So what happened to the new Ryze?

Ryze (The Rogue Mage) - Champions - League of Legends

He was getting spammed the first few days after release but now has almost totally disappeared again. I know people say he's hard to learn and players would eventually get good with him but it looks more to me like everyone put him back on the shelf and those few diehards who are still sticking with him are doing really poorly, at least according to lolking stats.

So what do people think; do they just need to leave him as is or does RIOT need to fix something to make him viable?

I think Ryze's rework was a success but, like any champion rework / release it will take time for people to realize how to utilize their newfound strengths and hide their weaknesses.

His Passive allows him to get off about 3 W's in a single fight (8 second long fight) which means he can get his ult off about twice which is 100% upkeep during fights.

Frozen Heart is now redundant on him because of the CDR his ult gives. What did he lose in exchange?

I've played him once in an Aram now but I really enjoyed it. I doubt I'll use him much on SR because of what I usually play but might use him here and there on normals

There's a Korean player who does really well with him. PoohManDu spams Ryze a lot. He still builds FH sometimes, but I don't like it on him. He always builds Tear, RoA, and either Luden's or Deathcap, which I completely agree on. The rest of the build seems to be very situational. Either opting for more damage or more survivability.
