"Elo hell doesn't exist"

DoktorKaiser··7 votes·718 views

My brother who started playing 6 months ago, can play 1 maybe 2 champions decently, loses lane all the time gets carried easily to gold by his teammates and premades he finds often (including me sometimes). He never carried a single fucking game and he got gold easily, never stopped climbing.

Me, plat elo season 2, diamond season 3, stuck in silver and can't get out because I get imbeciles who probably have no idea what buttons they are pressing. I might have not played ranked in few years due to frustration and I am rusty, but that doesn't mean I am now a trash silver. I might be overreacting because I am only playing ranked for a few days, but this already looks like a dead end.

What the fuck do I even do?? And who the hell actually believes that in this elo its not totally random if you climb or not, unless you're a high diamond/challenger miracle maker?? I am already tired, idk why I even came back to ranked when this was expected...

Judging from your match history, you're a tanky top/jg. And therein lies the problem. You have a high MMR but you're not a carry. That means your carry will have low MMR. Meanwhile, the enemy team's carry will have high MMR. So you pretty much lose.

Yes, MMR matchmaking is unfair. It would be much better if Riot just matched people based on rank.

Exactly my thoughts, get fucked because you play tanks 2017 is real. The worst thing is Orianna is quite op right now, but I just cant for the love of god do anything in this elo with her, she is by far my best champ yet I have like 20% win rate on her, maybe I am way too cocky since I go in like "hurrr durrr Ori is op now and I one tricked her to low diamond, lets stomp this trash" and ofc I get fucked by junglers 24/7. Wish I had a premade who actually knew how to play well consistently so we can climb, I mean its flex after all. But alas, I got nobody :(

Winning your lane doesn't necessarily equate to winning game. It isn't 1v1 ARAM. There's other factors too. Your brother probably climbed with something other than mechanical skill.

Yeah its called matchmaking luck. He never lost a single promo, I on the other hand already lost a few. Believe me when I say this, he is trash player, of course I cant tell him this myself, but he really sucks, of course he can make good plays or win lane but that is sooo rare that its not worth it. I am a 10 times better, more experienced and more mechanically skilled player, not because he is an idiot or smt but simply because he is new to the game. The fact that he is higher elo than me shows how trash the matchmaking is. Of course might also be the fact that its flex Q where I mostly play alone in unfair matches vs 5 premades.

Btw what makes you think that I am talking about the laning phase, that might even be the only thing he knows how to do, after that he is clueless and I have to tell him what to do if I am watching him play or we play together. I myself am a terrible laner and much better mid/late game, I just cant carry when my botlane goes 0 13 0 after 2 minutes. Its the same situation for the enemy team when I am winning, I might as well afk and I would still win. The matchmaking is just pathetic and games are a pile of hot steaming shit.

Git gud. You dont git gud by simply crying on the forums, you git gud by actually training yourself.

I know man, but I just dont have the time to play as much as I used to, I lost half my nerves since I am working now and I just got tired after 3 days, but yet I dont want to stay in silver because then what happens is every single fucktard just types my name on any lol website and there it pops, the silver badge, and immediately all my game knowledge and opinions are discarded because I am a silver trash and dont know shit. I guess I really wanted too much considering I am quite rusty, I should just earn my placement. Just butthurt how my brother got it for free, didnt earn shit and now teases me about it -,-

You were once diamond and now cant get out of silver? xdddd

Yeah I am just gonna watch game of thrones first, I waited for far too long, but then I will definitely kms. Rip...

I went out of Silver 3 times, with 60+% winrate on the main champ I used every time, and 52-55% winrate overall (because I didn't always get my main). Three different times, with two different champions. In fact, I even started all the way down in Bronze. And I still reached Gold.

Are you claiming I'm some "Diamond/Challenger miracle maker"? If only...

You can't climb a full tiers through sheer luck. You can climb maybe a division or two, but not a full tiers. Instead of being jealous of your brother, you should look for what he's doing better than you. Because I don't know what, but there must be something...

The only positive thing I can say about his plays is that he is not retarded. He wont throw a game, he doesnt flame (at least not in game), he focuses on objectives which is the first thing I taught him BUT he can only play Yorick and half-decently, he loses lane 90% of time, he doesnt know his damage or his enemies damage, he doesnt know half the champ kits, he doesnt know the matchups, he is often losing in farm, he stays top way too long sometimes and doesnt join a fight, he never uses teleport proactively, there are so many things I can say. He simply got lucky, but I found out a big difference between him and me. Since he is still learning, before ranked his normal w/l ratio was terrible, like 46% maybe so for most of the time he was playing with silvers and golds in ranked, while mine is around 53% and I am often playing versus platinums (in normals I played vs diamonds quite a bit). I am pretty sure that since we dont have ranked MMR they throw us opponents based on normals mmr, no other explanation as to why I am playing vs high golds and plats while he is playing against his own ranking, not saying that its not fair, it is, but its much easier to get out of silver if I am actually able to fucking beat silvers and easily snowball and get to elo where I belong rather than giving me plats before I even get out of silver...

DeathBurst2 votes

Yeah, it looks a bit unfair at first glance. But when you look closer, it's actually OK. Let me explain.

If the system matches you against Plat, it's because it believes you have Plat level. So that's the good news. But then you can't always win versus Plat, so now you're stuck in Silver, not cool, right? Well, not really. If the system is right and you're actually worth Plat, you should win/lose roughly half your matches. But if you lose against Plat while being ranked Silver, this will cost you very few LP, and winning will earn huge amounts of LP. So even with a flat 50% winrate, you'll still get something like 5 to 10 LP per game on average, and you'll still climb in Rank. You just need a bit of time.

(And yeah, it's annoying that the Ranked ladder is so grindy, but that's very much on purpose from Riot. I disagree with that decision, but it's not up to me... It's supposed to give us a sense of progress over the course of the season...)

Except both teams will have ~ the same MMR total. Which means if your MMR is high, other people on your team have a low MMR. And if you're not playing a carry, you pretty much just lost the game.

DeathBurst2 votes

No. EVERYONE in a given game is from the same MMR, which is how you get both teams with roughly the same MMR. If you're against Plats, you're with Plats too, even if you are Silver yourself. Or at least people with an MMR equivalent to Plat. Of course, if you check them out on a 3rd-party website, they may not appear Plat, but well, you do not appear Plat yourself.

(And if you play good, you win games, no matter your roles. One of the three times I climbed out of Silver was with Sona. You don't need to play carries.)

Michael7021 votes

That's incorrect. It's true that both teams are ~ the same MMR but that doesn't mean everybody has the same MMR. Some will have less while others have more. And if you're the guy on your team with high MMR and you're not in a carry role, that means your carry probably has low MMR. This would be much easier to explain if I could post a pic inline.

And I'm plat 4.

DeathBurst1 votes

You won't have a "real" Silver (i.e. someone with Silver-equivalent MMR ---MMR is what's important, not current Rank) and a "real" Plat in the same game, that's not true.

The only exception that can happen is if two players Duo at the limits of what's allowed. Technically, a Silver5 with Bronze2-MMR and a Gold1 with Plat4-MMR are allowed to Duo together, and this is bullsh*t. When that kind of things happen, the matchmaking goes haywire, I'll grant you that, but that's a very specific and not so common case.

If there are no absurd Duos to throw wrenches in the system, everyone is at the same MMR, +/- 1-2 divisions.

I still think its just easier and better for everyone to just let me roll to high gold/low plat in a few days. This is frustrating for me, I have weak nerves so grinding doesnt really suit me and unfortunately I get mad easily, that leads to me being semi-toxic and a rude person, that ruins my teams experience and its just bad for everyone involved. I dont understand how they fail to see that it usually leads to this, shit for everyone :(

DeathBurst1 votes

They do understand, but they give more importance to the fact that you still have "fair" matches (against people from your own skill level) at all points of your climbing, and that you're not stomping other players, even for only a few days, because that would be a terrible experience for them. I can't say I 100% agree with them, but I do understand their reasoning too.

ReySolomon1 votes

I got out of there by improving myself and tell my teammates to never give up until they get to our nexus.

DoktorKaiser1 votes

Well I must admit, I am not the nicest person around when the shit starts to get bad, I blame others when they make mistakes and constantly harass them by telling them exactly what to do. Of course if they did listen we would win easily, but then again people are stubborn, not saying you should be rude like me, but they definitely should listen to someone else if they have no idea what they are doing.

I guess I should stop playing tanks and start playing early game carries, I am not that good anymore to be able to carry with any champ, nor do I actually believe that you can do that, but the board will always insure you that you can climb with any pick. You probably can, but lets be real, its 10 times harder to carry yourself to high elo with shit like Volibear that I play compared to someone who plays tumors Lee or Zac.

True, and I was always mad everytime my jgl would miss smite on baron or they get caught out and feed but I stopped and I was checking what I was doing wrong and fixed them and I noticed If you keep a positive attitude towards your teammates you will win 40% more games because they will keep trying even though they are 0-10.

Maybe you should play solo queue and then come back with a post. Grouping with people in flex and then whining about their poor performance is kind of like shooting yourself with a gun and then whining about there not being enough gun control.

Zelorxon1 votes

I know several people i coached IRL that are diamonds, and by god, they're so fucking clueless and oblivious about the game it's irritating. I also know an ADC main who is plat, and i'm a WAY better adc than him, while being a jungle main.

Now let's see where riot places me this year, pretty sure the game where i was monstrously fed and my team got raped by colossus olaf, critless corki and muramana ryze must have been my fault, and that other one, and that other one, and that other one, and that other one, and that other one, and that other one, and that other one...

SoloQ ladder is as much as a joke as riot games and league players are, and isn't funny not even a little.
