem: he just seems to have no stop to this damn thing for mobility. Just the fact that it comes off cooldown faster due to crit strikes makes this frustrating to deal with. Remember, he already has 35% crit chance so this basically adds to the problem. While it does provide good mobility, I feel he can just use it way too often. I almost always become enraged when this guys spins towards, starts fighting me, pops his ult and I almost kill him due to the ult timer running out only to have him spin off at a ridiculous distance away due to all the crits he landed on me and got that spin back. And even if he did kill me, most of the time he'll be able to spin away from anyone else coming after him. Not to mention that when paired with the stupid slow on the W when your turned to him, it turns it into one of the most stupid gap closers ever. As for the W itself it just feels like luck and good timing more then anything. Other then that I just find it to be boring to use or frustrating when landed perfectly. Hell basically the only ability I don't have a complaint about is his Q, which unless you're still playing AP Tryndamere, is possibly the only fair thing about his kit.

In a shorter version for those who don't like to read walls of text, his ult is unfair and not fun to play against, his E is just stupid for its mobility and cooldown with crit, his passive for 35% crit at lvl 1 is just stupid, W is basically useless unless the enemy is running from him, and overall he doesn't really bring anything to teamfights but damage or cleanup and most of the time he'll be split pushing. These are my reasons for why he needs a rework. You might say it's because he's underpowered, but again from my experience and probably many others he just is completely annoying to play against. I can't exactly say how I would rework him or give any redesigns for his kit but I do have some ideas and suggestions if he does get planned to be reworked soon (and when I say reworked I mean Sion/Poppy level):

  1. If the ult has to stay, make it more fair to play against - add some sort of counterplay system to it. Don't just make him be able not to die for X seconds and then run away. If I remember his lore correctly his rage allowed him to keep alive. So instead of not dying after health drops to whatever, how about his rage acts as a secondary health bar during this time. Essentially, when he drops to a certain health he uses his rage bar as his health for the duration. Every X amount of damage removes a determined amount of rage, and because he gains rage from his attacks it would benefit as more of a dueling ult rather then a get out of a enemy kill free card. He would have to keep landing hits on his opponent to keep him alive for the duration.

  2. Remove the 35% crit from him - This is more of a personal suggestion but having 35% crit at lvl 1 is just not fair. Yes Jhin can crit at lvl 1 too, for anyone who may bring that up, but he has to waste 3 other shots before that and then wait for the reload, and do it all over again. From that, you have a small window to jump on him so long as you don't get rooted by him or anything else. Tryndamere, however, has more of the ability to push people out of lane due to him possibly getting more crits off due to his passive. As well, 35% is a lot to have at lvl 1 and just doesn't seem fun to play against.

  3. Perhaps lower his mobility a tad bit - Again this is more personal but his mobility is just a little much for me. I'd rather prefer that the cooldown on his E is switch to killing a minion reduces it by 1 while champion kills reduce it by a little more. Since right now it's based on crit and he mostly builds crit items, he can basically have this gap closer/ escape up almost all the time.

  4. Add more so he can participate more in team fights or make him more into a duelist split pusher - Right now he's sitting at the point of the duelist champion who can also split push extremely well, so you can expand on that (not the healthiest thing to do but it's still there) or try adding more to his team fighting. That I feel is one of his weakest points right now, so reworking the W into something that can benefit more in teamfight could help (pretty much rework W into something different for more team fighting potential).

  5. Maybe another visual update - While he isn't the worst looking champion, he could use another model update as well as a better VO now. His current dialogue is in a very small pool and I feel like he needs this a bit.

And these are just some things that I would suggest. Really I do want to like Tryndamere but he's just way too frustrating to play against. He's up there with these champions that I never really want to play against (Akali Blitzcrank Ekko Ezreal Fiora Fizz Heimerdinger Irelia Jax Jayce Kayle LeeSin Lux Orianna Nidalee Mordekaiser Rengar Riven Shaco Singed Soraka Vladimir MonkeyKing Yasuo Zed Shen MasterYi Leblanc Annie Anivia I have a very long list). And so this is where I leave you guys to decide on this. Do you agree with what I say? Agree with some things? Disagree? I want to hear what you guys have to say and see if you have any suggestions of your own. As well, if you want to see my post on Shyvana getting an update, link will be provided below and if I get good feedback on this I may continue doing these for champions that I feel need a discussion on an update.

the biggest problem is his unreliability on his W slow right now. The enemy can just randomly turn towards you and you won't get the slow, which means you cannot engage on any type of ranged champion.

Any ranged champion with a slow or disengage or a mage with rylais can kit him forever, Kennen Gnar Cassiopeia Teemo are all champions that can kite him throughout the entire game, rendering him useless

You say he has lots of mobility, but he only has mobility in matchups where he basically already wins, in melee matchups that are favorable where he can attack freely.

You only propose nerfs to him, but no buffs whatever and he already is in a weak spot right now.

You say remove his crit, but he only has 1 damaging ability, what else will he do damage with you say remove his mobility, but he only has mobility when he can reach you

Ok I can see the points you make, especially with the W and the kiting problem, but remember I said this was from my experience from playing against him and from that no one every picks these champions that can easily counter him and then he just snowballs out of control. I also acknowledge the fact about his only one damaging ability, his terms of mobility against the enemy team comp and how you think my suggestions are only nerfs, but I probably should've been more clear about the rework.

When I proposed it, i meant a Sion/Poppy level rework. That's what I was trying to refer to. With that level of rework we could actually get something more interesting from him, like actually giving him more then one damage ability and a better ability for his W. The suggestions where just stuff that I wanted to see in it. If they did remove the crit from his passive, they probably would've worked in another form of damage from him. And I didn't say remove his mobility I said lower it a bit. The mobility still should be a part of his kit but, again from my experience, he can just jump on top of someone, crit them to death and then spin right back out before anyone can get to him.

If you still don't agree, that's fine. These are just my personal thoughts on what should happen to make him a little more fair to play against but also try to open a window for making him more interesting to play. However, I do want to ask how would you buff or rework him? How would you try to fix him?

I believe he is up for a rework in the divers/fighter class after they finish reworking the assassins.

His ult is his only true identity really, and his e spin is his only way of mobility, so they probably won't touch these and I won't either.

His W needs a rework. The only part used on his W is the slow, the AD is just a nice bonus. I would probably give it a guaranteed slow, that gets stronger as they face away from you. Or maybe make the slow scale with how many fury you have. This way he gets a guaranteed slow. And obviously rework his RNG crit reliance, possibly making a rework where you get % AA damage increase the higher your fury is.

I'm just gonna put this placeholder here cuz I wanna talk about him. He was free this week, and being the scrub I am I had to play him since I don;t have a lot of champs.

Pretty fun so far but he's a huge, obnoxious statcheck and I have a few ideas to fix it.

And before you say I have no idea how to balance since I'm a noob, I have a good bit of experience in character concepts/balancing from when I played Smite.

Just a disclaimer so people take me seriously.

OK, so first off, I have to say that his kit is just unfitting thematically. His ult is supposed to represent his force of will, this indomitable rage that not even death overcomes. It actually has nothing to with his resource, which shows his ANGER AT EVERYTHING!!!!!! His 1 is really cool, I like it. Sustain for after you trade or after a gank/duel and trading combat stats for reliable HP. His W, not too great, another thing that makes him a statcheck. Rework it into some form of teamfight ability, like maybe a cleave attack so he can reliably hit backliners. I'm talking about his E a little later, but I'd keep it so he's pretty much a diving fighter. His ult, though, has some big problems. Like I said before, it has NOTHING to do with Fury.

Except he gains some when he activates it. Boooooring. I like what OP said about his rage acting as a health bar when he gets low, and I'm really gonna focus on that, since low health and his ult are what makes Tryndamere , Tryndamere imo.

So he eats Fury instead of getting a free "no death" pass, which is a severe nerf to an already broken ability. It's not really outplayable since it's, like I said before, a statcheck. If you have more health, Armor, and crit reductions than Tryd can break through, you win and you normally kill him.

If he's stronger than you, he kills you. That simple. This is the kind of binary interaction that shouldn't exist, like we all know. Of ourse, you could just run away, but then he hits W and suddenly he E's into your face and you have no escape from a hyperspeed undying maniac with a fuckhueg sword.

I'd say, like before, make his ult drain his resource but grant him some form of ridiculous offensive power, like armor pen or if we still want the crit route (I think it's kind of fun) crit damage/chance. Keep the mobility, but tie it to Fury somehow so he doesn't straight up own you without taking some pain first. With his speed, I think he could be reworked into a diver or skirmisher, similar to his nemesis Aatrox . Maybe change the E to incorporate some form of CC instead of resetting, if you want, but I would prefer to keep the resetting CD since it just provides more potential for outplays.

What does everyone think?????

The same level of mobility to jump on backliners, then ult and beat the everliving SHIT out of them while outsustaining everyone then slap them some more since you're Tryndamere and you don't give 2 fucks about fighting on low HP.

Oh, asking for nerfs? Then I agree
