Solution to Dynamic Queue Boosting (That doesn't require getting rid of it)

So I just realized that the solution to Riot's current problem already exists and they recognize it they just haven't used it. Kind of like buying a plunger but not unclogging your toilet. The answer is so incredibly simple I can't believe o one got it. Series games. Seriously, Riot already recognized the issue and they can solve ALL od the DQ issues with the use of a single button.

The solution is simple, do not allow duo/DQ during your three series games. That's it. That simple. It allows people to go on playing all they want with their friends in high ELOs, it prevents people from being tempted to boost because there is less reward. It also encourages Duos for the one legit purpose of an unlucky person playing with a bunch of crappy boosted people. If you can't duo with any one during you series games it would make it so that duo in rank actually was legit friends playing in ranked.

Now because I am used to debate unlike most people on the internet I have thought out many counter points to my own argument and have chosen to address them now so that no one can complain later and derail a good solution.

The first issue is "You can't choose if you are in your series games, it just happens if you are good then you can't play with friends" The simple solution? Add a single button when the series qualifier alert comes up "Delay/Decline/Postpone series qualifiers." That's it. Now you can go on playing DQ with pals regardless of your eligibility to move up in ranks. This is also useful for SQ because what if you want to remain S3 not move up because you like your current game and don't want more of a challenge? What if you want to keep playing at your current level.

The second is people who would complain that this is hijacking other mechanics. Now I will justify why this is a good use of series games and explain why this is more than likely an extension of the intended effect. First consider the purpose of Series. It is to assure that the player is not being simply lucky and is truly ready to move up into the next level of play. It is to assure quality of matches for players and keep skill levels even. This makes total sense because Series are to be certain of the skills of an INDIVIDUAL. That is the actual purpose Riot simply failed to foresee the abuse of DQ that would occur. So while people say "streaks happen" series is designed to be sure that a streak didn't happen and that a person is truly ready to move on based simply on their own skills not luck or circumstance. Prevent DQ in series games is a perfect way to be sure that A (singular) person is truly ready to move on based simply on their own skills not luck or circumstance.

Lastly is people who complain that DQ will taint the people in series regardless because players will be in a high ELO will be competing against you and you can't counter with a high ELO player of your own. Once again there are some flaws in this argument. There will always be teams. There will always be misplaced people. There will always be matches where you have an enemy carry their team no matter how hard you try or how good you are. This is not actually an issue because it is totally reasonable for players to drastically outclass you every now and again to test your ability to handle that just as much as the occasion presence of trash players tests your ability to compensate. It is part of the game and requires you to step up. The inability to step up in the face of unfortunate situations is not an excuse to prevent grouping.

I hope by now you read everything above and have come to a conclusion of your own that makes sense and HOPEFULLY you agree. Feel free to voice your opinion, ask questions, tell me why I am wrong, or suggest improvements. I will do my best to answer, rebut, or help anyone who wants to make sure our favorite game stay fun and playable regardless of the lack of respect from others.

Riots not looking for a solution. They found a solution to generate more revenue and that was through dynamic queue.

Well, DQ may make money but there is a solution to keep DQ and get rid of boosting. Boosting doesn't get Riot money it only drive away the playerbase

You overlooked the solution completely because you focused only on half of the problem.

Boosting is a problem for high elo players, but it has a mirror plague which is even more common: Smurfing.

Both have been problems long before Dynamic Queue came out. I highly doubt that boosting services have changed all that much in how they do business (you can work faster if you're not held back by the person wanting to be boosted), so people attacking Dynamic Queue as a way to boost others are targeting players playing with their friends. The thing is, there's already a system in place to gate that, you can only queue with someone one tier above/below you. All parties involved would climb at comparable rates, so it'd be about a 5 division span (B5 and S5, not B5 and S1). There's only so much you can do if all involved are at their proper rank.

That's where smurfs come in. It's impossible for these Bronze/Silver players to get to Platinum/Diamond by playing with people who have been playing ranked in their main account. They need to be playing on Smurfs to boost this person. Even if a smurf isn't boosting someone it's ruining the games of other players that are at that Elo as it climbs or trolls (because who cares, it's just their smurf).

TL;DR: smurfing is the source of all evil, not Dynamic Queue itself.

Yes but this solution takes away the reward for smurfing. Do you see that? If people can't actually get higher ranks from being carried through their series games then the motivation to smurf is gone. Poof. Sure you can argue people will carry to the series, but what is the point of that? It should squish the desire to boost as a whole and therefore smurfing as well

It doesn't take away enough rewards for smurfing.

The rewards for smurfing are:

  • Playing if your main is banned/low priority
  • Stomping weaker players
  • Trolling with minimal care for the punishments
  • Practicing a champion before taking it on your main
  • Proving you can climb out of "elo hell"
  • Playing with/boosting a friend of lower rank

Your proposed solution takes care of half of one point, leaving at least five open (some would argue collecting all the champions or Victorious skins is another reason).

well how does one stop smurfing then?

There's no magic bullet to stop smurfing, since it exists for so many different reasons.

  • Linking to your main will only appeal to a small percentage of smurfs, no matter what rewards you tie to it, and could be abused for those same rewards.
  • Forcing a unique email for each account is a step slightly closer, but in the end just makes an extra step to make the account.
  • A handicap feature could be useful for some would-be-smurfs, letting them play with their new player friends at a handicap rather than forcing them to make a new account or have their friends be stomped because the older player drags the MMR up too high.
  • There could maybe be some sort of normal system that tries to do what "I'm new at this champion" from Teambuilder did, but pulling its data from all queues. I remember playing with/against a few Yasuos several months ago that were on smurfs destroying lower ranked games as an alternative to playing against bots to learn the champ...

The one that I think would be most interesting to try (although possibly very disruptive) is the handicap. Lower a champions damage output, lower their defenses, lower their gold gains, etc. could be ways to set an experienced player back in a way that makes it more fair for them to play with their new/lower elo friends. If they're playing with their main accounts in this way, then there's a lower chance of them creating a smurf to bypass the ranked restriction.
