For a game that is ruined it seems like Riot has done a good job making people want to keep playing

Akali is SO HOT··32 votes·9,176 views

Nothing but complaints on boards about how the game is dead and how you hate the game, but then I check your profile and many of you still play it just as much as someone who enjoys the game. You'd think that people who complain and complain nonstop about how a game is dead or awful would stop playing, but I guess not.

Video game addiction is a real thing

Correction. When I enjoyed the game, I played far more than I do now.

It's not League of Legends fault that it's gotten worse, I still like the product. There's just so many bone headed changes, and that signifies a large scale problem within the team.

Many who complain don't want the game to die, don't want the game to be in the state it is and want it to be amazing. Because they don't want to quit and want to play a game more akin to when they started. The game they fell in love with

except that all they want is things that would just make the game truly die. They all complain like they know everything, and they would do everything so much better. Then they come and bring stuff from all the past that everyone used to complain and hate and bring it like it was the best thing to exist in the game. If people here actually wanted the game to be better they wouldn't want champions to be gutted but balanced, they wouldn't let their dumb nostalgia cloud their judgement. All people here want is to whine and complain about everything while offering the most dumbfounding "solutions" ever and when someone points this out or offer actual solutions that they don't agree with? they just downvote them to oblivion and refuse to even acknowledge the flaws in their "solutions". If you truly hate the game so much at some point all you are doing is harming yourself and the very game you so "love" by constantly whining and offering dumb things that no company in the planet would take seriously. Nobody here wants to acknowledge when Riot actually does something right, they just go to the next thing to whine and complain. People here just act like entitled brats more often than not.

Bringing the game back to a state similar season 3/4 wouldn't kill the game

chipndip15 votes

Case in point: League is popular because it changes. Staying in the same meta forever would make League like DotA, and then people would get bored and move on. You guys act like Season 3 and 4 were absolutely amazing, but be honest when the real reason you guys do this is due to nostalgia and people being significantly worse at the game in the earlier years.

GripaAviara5 votes

It's not really about change, it's about the feeling that needs to stay somewhat the same.

People, myself included came to LoL because it offered more flexibility than other MOBAS. You had atts AP damages, you had AD mages, etc. And the same champion could be all of them based on build. On top of that flexibility there was the actual strategy of the game: vision, objectives, etc.

Now this all changed in favor of a faster paced game. Here is where the main complains the forum lie.

chipndip11 votes

You can do what-the-fuck-ever you want. People aren't dumb enough to get ran by AP Shyvanna, but you can try if you want to. No one's stopping you.

I play Lux bot lane every now and again. It works well enough for a normal game. You don't see me complaining, either. Your issue is that you guys think "off-meta" should just work by virtue of being goofy when you don't think beyond your gimmick. You guys don't know HOW to play off-meta for an off-meta strat to work.

GripaAviara2 votes

You're telling this to an ADC Ahri main :/

Doesn't matter you play lux in normals, i'm talking about ranked obviously. I can sit in base in normal or go trio jungle, it's normal

chipndip11 votes

You're basically the elo of any random person in a normal game, so the point applies.

No I left because Ghostcrawler joined the dev team and I saw the writting on the wall. I re-installed after years away just because I knew I'd have a week or 2 where I had to burn some time, just to see how things went. With Atlas Reactor dead (a good game that actually required skill), I needed something else to play.

I was right. The game is an utter sht show compared to S3/S4. There's zero counter play, carries with just 3-4 kills ahead are running around deleteing people. I've seen 1... 1 single game where the team ahead by 5 kills didn't win since re-installing. That's nearly 100 games or so and 1 made a 'come-back'.

The level of gameplay is abysmal. People can't land skill shots, can't dodge them, there's zero communication, zero teamwork. You don't see stacking of abilities, or coordination, just 100 fed Yasuos running around 4v1ing everyone; because why not when you're playing god-mode.

I watch a 4.4k Mundo die in less than 3 frames, a Graves 100-0 a Rammus in less than 0.5s, a Kayne 5v1 and take out 4 people. Pykes diving towers at level 2 (and easily surviving), Akali's that are basically uncounterable. The whole thing is this fcked up mess of unbelievably unbalanced proportions.

And then we get to e-sports. A game with zero strategy, technical prowess, or tactics is supposedly 'esport' worthy? The whole point of DOTA and transitively league was to cater to poor players who couldn't handle 3 heros and an army, and needed and AI to handle most of it for them. Its like watching race walking in the Olympics... sure there's a winner but who cares?

Every game was the same champs in the same positions, using the same items and the same strategy. To differ even remotely from the meta was insta-loss on either side. Strategy and tactics?? Are you kidding me? 90% of the champions aren't even used. But don't worry, you'll see a Zed in every 2nd game...

Then we get to the wonderfully toxic community, where unless you're a carry everything is your fault. Want to play support or jungle, be prepared for EVERYTHING to be your fault. What fun it is to be blamed for everyone's failure. Do well as support and you're 'stealing kills' from the idiot ADC that can't dodge a skill shot to save his life. Best of all, even when you do amazing in support, it has no meaningful outcome on the game, you're not a carry so you don't matter. You won't get honor, no one will care, but the 12/9 yi that managed to find his Q while everyone was stunned, he'll get the honor, the kills, the items, and all the goodies. And they wonder why no one wants to play support. Have you even actually tried to /fill, every single game is support or jungle. Not once did I get anything else. I think the most memorable part was knowing that every single carry can insta-kill you with zero chance of escape or counter-play, no matter how bad or low hp they are, 1v1. You can't even run with a well played CC, every carry now has multiple closers and nearly every dmg item having movement speed. Unless your flash is up, you're dead. Even if you land every skill shot/CC perfectly, they'll still just walk up, right click and you get delete'd, have fun warding!!! Its your job to ward but to move more than inches away from your team and your insta-dead!!! OH WHAT FUN!!! I mean really, who thought that the least mobile and squishiest champs in the game, the ones with the least cash and least escape options, they should be the ones wandering around trying to drop wards in dangerous spots...

I know its all just a cash grab... I just don't understand... do people really not see how bad it is? If I were to teach a course on game design I'd use LOL as the quintessential example of what not to do. And then on top of all that we have Gameplay and Gameplay+ forums on the boards? Are you kidding me? Like that's a joke right? I hate to bring up Godwin's law, but it'd be like the Nazi's having a "compassion, caring, and empathy for other's" forum.

The only reason I've played it even for the last 2 weeks at all is simply out of pure morbid curiosity. I am completely baffled how anyone can find anything good to say about it, or find any enjoyment in it. I'm far more curious as to why people are playing it than any 'entertainment' value it might have to offer. And honestly for the life of me cannot understand why. This ranks up there with The Kardashians, Jerry Springer, Reality TV, Flappy Bird, and the Transformers movies; in the list of things I just truly do not understand why they even exist let alone are successful.

I'm certain this will get downvoted, then delete'd, and my account banned. I don't really care. I'm not angry, really I'm not, and I don't care about winning or losing games. I'm just completely and utterly baffled.

chipndip11 votes

Yeah, like I said: Nostalgia goggles on way too tight. Can't reason with it.

"Oh everything's worse because everything's worse." What do you expect anyone to say to you when you're so stuck in this mindset? You should head back to Atlas Reactor.

Kaisha1 votes

"You should head back to Atlas Reactor." - Oh I wish I could. I won so many games with a well timed Rampart ult or grip. Countering a Pup or Kaigan ult was pure bliss. You should try it... but it is brutal on beginners. No snowball, no RNG, all strategy.

chipndip11 votes

You say that like any other competitive game doesn't require proper timing and utilization of tools. And if the game's dead, it probably isn't nearly as good as you're hyping it to be.

Yikes lemme toss my 2 cents into this

Legit seasons 1-4 I had some of the worst experiences in my entire video game life (I was 10 when season 1 was out)

If your saying that these last seasons are a shitshow compared to the past. Nice joke

Cash grab? In a free to play game. The only things you can get with Rp are cosmetics, keys, and champs if you’re really impatient (like me). Legit you can play the game without spending a single dime.

Legit you complain that damage is too high yet I still win games the same way i’ve Been doing for the last 8 years.

Toxic community. Not wrong there lol

To finish this up. Nice joke had a good laugh reading this

But there are also real gems in these forums in terms of tangible simple solutions. Posts the community should get behind in droves to give the devs no excuse but to implement them

First, Riot uses tactics to keep people addicted, so it's not fair to blame players for sticking with something they don't like anymore. Second, if you think Boards are nothing but complaints, you must be putting a lot of effort into avoiding the avalanche of posts about Worlds and the Popstar 2.0 skin line. That's why the first group of people is complaining, by the way: bugs and balance issues abound, but the second group of people doesn't care about that and just eats up competitive play, music videos, and so on.

Have you noticed that "balance is garbo but I love the game's Story, Art, & Sound" has gotten a lot of traction in the last few months? Riot is focusing on the things that make them money: skins and pro play. Riot doesn't sell bug and balance fixes for RP (in fact, they do the opposite - new champs and skins generally get buffs for a while), so it's tough to justify spending resources on that. Unfortunately, this logic isn't sustainable in the long term, as even the most vapid "CAN K/DA GET MOAR FX PLZ?" players will get annoyed by the game's actual gameplay and possibly quit, while the players who are here to actually play would only buy the occasional skin when they're having fun with the game. Given the "To Sell Toys" nature of LoL (also known as "merchandising"), a solid base product is core to the business model. People are quitting, and thigh-high skins aren't keeping them here no matter how much the cosmetics crowd loves them.

If you've heard of Rift, you'll be familiar with what happens when gameplay is abandoned in favor of things that actually show up on the quarterly balance sheet. The game has had no new content for a full year, with pretty much all development effort going into cosmetics for the cash shop. Some people love that stuff, and they buy it, which stands in stark contrast to dungeons and raids that are available to all with no cash outlay, but the population has all but disappeared, which hurt sales for pretty much everything. Raiders might not have spammed threads about how cool the newest mount was, but they occasionally bought things. Now the company has been sold to avoid bankruptcy due to massive debt, all the devs were laid off, and all the titles are now owned by a publisher that specializes in maintenance mode.

P.S.: Riot is having its worst year since 2014 and YoY revenue is down 21%, and that's with the increasing quality (judging by the fanboy praise) of the game's cosmetic items.

P.P.S.: My LoL play since the Odyssey debacle consists of a few matches every couple weeks on my main when I'm tilted by life and feel like losing in PvP. I used to play half a dozen matches a day.

I disagree, if you smoke, you're to blame, if you ride a bike and injure yourself, it's not the bike fault for being "too thrilling" or "too fun" that is just your fault. Same goes for candies, it's not the candies fault if you get carries, it's just you being a dumb consummers.

Sunk Costs Fallacy.

I've spent so many years learning this game, and it's less effort continuing to play than learning another game entirely. I've tried with Dota2 but the turn speeds feel like lag and the mechanics to me scream 'perceived lag'. I've tried with HotS but the same matchmaking issues exist and are much harder on people who are still learning the game. I've tried with Battlerite but the conflict of controls are too heavy.

In other words, I've already spent so many years on this game. It's too late to back out now and might as well play it to the end; whatever this imaginary end is.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Das me. There is no other good gme for me. I tried to pick up dota but it feels so clunky when you are used to leagues fluid gameplay for years. Hots is even more punishing in ranked when you have retard teammates something that is putting me off league for longer now. SWTOR unfortunately also got killed by the casualisation for me so no turning back. PubG i still play a lot but it isn't something i enjoy playing solo as i do playing league.

So either something good comes around or there is me playing a few games a week hoping that one day meddler and friends get the boot and league is getting fun again.

Only good game (which I will recommend till the day I die) would be Warframe, but as a PvE farm/grind based game, there's nothing left for me to grind/play for. Either I already have the stuff, the remaining things are just not worth the effort or there's no motivation. For instance to get max rank/level in Warframe you need to level literally everything in the entire game. Why would I, for instance, have and leveled all the best gear would want to be bothered to level up shitty gear?

So yeah, we're trapped in this loop. You find the best of the best and play it loyally until it either gets shit (LoL) or you exhaust it's lifespan (Warframe). Then you look elsewhere only to be disappointed because no other game came close to the original game you fell in love with before it went shit.

for many, there is simply not another game that even comes close to the same level of depth that league has within this genre. The problem is, they continue to make the game worse

people "want" to play league, but not the current league, they want to play the older seasons which were addictive and they want Riot to fix the game so that it's not based on connection speed and champion picks

it would also be nice if the client didn't use MORE resources than the actual game

Especially Akali -the shroud tilts me Zoe -the bubble titls me Leblanc - THIS CHAMP tilts me. Just have to sit there and take the punishment like I just dropped the soap in the prison showers.

Not everyone. Some of the most fun moments I've had in games have been losses. The difference for me is whether I feel I deserved the loss or not. If I feel I played fine and it was RNG or mechanics, then I'm pissed. If I feel I've been outplayed, or there was something I overlooked, the potential intrigues me and I often enjoy it.

Most people who think winning = happy, losing = sad are just projecting, not everyone thinks that way.
