Why do you ping missing on a teammate who made a mistake?

Just trying to get some logic on this. You see that a teammate made a mistake. Usually it's something simple and reasonable, like missing a skillshot or canceling an auto. Something that was clearly not intentional. And you ping the person. Is that supposed to help in any way or make things better? To me it's one of the most toxic and childish things that people do. And from experience, it usually comes from players who don't do well in the game at all. Is it a way for you to feel better about yourself? I'm just wondering.

More examples: You fail a flash over the wall. Pings galore. Did you want an explanation of what happened? "You see, my fellow teammate, I found myself in trouble as the enemy team was trying to kill me. So I positioned myself next to the wall to prepare myself to flash over. I then placed my cursor over said wall and hit the F button, which I have assigned to be my flash spell. Unfortunately, the game decided that the wall was too thick to flash over. Alternately, it's possible that I left a bit of space between myself and said wall, resulting in an unsuccessful passage. I was then brutalized by the enemy team until I died ."

Is this the explanation you want? Because I will sit at fountain and write it out for you. Pinging things like this just adds insult to injury. I've been on both ends. I understand if your solo laner is 0-5 and keeps trying to fight their opponent after you told him to play safe. In that case it's blatant and repeated mistakes, and they probably warrant pings and criticism. But people will ping you for any mistake, even your first one.

Because it's a question mark asking why they did such a foolish thing

UltraGigaNiga12/25/2016, 3:57:17 AM11 votes

To make them feel miserable about their mistake and hopefully uninstall after the game

I do it as a joke, especially when I am the one who made a mistake. The question mark just carries humor for me.

The worst thing is that now when people ping my lane I don't even know if its because the enemy is missing or I did something stupid. Heck any time I see the mia ping I have to spend too long wondering: is someone missing, did the enemy screw up or did I screw up. It's annoying and messing up your teammates on a psychological level

hunterspec12/25/2016, 3:51:56 AM4 votes

easy. only way to be toxic without being reported and getting banned. I do it since I stopped being toxic.

Treeofwar12/25/2016, 3:10:55 AM4 votes

playful banter in my opinion such as when you type zzzzzzzzz in chat when they do it too.

No i don't use the mia ping for simple mistakes like that cause it happens to everyone, i will question ping your ass if you do something really stupid to make me question if i was in bronze or not.

Like this vayne

If my support misses a cannon when they have relic shield I mia ping them, but it's more playful than anything

GoronMuncherV12/25/2016, 11:09:26 PM2 votes

Raging at people whether through chat or pings would have to be the most bronze move you can make. I am yet to win a game via the method of trash talking my already feeding ally instead of working past it.

I feel like you're exaggerating this. I've only seen this happen when someone like goes 1v5 or does some really dumb shit. It's asking why they did it. If they tell you why they thought that was a good idea and it's reasonable it's fine but if they say lul yi at 30 mins while being 0/9. Rip

I ping MIA wherever someone is missing my lane or another lane if I happen to notice then if I can I type it out. 1 ping a peace for bot laners so if there are 2 mia pings bot then there are 2 people missing from bot lane that should be there.

I was playing Soraka in aram once and took 5 measly minions and the Tristana who might I add wouldn't have gotten it anyways proceeded to question mark ping me like I did the most terrible thing in the world. And treated me like her personal heal bot the whole game :') like I wasn't allowed to heal anyone but her.

Kingnewgameplus12/26/2016, 2:45:08 AM1 votes

I ping missing if my adc gets deleted by a rengar or something like that because now they're missing from the face of the earth.

Clumsy Paladin12/26/2016, 9:29:11 PM1 votes

I think people are way too sensitive with this stuff. Carebears online is that way ----> ? I dunno.

Personally, I ping and spam masteries on myself way more than anyone else. It keeps it fun and fresh for me. Lets face it, masteries by design serve what purpose? An ego boost? when are you supposed to use it exactly? when you 'outplay' someone? how often do 'outplays' actually happen? How do you know if it was an actual "outplay" and not just dumb luck? and who even cares?

So yeh I use it more to make fun of myself xD

I ping missing when I initiate and no one follows up or when I die when it was easy to save me.

Like, literally, I'm missing. Where did I go?!

DHBGrimReaper12/25/2016, 7:14:15 AM1 votes

I always question mark ping when one of my team 1v4s or 1v5s and gets a quadra/pentakill as a sign of disbelief.

Bronze Bonanza12/25/2016, 7:16:19 AM1 votes

I love when people spam ? ping on me because my laner killed them. Hey I called MIA on them, or hey they died and decided to go kill your retarded ass, or hey they walked through 3 wards to get to your lane.

When that happens, I suggest immediately making it up to them for not taking control over their champion and saving them, by heading to their lane and ganking their lane opponent underneath their 2nd tower.

bad arcade kitty12/25/2016, 7:22:11 AM1 votes

in a recent game:

our bot was ganked while i was at top, ganking & farming they ping ? and claim i am afk farming i promise them to never gank bot they say it is ok in a few minutes they beg me to gank i type them, what words in "no ganks bot" they didn't understand they are mad then they ask me to gank again, like they burned their summoners, they are low i don't even bother to answer they feed

so, i guess, don't ping ?

KoKoboto12/25/2016, 4:15:19 PM1 votes

I need a fast way to insult my team and pinging is faster than typing, and more spammable so...

Raven Redeemed12/25/2016, 4:26:56 PM1 votes

Yeah it's pretty dumb. I like to ping myself when other people do, although that can tilt my ping-happy teammate for whatever reason.

Myrmiron12/25/2016, 6:17:25 PM1 votes

I only ping missing on a dead enemy who made a mistake that made me laugh. I do it because I think it's funny. I also ping myself when I died from a stupid mistake. Same reason.

ProjektSHIN12/25/2016, 9:40:07 PM1 votes

Lol... I think you are a little bit oversensitive OP, if you made a mistake...and you see that question mark pop up next to your dead body, try not to take it so personally.... If you were on my team, I would definitely ping and call you out on it in the hopes that it wouldn't happen again in-game... The only reason why I personally I do not like using "enemy missing" ping for when teammates fuck up or make a bad call is because it can lead to confusion as the ping means "ENEMY IS MISSING"... but the question mark reflects my thoughts perfectly that it's hard to resist....

I actually hope that if Riot doesn't plan on implementing voice chat in the client, that they will at least add some new social pings... such as a "good job" ping, a "wtf" ping.... (actually the question mark serves this purpose perfectly that i would like to think that they would switch the enemy is missing ping with something else....) and a "thank you" ping.... sure i could type it out in the chat but for the same reason why we have the original pings in the first place... it just makes communicating so much faster and efficient...

ehhh but i digress...

Stephenizgod12/25/2016, 10:09:08 PM1 votes

When they do that to me when I make a make a mistake, I do it to them when they make a mistake. They usually stop pinging me because being spam pinged for 99% of the game doesn't make you want to be toxic anymore.

grug12/25/2016, 10:27:04 PM1 votes

league of legends isnt a game of co-operation

its a game of BMing everyone in the match, whoever gets BMed the hardest is usually tilted so severely that they just give up. seems like the only way to win in low ELO huehue. problem is; sometimes its teammates that get BMed

Athenes Lulu12/25/2016, 11:14:00 PM1 votes

To inflate their own egos thinking that they are not at fault at all, duh.

Spice POWAH12/25/2016, 11:43:00 PM1 votes

Because i'm in a premade and we're friends. Besides that, nah. I ping myself.
