Heartseeker Quinn Feedback Thread

Valor Bot·12/6/2016, 9:14:15 PM·88 votes·93,747 views

So, before anything else, I just want to say thank you, Riot, for giving our Quinn and Valor a lovely new skin (pun not intended). <3

Moving onto the feedback...

1. My first point of criticism with the new skin is that Valor is based off a dove but looks a lot more like a cockatoo right now in terms of head and body shape:

http://i.imgur.com/ry6Jve6.jpg"

I know Valor's default model is quite long and narrow since he's an eagle, which can make remodeling him into a round bird like a dove quite difficult. However, maybe if you guys used Woad Scout Valor's model as a reference for the new Heartseeker Valor, it could help achieve that plump-bodied dove appearance?

http://imgur.com/eAjZxk4

Woad Scout Valor has a much more round and compact model as shown above, which I think would suit Heartseeker Valor better.

2. In every one of Quinn's skins, Valor has a set of armor to match Quinn's. It's their running theme, kind of like Ahri has whiskers in every one of her skins regardless of thematic. Unfortunately Valor seems to be missing matching armor in this skin -- maybe a Valentine-themed carrier bag or scarf/ribbon of some kind would be suitable? :D

3. Quinn's particle effects need some polish, namely:

  • Her auto attack particles, which just use a recolored version of her base skin's AAs instead of using the heart-tipped arrows shown on her crossbow's model
  • Vault, whose particles have black and white lines that don't seem to fit the skin
  • Skystrike, which also uses a recolored version of Quinn's base AAs instead of the heart-tipped arrows shown on her model

4. Quinn's weapon looks like a child's toy. Heartseeker Varus's weapon, for example, looks far more functional and sophisticated than Quinn's weapon, which looks like it's made of plastic due to the light yellow and pink colors used for its texture as well as the quality of the crossbow's model.

5. Valor uses his default squawk sound effects for /joke instead of using his new dove calls. Probably needs new sounds or he could also use the ones from Quinn's W.

That's all the feedback I have for now, feel free to use this thread for any other comments on Heartseeker Quinn.

TL;DR of all player feedback received thus far:

  • Quinn and Valor look too bare, as if their models are unfinished. Giving them additional armor (i.e. a shoulder guard or perhaps a scarf) would make the two look like a more complete and cohesive pair. Heck, even extending the white wings on Quinn's back so that they become a cape could possibly do the trick.

  • The skin is too bright pink all around, making it look a lot more like a Star Guardian skin than Heartseeker. Deepening the pink or perhaps replacing it with red and gold in some areas would give the skin more color diversity. Maybe even adding some brown like Heartseeker Varus?!

  • Quinn's idle animation does not suit her new Heartseeker visuals. Perhaps a more upright or elegant idle stance would do the trick (which would definitely justify a price raise).

  • Valor looks too much like a cockatoo even though he's supposed to be a dove.

  • Quinn's basic attack and Skystrike arrows do not match the heart-tipped arrows shown on her crossbow or quiver.

UPDATE: Riot's been listening, and changes are coming! :D Thanks to everyone who helped pitch in and gave constructive feedback!

EDIT: Now that the final touches are being made to Heartseeker Quinn, I just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone here for pitching in their feedback along with me, especially those who remained polite and objective the whole way through. Quinn is definitely an underrated Champ, but I'm happy to see she's got such a dedicated and passionate fanbase at her back. Also many thanks to Riot KateyKhaos and her team for patiently listening to us and taking action in response to our feedback. It's been a pleasure taking part in this with all of you guys ^_^

Hey everyone!

First off - I really appreciate you making this post, and for everyone for popping into this thread and leaving feedback. I wanted to drop in and give you an update on what the team has planned, based on feedback given.

We went through a bunch of your feedback, both on the PBE, live boards, Twitter, etc. I wanted to keep everyone in the loop in terms of what we'd like to change to accommodate address player feedback!

  • We're adding tights - same color as the majority of her thigh high stockings (blue/purple), since she is in a skirt!
  • We're hiding a bit more of her cleavage.
  • We're darkening her color palette to be more in line with the other Heartseeker skins.
  • We're looking to adjust her skirt to make it a bit longer/more appropriate, due to her base stance.
  • We may puff up her hair (minor change) to make it a bit fuller.
  • Adjusting her AAs to match the arrow shows on her crossbow (this was actually a bug, and the particles hadn't been updated yet).

We really appreciate you all taking the time to leave detailed feedback. We do read through all of it, and because of you, we're able to adjust skins and really push them to be the best they can be. ^-^

Thanks again! <3

Heartseeker Quinn reminds me more of a Star Guardian than an actual Heartseeker lol. Also agreed, the bird looks way more like a pink cockatiel than a dove.

Someone on the quinn mains discord said it perfectly, that she might as well be trying to cosplay star guardian Jinx.

When we look at every other Quinn skin, we see a champion who is not sexualized in any way, but still finds a way to be striking. I think this skin goes against that in many aspects.

Her base skin is fully clothed with armor. Phoenix is fully clothed with armor. Woad Scout, some skin showing but its very overshadowed by her cloak and scarf-type piece (not sure the name) Corsair is fully clothed, a little skin showing in the splash art but its overshadowed by her orange scarf piece/shoulder armor. and not overbearing in any way

In every single one of the skins there has been a clear attempt to keep Quinn outside the typical sexualized archetype, and thats a big reason why I like quinn so much. She doesn't have to be that way and look like that to appeal to people.

I think one of the ways to fix this skin is to give her a 80% or 90% skin coverage. Maybe some mid riff like in Woad Scout, or if you are that intent on showing cleavage, put a little cleavage window in the shape of a heart (assuming the rest of her body is covered akin to phoenix or base), but have something that overshadows that window like how Corsair has a scarf that makers her cleavage not obvious.

minor edit: some more color besides pink would be nice, much like how Vayne has alot of red in her's instead would be preferable to a large degree second edit: I think its rather disappointing to see that we have 2 champions get a HS skin this year, both of which have never been sexualized, and have been in the league scene for roughly the same amount of time. While Lucian continues that trend into this skin line, Quinn throws away 3 years of it. Rito please.

TL;DR- Less/no sexualization of our champion that has never been portrayed that way.

But before I begin, let me just say that yes I am female and it pains me to see violations of basic fashion sense, which is what I will rant about.

My biggest complaint is honestly the hair and chest region. I find that the completely bare chest and off-the-shoulder sleeve is a bit...awkward. Yes, the skin is imitating the sweetheart neckline which is charming and characteristic of the other skins, but it seems like the whole chest area is very very bland. Also, it is kind of a sin in fashion to leave that area "naked". Someone obviously knew that and painted a cheap ass necklace to cover it. However, the pink updo anime thing on the head of Quinn is shit. I have definitely noticed the influence of anime seeping into the recent skins, and I'm not just talking about the Star Guardians. The bubble gum hair and eyeliner only on the top lip of the eye is very very anime, along with the smoothing out of facial features. I don't want to see that in this skin, some of us don't like the very cartoony style that anime brings, forgive me I am biased towards it.

The chest area is also awkardly shaped in the image I pasted above, hopefully it shows up in the forum.

If we wanted to fix this problem, I would take the hair and turn it white and perhaps make it a side-swept braid or rolling curls to fit with Ashe. Ashe has one of the best if not the best heartseeker skin. With the new sideswept hair, a lot of the negative space from a white chest will be covered and a better made choker of a heart could be put on. I posted a link to the idea I am presenting.

Next, the color scheme is fucked up. Now the only problem that I have with the leg area is really those grey shoes. Perhaps red or making them purple like Ashe's would make the area look less unfinished. The bodice area looks like somebody right-clicked with the paint bucket on accident. Perhaps we should mimic the other skin in the line and turn the white to the purple, and then the purple lining underneath the breast area should be the same color as the breast area, which would match the circle skirt better if it were red as well. Either way, the skirt and breast area need to match. If the skin feels like their is an abundance of purple, don't forget the gold trim around the tail of the bodice. After all, we actually want to see that she has white wings that aren't part of her clothes.

If I was decent with photoshop, I would just draw the fix myself, but I suck with it. I hope these are good ideas, because this skin is bad at the moment. Also, Varian Wrynn has entered Summoner's Right in the form of Garen! https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u_8hN_MAl3A/WEcuBP-KxtI/AAAAAAAAZpY/LALclOyqYGUxcZJm7VJw959IvZU8buI6wCLcB/s1600/garenrtecall.jpg

RüdigersKapriole12/6/2016, 9:26:11 PM19 votes

It just doesn't fit Quinn in my honest opinion, and Val looks weirdly bad. I could go on criticising the reasoning behind making this kinda skin for Quinn, yet I'll leave that out since Riot isn't known for makin some sense.

What I dislike the most about it is the colors used. They arent horrible colors, none are. But they don't seem to fit each other and the rest of the skin line. It's mostly been a very red focused type of skin for each champ, and we haaaave some bright pink, white and darker pink which makes the armplates look like plastic to me tbh..

Also, maybe go fix some of the easy to recreate gamebreaking bugs (cancelling R instantly cause your last command before pressing R was an autoattack even though you right clicked a thousand times while channelling - or something more annoying and game-losing: getting stuck in a wall cause you used E) before making a pretty meh and not really fitting skin. It's almost either you love it or hate it entirely, depending on weeb level as far as it seems.

Simply Nora12/6/2016, 10:07:20 PM19 votes

I think her stance needs to be changed. The skin is so feminine yet she is standing weird, it doesn't fit. Her color scheme should be looked at too. Should have some RED in there, similar to Vayne's skin.

HoIo12/6/2016, 9:18:36 PM17 votes

Heartseeker Quinn looks more like a rejected Star Guardian skin to me. Also, Quinn's battle stance doesn't really fit this Heartseeker outfit. Make her outfit more modest.

Seasons12/7/2016, 12:41:39 AM15 votes

As a lot of other people have said this skin just doesn't fit Quinn's style. If it were made a little more "modest" and more colours like heart seeker Varus, it'd go over fairly well. And they messed up the hair again like they did Woadscout... Just do medium hair + bangs. I think i'm not the only one who thought this was the last skin most Quinn players wanted (Rather have Project Quinn, PenQuinn, or Flight Attendant Quinn)

I hope they take this thread's feedback into account and fix it up a bit. TL;DR Fix the lux-outift copy & fix the hair, no bun pls.

The tights added in look terrible

The heartseeker theme? Yeah that fits Quinn.

What she's wearing? Nope. I don't mind showing off skin and stuff, but it just looks so... plain and unfinished. Even a few tattoos would be great.

Though your concerns are pretty much summed up.

deceptopus12/7/2016, 9:20:44 AM11 votes

I find it hilarious that everyone's blowing a gasket over her outfit, and no a one mentions the real problem of her model's god awful anatomy. No outfit will ever look good on her stretched out, hunched over, ghoulish figure. I can't believe people are somehow surprised that she looks nothing like quinn in this skin either. Every single skin for her has drastically changed her hair and facial features beyond recognition. They aren't even consistent with each other either. Quinn needs a complete VGU more than any skin to fix the all problems with her kit, character identity, model, and rigging.

Gaston du Coteau12/7/2016, 11:38:27 PM10 votes

Oh look, any comments criticizing the absurd demands to censor an already tame skin, and calling out Riot on their pandering, get promptly deleted.

No wonder this thread is one sided, it's not a conversation at all. It's "we're right, look at all these posts and ignore the ones disappearing".

Grow up Riot, precisely as that last guy said, it's not Victorian era England, spend your time making actual skin improvements instead of continuing your trend of censorship just because someone somewhere some way might somehow be offended. Your skewed perception of what "appropriate" is doesn't match 99% of western society, and you're definitely losing sales doing this.

NTG Death12/8/2016, 1:43:10 PM10 votes

Seeing everyone's opinions here and on our subreddit, I totally agree that the most correct decision is to push the skin back and bring it back when it is according to what people like or simply scratch it and give Quinn another theme.

Here's the subreddit link regarding our opinions on the changes: "https://www.reddit.com/r/QuinnMains/comments/5h4wsl/heartseeker_quinn_model_changes_coming_tomorrow/"

Everyone diverges a bit but everyone agrees no one likes the skin as it currently stands. Fixing all of these major "bad things" would not be worth it, so I wouldn't mind if the skin went back and got fully reworked/scratched so Quinn could get a decently good skin after 1 and a half year.

Ars Arcánum12/6/2016, 10:41:42 PM10 votes

I feel like they didn't really care and just wanted to make Valor a dove (or whatever that is). She's clearly wearing a slightly changed Jinx Star Guardian outfit.

I feel like a dove would have been dope on Arclight Quinn. It's whatever though; I personally don't like this skin.

Storn Saroe12/8/2016, 11:29:55 AM9 votes

To be completely honest in my opinion the changes are worse than the original.

The darker pinks looks good and the reduced bust is fine but the purple hair seems out of place with all the pinks that for some reason I find it difficult to look at (it is also like she is trying to hard to be HS Ashe), furthermore having the stockings and tights at the same time looks silly.

The biggest issue with the original was the idle pose + skirt/outfit combination so what I would do is change her idle!! It is the root of all the problems with the model, if not turn the skirt into a half skirt as well as give her shorts rather than tights. I'd also turn her hair to a more natural colour like brown (I actually really liked the pink as it looked nice and was more unique although I understand the need to have it more defined in game).

I do love Quinn as the demure badass character she is however I am definitely not opposed to having a more girly skin. The problem is the anime high school thing doesn't work that well for her especially with that idle, it also draws too close to the recent star guardian skins (especially jinx with those dark leggings). She can still pull off being 'sexy' whilst maintaining her theme she just needs to be presented as a little bit more elegant.
