Why is my champion sometimes OP and other times not?

League of Legends Match History

So this game, I built AD/Bruiser Shyvana. Standard stuff. I wasn't expecting to pick up kills, just to survive and deal out enough damage for carries to have an easy time and draw aggro.

Most of the time I run this build I feel like I hit like a wet noodle, but other times, about 40% of the time, I feel like I'm dealing some pretty good damage and able to 100-0 people.

I genuinely don't get why this is when I play. I notice it most on Shyvana because she's my main since season 2 across all my accounts, I can feel her highs and lows each patch in the game.

My tinfoil hat conspiracy theory is that the games code makes me stronger and weak without visible numbers sometimes and other times weaker... but that's insane. I'm trying to quantify an experience into something logical and can't seem to do it.

Maybe I just don't ever account for champion resistances in relation to my builds? I mean I certainly notice a steep drop off in my damage as AP Shyvana the nano second the enemy team buys item 1057 , so maybe after all this time I still haven't learned everything about how my own champion works? I'm the only consistent factor here along with Shyvana for the most part.

Explain how? I'd genuinely like to get better and your wisdom could help.

Balance is a fluid: across patches, certain things will be more powerful and others weaker overall. That's going to vary with team synergies and team counters, and item changes.

Just looking at the match history of your shyvana games, it seems to be a simple case of winning team. If your team is ahead, you can deal damage cause your opponents have bigger issues that shyvana in those fights. If your team is behind, even if your fed as shy, the opposing team can just focus you and there is not much shy can do. In the 5 or 6 shy games i looked at from your history, in all but one game the winning bot won the game, and if your bot was winning you did well, if it was loosing, you eneded up in a bad spot even with some early kills, cause shy can't teamfight vs a fed adc for shit. And in the 1 other game, bot was relatively even and your morde totally crushed irelia top. Something one should never forget is that AA dps scales directly with your opportunity to AA, and for champs like shyvana, if the enemie carrie is not a big threat or simply bad, you can AA people much more freely. Enemie picks and especially CC also matter alot. If your team is winning, it not only means you tend to have more gold, but your opponents all posses less threat and also, therer usually is a reason your team is winning, and often it's because the opponents are less coordinated or have worse mechanics, so you have an easier time playing your game agaisnt them instead of responding to theirs.

It also fuels into my 'tinfoil hat conspiracy theory', neamely that damage dealt scales with %gold difference, there are so many champs where it feels like you can pop people with half your kit if ahead even on a tanky built, and you barly scratch the (non tank)support with a full rotation on a glasscanon built if behind.

P.S. I think you should switch Sunfire for another item. I think shy doesn't have clearspeed issues, especially if going tiamat, and beyond that, Sunfire just offers little compared to other options. Thornmail probably gives the same if not more damage, more survivabillity and GW Randuins gives the most tankiness amongst the armor items and has that VERY usefull slow active to stick on target after ult if you don't have a mallet. Deadman's MS is just always great to have on a champ that has few means beyond walking to get where he wants to be, and the proc damage in most situations evens out with sunfire unless you duke it out with a tank/juggernaut in the sidelane. Also, if you want to 100-0, always get titanic, that active is busted as fuck.

You'd be amazed what the stats from a level difference can do to a fight between champs, and the drag buffs on top of it. Throw in stats from gold lead items, and thats why people are complaining about the snowball nature of today's games.

I also enjoy Shyvana, as AP, and frequently get ahead or fed on top of drag control. In one of those matches the enemy ADC was so underfed I literally killed her from like 90-95% ish hp to 0 with one ult E. On the other hand I have had a match against an incredibly fed Aphelios where even though I was doing well he was 3 levels on me and my E did barely 20%.

If people on your team collectively 20 times very early, and you dont have drag control, it starts adding up really quickly.
