10/23 PBE Update

These resolve rune changes are definitely a step in the right direction. Excellent choices.

For those that want a TL;DR...

  • Shield Bash is replacing bone plating and gives you an empowered basic attack while shielded that scales with bonus health and shield amount
  • Overgrowth now caps and gives you 2.5% increased health after 120 stacks

Love both of these. Really hope they will help resolve feel like a good investment for tanky champs.

overgrowth change fuckin blows for anyone who actually takes it right now. Who are they marketing it to? Supports? Squishies that want free HP?

shield bash is cancer, stop giving tanks damage runes in their tank tree, stop letting people convert defense into damage outside of their own kit

shield bash is literally just made for Ornn to shit on you in lane.

there are going to be like 3 top lane champions who can pick it because they have shields built into their kit, and theyre going to fuck everyone else up, because they get a grasp proc in damage every time they activate their shields and are going to be impossible to trade into, and every other champion has fucking demolish available instead which is still garbage with the 3 second timer.

theyre also removing more survivability from the defensive rune path in favour of more damage.

Shield Bash is a really bad rune. It's super niche in terms of tanks who can actually use it without weird itemisation or the Guardian rune.

Tanks who can use shield bash: Blitzcrank (kinda) Galio (kinda) JarvanIV Malphite (kinda) Nautilus Ornn Poppy Shen Sion Skarner TahmKench Taric Udyr

Tanks who can't use shield bash: Alistar Braum Chogath Gragas Leona Maokai Rammus Sejuani Singed Volibear Warwick Zac

Being realistic, Blitz, Galio and Malph have too little control over their shields for this to be a viable rune on them, they can just technically make use of it not practically make use of it. So under half of tanks can actually use this rune at all. I was also generous as to what constitutes a tank in list 1 and harsh in list 2. The actual pool of tanks who would even look at this rune is J4, Naut, Ornn, Shen and Sion. The others all have better choices.

Having a niche rune isn't always a bad thing, but when the other options are Font of Life, a rune that's already niche and Demolish, a rune that you take because you have no other options and don't generally want it's a bad idea. If anything this rune should have replaced Demolish, although I still don't think it'd be a good idea.

Those changes look horrible...

Demolish got a reduced channel buff the same patch we get free stat choices, this means any jungler can throw demolish on their secondary for fast sieges.. and because bone plate was removed, that removes competition from just taking it.

Shield bash is a camille buff, and probably will enforce an enchanter meta down in bot lane with the rune being taken on ADCs.

This is not the time to go through with these changes. I knew resolve was going to be a balance nightmare if you opened up more freedom with stats you get while taking it, but buffing the tree was the opposite of what it needed.

I'm thinking of just going cinderhulk junglers with demolish.

Is there really a cap on overgrowth? The way it's worded it could just be a bonus effect while still stacking after.

On the tree change, I feel like it's a pretty big buff for champ like sion and just hope they will keep an eye on them
