No it is not, supporting is helping your team by keeping them alive or making catches, not trying to do the most damage.

So, stunning them over and over and over, constant slows, and 3k damage in teamfights isn't supporting? Sorry, but not everybody is Soraka. Not everybody wants to PLAY Soraka. Just because YOU only know Soraka as a support doesn't mean everybody should bend over backwards for you.

You can still stun people when building redemption and locket.

OK, genius, tell me where in this build are you going to find room for a Redemption AND a Locket? item 2301 item 3151 item 3116 item 3135 item 3089 item 3020

Maybe you can toss out the Deathcap for Locket, since I'm not that keen on Deathcap myself. (Just copying the above build) But where tf is Redemption going to fit? If the enemy has ANY sense, they're going to have Maw + Edge of Night on every AD and Abyssal/Visage, so you can't throw out Void Staff. Liandry's stays too since flat pen is a great stat. (esp. after Void Staff shredded 1/3 of their MR) Rylai's is also very important.

So where's the space for Redemption/Locket?

Locket was changed to where pretty much no one even bothers using it now. With no MR Aura to help the team out, all that it's got going for it is a Shield active, which isn't bad but there's just better things out there.

Redemption really only works well for those that use Shields or Heals and not every traditional support even has those, so why should AP supports build it?

This. I've played Xerath and Ziggs "support" with damage items. I end up doing more damage than my ADC, sadly some people get salty thinking that being an ADC entitles them to kills.

lel. AP Supports have been around for years and most of them also have CC that helps them support. So saying they aren't isn't true at all.

Just because they can sometimes get the kills and not the ADC doesn't mean they AREN'T supporting.

PSA: Brand has been a staple support for 3 Seasons (since S4 when he got featured in Dark Horses) and counting, and Malz offers a huge silence and tons of lane harass.

This post screams "I got outdamaged by a Brand/Malz and I'm really salty about it."

Yea but try arguing that and see what happens in lobby. Tryndamere ap support or as ahri support will now be a part of your team comp

It can vary.

If your team already has several durable utility-oriented champions, Brand Support can be rather useful to provide damage to your team.

Though, that is a rare situation since many just blindly pick squishy damage-oriented carries.

Give me an example of a comp where brand support is not hindering your team.

Shortly after Ivern was released, we ended up with the following team: Ivern Top, Nunu Jungle, Taliyah Mid, Jinx ADC, Support

Considering three of our champions provided primarily utility, I (and Taliyah) decided to camp bottom lane to ensure they won.

The combination of Jinx and Brand's AOE damage in teamfights led to us crushing the enemy team.

It really depends. I don't think riot cares at this point. With Brand, Malz, and Zyra if they build their Sight Stone upgrade then it doesn't matter. Aside from the peeling champs, Support is just a glorified warding bot. That is all riot makes sure the role does.
