There really need to be punishment for playing poorly, especially at higher ratings

I'm semi-consistently getting teams of Diamond players who have absolutely nothing beyond mechanical skill.

I just had a game where my team was 2-17 at 16 minutes. Bottom died 8 times, mid died 4 times, top died 4 times, and I died once in a counter-gank. All four players were playing immobile champions and permanently pushed to the enemy tower. I pointed out that they need to stop pushing, because I can't cover counter-ganks in all three lanes at once, and they just ignored me. Top and middle didn't even use their trinket wards consistently, let alone buy any wards.

This really isn't acceptable. I expect a certain level of skill and knowledge from anyone who can reach Diamond, and I'm not getting it. These aren't players on tilt, these are explicitly bad players, and I've been encountering more and more over the past two seasons.

What is being done about this? Is it supposed to be okay that this many players are completely lacking in literally everything but mechanical skill?

So the losing team should be punished every game? Nice logic.

If they managed to work their way up to diamond, then they deserve to be in diamond. Unless you're at the pits of Diamond V, that is what "Diamond Skill" is. Which makes some sense, because getting to Diamond isn't necessarily about being great at the game, it's about grinding out hours and hours of games. The type of person likely to do that is the one more likely to put their effort at 'improving' at the game into clocking in hours, and playing the FreeLO of the time, instead of those willing to improve their tactical gameplay.

(Does not speak for all Diamond players, but I can see how this happens.)

Tl:DR: If they're in diamond, that's where they are. Punishment for bad play isn't a report option for a reason, though.

Except when everyone is equally shit, it makes games impossible to win consistently and devolves ranked into 'who can play 1000+ games to make the statistics even out?'

Spamming queues and hoping you get less monkeys on your team isn't fun. It completely removes your individual skill from the outcome.

I just had a game where I was carrying as Udyr, but my entire team refused to group or take objectives. There were five straight minutes of free dragon, and nobody came to take it. The enemy team kept picking them off for over 10 minutes straight, because they refused to group, and caught up and won.

I think this is a bit of a grey area because there is definitely a difference between trying your best and then refusing to adapt to the situation and refusing to work with the team. If someone has a bad game like my yas did and fed a fizz, he still tried hard to win, tried to judge when and when not to help and work with the team, gave us suggestions to play better and got ganked so no one can really blame him so I didn't report him. Not too long ago though I had an adc who simply refused to avoid being harassed and would not accept farming under the tower ad an option and so they intentionally kept losing huge chunks of health until finally they left or died, and again with a shen who fed a riven by refusing to back away from her while laning again and again and again. For those willfully chosen continuous mistakes and willful inadapatability I reported them.
