I just realized that the W nerf to Shyvana didn't make it in the patch notes! While I'm not arguing that Jungle Shyvana MAY have needed it due to Devourer, it would really have crippled Lane Shyvana.

Glad RIOT is waiting to see how strong or popular Jungle Shyvana ends up being before dropping the nerf bat. And if they do I hope they hit the 20% increased monster damage instead so that Lane Shyvana can still be "a thing".

Update: Big shock, RIOT forgot to include it in the notes. Nice knowing you lane Shyvana...

It didn't even take them a day... and here I thought that RIOT had actually decided NOT to deploy something they put on the PBE. I seriously think the PBE is just there as a psychological tool to get us use to the changes before they release them...

I once got attacked for this, but my belief was that the PBE was to test changes in order to implement them in live. I don't know why people attacked me for that XD

That is exactly what it is. And the data files from the pbe are transferred over to the regular servers during patch time.

This is why you see things that aren't ready (like that awesome abyssal scepter rework) get reverted at the end of each cycle.

PBE if primarily for finding bugs. They trust their internal testing much more than PBE when it come to matters of balance.

I honestly hate lane Shyvanna, I rather see her become a full time jungler instead of getting no changes because it might upset the lane version of her.

Much better I rather lane Shyvanna be nerfed then the jungle Shyvanna have a field day with the new item for an entire patch.

The problem is that they tackled it's base damage instead of it doing 20% more damage to monsters. They literally could have just toned that 20% down and nerfed jungle Shyv without touching lane Shyv.

Remember, anything on the PBE is tentative and may not go out. Don't freak out about the changes because they might not go out to live servers. Which pretty much everyone on the boards ignores.

When a PBE cycle nears it's end, and experiental stuff gets removed, it means all the changes there will be shipped to live. And the same happened with the Shyvana nerf too, they just forgot to include it in the patch notes.

Umm... All they did was remove 10 dmg from W at max rank. if an enemy sits in Burnout for its max duration of 7 secs (unlikely) you lose 70 dmg. However, its the on-hit %HP where all of her dmg is in the first place.

Shyvana will be just fine with this nerf.

shyvana doesn't need a nerf. yes she's strong but any champion can be strong. her kit is good where it's at. if you want to balance shyvana changes in her passive might be better; that's what makes her really tanky.

Shyvana top lane is still good. how will nerfing her W make her better in lane? You shouldn't be maxing her W if you go top. you should level your E then your q, and lastly your w.

People play her jungle because yes she she's strong in the jungle but do you think nerfing her W will take her out of the jungle? Because it wouldn't.

Shyvana top lane is still good. how will nerfing her W make her better in lane? You shouldn't be maxing her W if you go top. you should level your E then your q, and lastly your w.

Always max your w first. You're losing out on to much mobility and damage if you don't and it's honestly what makes her so strong in the jungle (yes top as well). Q is almost always last as the levels only give you a negligible damage boost to the ability and a lower cd that still isn't worth prioritizing over w or even e at times.

People play her jungle because yes she she's strong in the jungle but do you think nerfing her W will take her out of the jungle? Because it wouldn't.

Yes it would, she isn't in there because of her q, e , or passive.

Personally, I don't think this damage nerf will affect her in any meaningful way, she is still going to be doing tons of damage in a very short period of time. Don't forget her auto attacks are stronger with burnout up; its possible a nerf like this was necessary to begin with.

That being said, if the goal of the nerf was to keep jungle shyvana in line, I have to agree with the OP in that the % bonus damage should have been looked at over the base damage.

If I continue thinking however, it is still possible for smite to be taken top lane, and with a devourer that caps out, it might be an item worth getting even as a top laner; if you invest in it, you won't be perpetually behind. That isn't to say, of course, that it won't be slower, but still. Because it could also be used top lane, a general nerf may actually be the right approach.

It's not possible to take top lane because you primarily charge it's stack on Jungle monsters. You'll never get it stacked to the Sated Devourer state.

I'm aware, but scuttle crab gives +2, and champion kills/assists grant stacks also. Additionally, there is your jungle camps (gromp, krugs) assuming your jungler is willing to part with them. Actually, because it is takedowns now, you just need to hit it once or twice and get a stack.

It isn't as good as actually jungling it, but it will be more viable than the current devourer which will leave a top laner behind for the entire game. Because the new one will cap out, it makes it an item in the same vein as item 3070 . And because it is more viable for a top laner to pick this item up, I can understand why general nerfs might be preferred over jungle specific ones.

Shyvana is still good. Thank God since I spam her. She's not too big of a problem since it would seem riot balances around low elo. I don't see her too much. Yi is at least 10 times more common (you need ad yi now) I'd bet even with the w nerf, she would have fast clears. Lane shyvana is something I haven't seen for a long time. I remember in early s 5 lane shyvana. was good. She was my 1st main and that's when I actually started playing PvP games (got into the game in pre season 5). I still spam her jg. * puts on pixelated sunglasses* deal with it mother fucker.
