I am actually the person from Twitter that Rick replied to. That's the problem with new players that never got to play old Karma, they didn't get to play old Karma. Besides Karma's old passive, I feel like with some fine tuning Karma's old kit could have been really great for the game. There are a lot of things the Development team 5 years ago never should have removed. The blame is now on this current Development team that continues to make the same mistakes and not listen to the community.
The entire community, not just Karma mains, were upset with just the removal of Karma's fans. When approached about the backlash for the removal of her fans, the Developers said they would think more carefully about what is taken away from champions when reworked or VGU. Here we are in 2018 and they made the same mistakes and they didn't rectify those mistakes until there was a public outcry. I've been very vocal the past couple years about Karma and I've had heated discussions with both Meddler and Reav3s. They just simply don't care enough to talk about what needs to be talked about and what actually needs to be worked on. People can say whatever they want to say about the Development team. Do I feel like the Development team is passionate about their game and characters? Yes, but not Karma. I don't have anymore faith in their ability to give Karma the work she needs.
If the rework is not going to address the following, then it actually isn't progress being made on her:
- Bringing back her fans and scraping the idea of the mantle or giving Karma an actual identity. They don't even have to bring back her fans. The art team just needs to work on what was always considered, by them, to be a better identity for Karma: a floating dish-plate.
- Completed art assets that have a running and shield casting animation.
- Decide who and what Karma is. She cannot be a support/battlemage/artillery mage/tank thing. Karma needs a clear identity and a kit that revolves around that. Simply buffing her shields into oblivion is not the answer since no one likes playing against that or as it.
- Karma's old kit brought back. She needs a new passive, shield bomb, her old Q and Mantra Q and old E and Mantra E back. The W can come back or be completely re-imagined as something else.
The current kit is just not working, the identity is all over the place, and her art assets and identity is a mess. The relaunch Karma received didn't solve a problem. It created problems and the Development team had 5 years to do anything and they didn't. Do I think Ricklessabandon is going to do a good job on Karma? No I don't because he is not even going to come close to touching the problems. Karma's entire relaunch 5 years ago is a mess and it has been a mess for 5 years now. There are no excuses anymore and there are no more expectations other than get something done. Karma is a never-ending WIP champion by Riot Games standards. It is what it is and you just have to expect the unexpected with Karma at this point. The rework is either going to be very bad or very good. There is no in-between for Karma right now because she is already there and has been for 5 years now. This is a make or break situation for Riot Games in terms of work being done on Karma. They failed at it 5 years ago and all the work they have done on her for 5 years now has been a WIP and that includes her art assets and lore.
