Janna's Passive and W are outdated. Here are some ideas to give her more room for skill expression.

So, we all know and love Janna as League's premiere peel support, but her passive and W abilities in particular leave something to be desired. The two are mostly invisible effects that aren't very appreciable for the minute amounts of power they bring, not to mention they don't add a lot of depth to Janna's theme or mechanics. Here are some minor rework ideas to help address the issues Tailwind and Zephyr present.

Passive - Tailwind: While moving, Janna leaves behind a wind trail that persists for several seconds. Allies who move through the trail gain +5% movement speed, gradually scaling upwards to 15% if they remain on its path.

Goals behind this change:

  • Make Janna's passive more skillful, encouraging both her and her allies to play around their pathing and positioning
  • Provide clarity to Janna's passive in favor of shedding its fairly unnoticeable power
  • Make Janna's passive more exciting and thematic

Now for a much more ambitious idea (open to criticism here, as I know this would be the most contentious change):

W - Zephyr: Passive - Continuous movement grants Janna stacks of Zephyr. Active - At 100 stacks, Janna can activate Zephyr to take the form of a bluebird, gaining increased movement speed and the ability to move through units while doubling the movement speed bonus of Tailwind and causing it to briefly slow enemies who enter the trail. Casting abilities while in this form will end Zephyr. Lasts until canceled. Cooldown: 45s.

Goals:

  • Introduce counterplay to Janna's slow effect (enemies can sidestep it rather than just being arbitrarily point-and-clicked)
  • Double down on Janna's niche as the speedy peeling support
  • Provide clearer moments of power to Janna's kit
  • Connect her lore to her gameplay

TL;DR:

  • Janna's passive is now a trail of wind that she leaves behind whenever she moves. Allies who walk through it gradually move faster.
  • Janna's W now passively rewards her for moving. Activate to summoner 6 Janna, double the movement speed bonus of her passive, and temporarily slow those who walk through the trail. Large cooldown.

All feedback is appreciated, though do try to keep it polite please, as what may sound like a stupid or silly idea to you might actually be an awesome idea to someone else.

I'm usually pretty wary about suggested changes to Janna, but honestly this seems like it would be a lot of fun to play around with. It'd certainly make her a bit more interactive, and I like that it keeps her general speediness intact.

Glad to hear your take. I do like the idea of a more interactive Janna, and think her kit has a lot of potential within the thematic. I wish those who've downvoted the thread would talk about why they don't like the proposed changes though, just so I can pick at their brains a bit about what they don't like/what could be better.

I am not a support main but here's my two cents. Janna is a very unique support that can directly boost allies damage. Is there any other support that can do this? This is what separates her from the other supports. However I do think your idea is a better more lore inspired kit for her.

Nami and Lulu can both do this as well. Nami's E makes her target's next 3 autos do bonus magic damage, and Lulu's W raises her target's attack speed if cast on an ally.
