How we (Riot) feel about Annie.

Here's some stuff we're happy with about Malzahar Annie and are unlikely to change:

Functions well as a reliable anti-mobility/anti-assassin via ~~Nether Grasp (R)~~Pyromania (Passive) and E. Has really fun/unique farming patterns via Malefic Visions (E) Disintegrate (Q).

Here's some stuff we're less happy with and are actively trying to resolve:

A simple W>EQ>R is often enough to eliminate or remove enemies, leaving them little opportunity to act outside of not getting into his her range. MalzaharAnnie is inherently low agency, and is historically balanced in a way that means he she forces similarly low agency situations upon opponents. Voidlings Tibbers are is a cool and unique element of the kit that often don't play a large role in his success throughout the game (AD Malz aside).

No. Annie's short range makes her much more interactive. It's why Annie succeeds in being an anti-assassination/mobility mage moreso than a burst mage. She's vulnerable to being poked out more than she's capable of poking (in most matches), unlike Malzahar, who gets to be both a poke mage and a burst mage thanks to his extra range.

While she is easier to poke back this is still true for the most point. I'm just pointing out that she falls in line with a lot of what they're saying about Malz and that she should have been in the update.

I think having more interactivity is Malz's biggest problem, though.

And Annie's biggest problem is the one they don't have in common: she's way too reliable, even when she's not ahead.
