Pardon my ignorance, but what was the point of the ap changes in the first place?

So pretty much almost all AP items lose AP, but were made cheaper at the same time iirc. I remember needlessly going down and having its AP toned down. But now that all ap items cost more again, did they just effectively get weaker and more expensive at the same time?

The point was that with NLR giving 80 AP, any item that built from it needed to give 120. So they all became much more powerful and the optimal build was always to get all 3 of them rather than to go for any other options with different actives/passives even if they fit the situation better.

Something like this, They wanted to increase Build diversity without increasing AP's over all power.

They also wanted people to have easier gold/item goals when building items, so they can get the components at a reasonable rate. Same reason they changed BF cost.

Are you asking about the initial AP item changes made in the summer? Or the increase in expense during preseason?

The initial changes were, as others have stated, to increase build diversity, which they succeeded at, for sure.

The cost increases this preseason.... I honestly have no idea. I can't understand them, myself. But yeah, they're direct nerfs to virtually every mage.

tbh there is no diversity in the original itemization to begin with.
