I want to talk about the Athene's Unholy Grail changes

Here are the changes to item 3174 : Gives 40AP and 40MR Passive: Grants a large portion of health regeneration if your health % lower than your mana %. Grants a large portion of mana regeneration if your mana % is lower than your health %. Passive: Gain a portion of damage dealt to champions as blood charges. Healing or shielding another ally consumes blood charges to heal them for the amount stored. . . Honestly, these new changes could have been to another item that really needs this rework instead. That item is item 3222 since it already heals as part of its active. Changing its heal from being an active to being a passive would benefit more than item 3174 would. As for the active, I think it should be reduced down to 120 seconds instead of the long cool down of 180 seconds. With 40 ap and 40 mr as its new base stats along with the heal as the passive and the cc removed as an active would make this as solid buy for supports.

Maybe don't keep the active as it may be too good, but my main point being, let item 3222 have this rework/change instead of item 3174 as it would benefit more from it.

As for item 3174, I think changing the 100% mana regen should be changed to 400 mana and allow it to keep the two passives it currently has so mages outside of support still have a source for mana regen outside of item 3092 because we all know that it will become popular due to the lack of mana regeneration be available.

What are your thoughts on this idea?

Oh so they made Athene a support item now?

And I thought mid lane would have one decent mana regen item lol

i like the changes on item 3174 , as its current version is a garbage item i never buy.

item 3222 could use some love too, like being built from item 3140 .

More than anything Mikael's just needs a complete build path rework. The active is the only defining aspect of the item and everything else is just random nonsense attached to it. The MR isn't valuable, the mana regen is beyond redundant (150% is not needed...) and the CDR is, for supports, irrelevant.

Mikael's active and the Chalice passive carry it as an item, but its stats need to feel a bit more than worthless so it feels like a satisfying and not entirely selfless pickup. They need to fit AP somewhere in the build and take out the ludicrous excess of mana regen.

My impression is that they are changing Athenes into a support item; the AP nerf and cuts to the mana regen makes it much less appealing to mages, outside a very select few in specific situations. On the other hand, the mana regen works really well combined with other sources of regen, like FQC. They even cut the cost significantly, making the item more accessible to supports. Supports will get chalice and generally build into Athenes, but if there is a major concern with CC, then they would build Mikael's instead.

Mages, on the other hand, will go for mana builds, like RoA/Morellos/Tear

Mikael's definitely does not need a rework. It's a very strong item in the right situations that requires a lot of skill and game knowledge to use effectively.
