Nah, he just really hurts a lot of mages that can't out reach him. I typically ban him when I go mid, but if I wee to face him, a stopwatch into Hourglass makes a world of difference.

I won lane against him and they surrendered early
You try to win lane against someone with no mana who spams his 300 damage Q at level 6 and 100-0s you with 0 counterplay if he gets one kill

A couple of problems with this.

A. Zed is not broken-- for the past season, he's been the most balanced assassin of them all. His position in pre-season is invalid, as is everyone else's. I'll explain why in my next point.

B. You can't even talk about balance during pre-season. Nothing is officially "broken" like Twitch/Janna were a couple of months ago, because nothing has been set in stone. These aren't the exact numbers that all the champions and runes are gonna run with when Season 8 actually starts. Pre-Season is meant for change. If Zed's Q damage is a bit too high, they'll tweak the numbers where necessary.

C. He has always been popular. Faker, Bjergsen, Apdo, etc. They are the infamous gods of Zed who popularized him. The fact that people have been banning others allow for Zed to slip through when and where he can.
