Question for Support Mains

  • How boring is it to support farm-heavy ADCs?
  • How difficult is it to support farm-heavy ADCs?
  • Do you prefer to support the late game scalers or early game ham?
  • Why is this?

Really curious to see what the consensus view. I've had supports that like both, and it seems very polarized. Either my support really likes to fight, or really wants to be safe.

I like having an ADC that blends with me. Doesn't matter about scaling because I look to the team in that sense. I like adcs that match aggression and know the matchups. When you are vayne/nami and they want to go full aggressive against the enemy Graves/Leona I have an issue. That matchup needs time to ramp up before you take it aggressive or a massive misplay by the enemy. The same is the opposite if I have a graves that plays super passive against the same lane as leona it frustrates me.

Personally I try to tailor my support pick to what the adc picks. I usually get early kills in bot lane when I support because I've learned how to support really well for my elo (been as high as Plat being almost dedicated support main). I see many times that players don't play the matchups right or know their spikes.

Also I'm not supporting a late/early game scaling champ, but the whole team. I need to be everywhere helping. I don't just peel for the adc, but the team and I shouldn't be the only one peeling. I keep the mid lane viktor alive as well as help engage with the top lane maokai. I'm ganking for the viktor to get him rolling when there is nothing bot for me or after we get tower.

TLDR: I support the team and not just the adc. Its less about the scaling, but more about the adc knowing how to play matchups

I'm okay with farm-heavy ADCs. That means I don't have to worry about going all-in, and just worry about making sure the ADC survives. But then that's because I'm Soraka main. My support playstyle is usually poke/sustain. I don't really like playing all-in supports.

It depends on the matchup. If it's not too dangerous of an opponent (either by their pick or by how they're playing) I go crazy aggressive in poking them, sometimes to the point of zoning both of them by myself, which allows my ADC to sit back and farm all he wants.

If the enemy is both aggressive and dangerous (like a Thresh/Jinx that can easily lock me down if I'm not careful) then I'm more likely to sit back. It generally isn't difficult. It'll get boring if there's no action for too long but it's fine as long as we're gaining an advantage for it.

I have no preference as long as the two of us are on the same page.

I'm going to agree with 50 here.

As a Sona main I'm okay with farm heavy ADCs, expecially those that can sit by themselves for a minute when I need to assist other lanes or help the jungler with dragon/invades. Different ADCs have different support difficulty, so those that are less bitchy normally have a better support as we aim to help our ADCs, and if our pokes take a creep or two every two waves oh well we kept you alive to get the other creeps so don't complain. Early vs Late is situational. Like as Soraka or Lux or Sona is depends on what skill I start with and if I think my ADC can handle going in early or needs to wait for lv 2-3. Personally I like waiting till at least 2 to do any all in's as that's when I normally have my Q/W (Soraka/Sona) or Q/E (Lux) and have more of a chance of at least forcing the other ADC out of lane if not killing them.

Why? All of this is personal preference, and most things are when it comes to someone's play style. My play style for instance I take Clarity on my AP supports as they use more mana and I'm a lot pokier with them as they have the ability to poke from a distance (and it's good for baiting if I have stun/snare).

ok so i feel like i have figured this out into what is actually viable

let me start by saying i play aggressive literally 95% of the time.

How boring is it to support farm-heavy ADCs?----- I personally believe there arent adcs that cant do well early with the correct support. But it is hard to stay back when needed to.

How difficult is it to support farm-heavy ADCs?-- Much easier, especially if you know that your adc is going passive. Picking Alistar Leona Nautilus makes this a cake walk. But again can you depend on your team to carry early?

Do you prefer to support the late game scalers or early game ham?-- Sounding redundant here but with the snowballing mechanics of the game the early game champs will win a large portion of the time.

I play Morgana Blitzcrank Leona as i feel these are the only agressive supports really needed to counter any pick, and lets hypothesize that we are playing solo que

1st: How does my adc respond to my first two lockdowns/pulls/all ins. Slow/no response usually leads to a passive lane. 2nd: Is bot lane playing champs designed for early kills or late game scaling? If we are playing corki/leona then an early kill is a must. But again late game scalers still do best with early kills.... 3rd: Despite your best efforts are you missing your skillshots/pulls/binds/all ins due to dodging or minion camping? Passive Lane 4th: Despite your best efforts are you losing the lane/getting killed early? Again leads to passive lane.

Nothing wins a game with more authority than early game kills no matter what people tell you about turrets/objectives. This game is mental, and securing 2 pre 5 minute kills usually ends with a win.

tldr: early game kills is the easiest way to secure a victory

Personally, I think support is one of the funnest roles in the game. Getting to harass the enemy early is always fun. It doesn't matter to me if the ADC is passive or aggressive. I will still harass, I just won't go all in if my ADC is passive. Once you get your ADC ahead or in a good spot, you get to roam the map, helping gank other lanes, dropping wards to set up ganks, etc.

Just pick supports that match your playstyle and you will have success.

I asked because usually when I'm Twitch, I like to be passive. I will poke, I'll trade, and if you land a good opportunity I'll go in on it, but I don't really want to commit to a 2v2 until a bit later into the game unless we have a considerable advantage. In a perfect world, I just want to CS, because I outscale almost everyone.

If I'm Graves, I want to go in every chance it's safe and advantageous to do so. I'll be poking heavily, and trying to deny CS as hard as possible while staying safe and CSing myself.

That being said, that isn't always how it works out, and I'm not always on the same page. I was curious if it was just boring to support a passive lane.
