@L4T3NCY,For sanity's sake, can we have the next URF on Crystal Scar?

LadyRenly··195 votes·11,855 views

Before you downvote me because "lol dominions shit xD" just hear me out.

-Crystal Scar has much lower death timers than Summoner's Rift. -There are no structures or bases. This means Malzahar cannot be in your base taking your inhibitor at 6-7 minutes. -Even more increased passive gold generation, so even if Eve/Shaco/Zed get through, you won't be completely starved -You can just freely duke it out on an open map without worrying about towers -You start at level 3, not level 1. Some champions have too much of an oppressive level 1 in URF, being able to have all basic abilities right off the bat helps level the playing field somewhat.

I think it'd be worth a shot to see how it fares out, to perhaps make URF a bit less snowbally and remove the restrictive feel the game mode has being on The Rift. I just want to get 6 items and fight, not have to constantly have to base past 8 minutes because no one is dealing with Malzahar and lose before I even have a chance to get full build going.

Hmm, still wouldn't really solve for the pick-clumping around particular popular champs. I feel like that is the larger problem for stagnation (for which I've also seen heap of ideas to solve) compared to map. The change of scenery could still be nice though.

Don't dislike this idea. ^_^b +1 to you mysterious internet stranger.

is that the reason it hasnt came back for a while? if so take your time with fixing that, we dont need urf that often and it could use some kind of champion diversity

The Yetii Rider4 votes

Said this last time you had an RGM Q&A, didn't get a response, so I'll ask you here:

With the restrictions you place on shields and healing, why is there no restriction on untargetable effects as well? I get that using your abilities often is rewarded and that clutch plays feel good, but Zed and Fizz aren't picked so often because they're good at killing people, they're picked because they're untouchable. If you don't want people to be unkillable (which you clearly don't, otherwise we'd have healing and shielding for days) then why is untargetability not managed by some URF-specific nURF(TM)?

ULTRA RANDOM FIRE!

URF with random champs (truly random please, not just pseudo random like in current ARAM). Think it would be a lot of fun playing URF with random champs, those are like your 2 best / most fun modes. Combine them and you could take over the world.

Cheers

kile1472 votes

Pseudo random would probably be fine. ARAM accounts exist because it is up 24/7, it would take a bit to create a URF specific account and by the time you did the mode would be over.

Not saying true random wouldn't be good, just that it's not as needed for URF as it is for ARAM.

Junkο2 votes

Since URF would ideally come back every 3-4 or so weeks like every other game mode, it should be completely true random since eventually people would make URF only accounts.

Any news on Doombots? Really want to see it make a return, and I've seen a lot of other threads requesting it as well

lightdragoon885 votes

The thing with Doombots is that it was done on the old Summoner Rift and pretty much all of the Doombots in that mode have gotten kit changes/upgrades.

In other words: They have to completely re-do the mode from the ground up, from traps on the map, to which of the 130+ champions they want to Doombot-up and what they could do. It is going to take a while.

Now a "How is the progress coming alone?" question...that would be a nice thing to ask.

Xenos111112 votes

I just want to know if they're even intending to work on it. Doesn't matter how much or how little work it would take if they don't plan to bring it back in the first place.

lightdragoon883 votes

They want to make it, but they are trying to finish other modes/projects first before going into Doom Bots.

The last time I queue up for URF mode it was literally a 14 second wait in the rotating Queue system you have now.

URF Mode has never been stagnant.

This sounds a lot like more of the same drizzle in which you didn't want to have URF mode during last April Fools because you said last April Fools Riot saw a drop in the interest in the number of players who play this mode.

Why are you lying? URF mode has always been a time period of the highest population for league. Always a wait queue when logging on.

I can prove you wrong for the fact the social media player play and record if not constantly stream it. Often getting the highest donations.

Is normal Summoner's Rift and Ranked that low population because of Dynamic queue that you have to bad mouth URF?

I played the Nexus Siege it seemed like another tired Tankie DPS fest like Ranked. If anything dump Nexus Siege... I know I don't play that new mode anymore. Back to ARAMs till you fix Dynamic Queue or release URF mode again.

There are 4 champions atm with 50+% banrate. I wouldn't really call that good.

President Swa1n1 votes

You're right, but I was responding to a comment on pick stagnation. Also, considering there are 6 bans for 130 champions, only the very worst will be banned, hence the high rates. Furthermore, this isn't justification at all, but Zed's ban rate has dropped from 80+ to 56. And lastly, out of the four champions you mentioned, only two have a win rate exceeding 50%.

Thsts interesting I didn't realize it was worth to have someone in charge of overall design for multiple products. I would thought each product should be designed separately from each other.

Is there any benefit for having someone in charge of overall design for multiple products ? I would assume this is more of an exec level thing , setting up pipelines, goals and guidelines for overall design practice for the entire studio. IE similar to VP of RnD for example who may work with several software architects.

Thanks for chatting man, have a great day!

Why would you ruin your best game mode that way.

In Ranked and Normal Summoners Rift you have worse stagnant games. The same champs picked over and over again. Because you fail to balance correctly. The same Tankie DPS picks.

Are you really going ruin another game mode? URF Mode has plenty more champions that are viable and methods to play productively. You make snowdown champion pick on Howling Abys and it has so much better of a population playing it compared to ARAM.

But it seems like the dev. team continues to make poor choice and the population and popularity of the game continues to go down.

President Swa1n2 votes

I would argue that very recently, if you look at play rates, pick clumping hasn't been much of an issue in SR. But in URF, you almost definitely will not be able to balance to such an extent without devoting INSANE amounts of resources to do so. It's supposed to be just for fun. Random picks will kind of add to the 'chaotic' element, too.

Random picks will add confusion to new players playing the mode (since it is often rarely available) and less playing it.

Votable Jester4 votes

New players aren't as in need of a break from normal Summoner's Rift games as those who have played for several years.

Regardless, people understood ARAM fast enough, so I doubt this would be too much for them to comprehend.

All that repetitive play only accounts for knowledge and not exactly intelligence. And it pains you that its the truth, so you lash out with the word tryhards. Really... I'm not salty at all, I'm simply annoyed that these players come along who play this game mode that is meant FOR FUN and try their hardest to win ''omg guys pick X and Y because they're OP ''WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU PICK THIS CHAMPION? FUCKING NOOBS'' URF doesn't require ''better hand eye coordination'' it doesn't require ''fast thinking'' there is no fast thinking is spamming Q as evelyn, there is no fast thinking in spamming Q as zed, all it requires is you spamming your abilities with barely any thought what so ever, that's all there is to it.

whether you want to believe it or not it is tryharding when you take a completely fun game mode that is not even remotely designed to be competitive or to be taken serious and you take it as serious as ranked, a competitive game mode where your skill is tested.

URF is much more faster pace than Ranked or Normal Summoners Rift and URF isn't just Tekken (and if you are too young to understand the term you don't just smash the keyboard. AKA you aren't playing Kat)

Face it, it is just as I said before you can't anticipate your opponents cooldowns something I am sure you have done all season in Ranked and in Normal and through counter picks. So the minute you come across a mode where you get beaten on your main you cry holy hell that it is tryhards. Because for the life of you, you can't figure out how anyone could ever beat you.

Grow up. URF isn't tryhards and it takes hell more skill to play.

but of course since tekken is much faster paced then normals and ranked games.

that is not the problem at all, in fact I don't have a main, saying I'm mad and crying because my main isn't winning time and time again is just ridiculous as that's simply not the case at all, I'm not a good player, I'm not puzzled as to why I'm beaten I do not pretend to be the best there is, far from it so your accusations are false and hold no value, honestly you should come up with a new claim besides implying I lose on my main therefore I ''cry'' whatever that means.

I am grown up as a matter of fact, and saying URF requires more skill is simply preposterous if you play champion X and you face champion Y even if you are better you will lose because some champions are simply more OP then others in URF, if you think it requires skill to spam the Q button to victory then I feel bad for you if that is your perception of skill.

once again, we have this fun game mode, not meant for competitive gameplay at all and yet players take it as serious if not more serious then ranked, if you only want to pick the most OP champion in URF everytime foregoing fun then that is tryharding, after all if they were playing for fun we would see evelyn in every single game in normal and ranked just like in urf, but we do not, wonder why that is? because she is OP in URF and people would rather win then to experiment and try out new fun champions.

I repeatedly said I play multiple champions, I try out all sorts of champions whether it be in normals, ranked or URF, however the distinct difference is that in URF you can be killed time and time again regardless of your skill or what you try to do about it because of the power disparity between champions in that game mode.

Are you kidding me?

You just described Ranked and Normal Summoners Rift play.

The same tired Overplayed champions. Even the same bans.

See the difference in Ranked it means something to them so players act in a manner you don't like. And in Normals they are practicing for Ranked (so you get the same behavior).

It really only sounds like you had a bad experience in League that happens in any mode. And not a problem with URF. So where is your excuse? Again I am leaning towards not being able to hack a faster paced game.

Yes URF takes a hell of a lot more hand eye coordination and smash Q doesn't win you games. Else like I said if you just rolled your face on the Keyboard you would have Kat. At least Eves Q's zeros in on a single target where take Kat's is stupid AoE or multiple targets in her skills. Are you see any difference?

And yet any player would tell you the key to shutting down Kat is CC. And this is no different. Eve isn't CCing you while smashing Q just as Kat isn't.

If you are getting killed time and time again that figures into your skill as you had already explained. And the word tryhard is your way of justification that it isn't your problem that it is URFs... your getting overwhelmed and you can't handle it. Simply don't play this game mode because too many numerous champs have been called out in this thread as OP in URF it really shows there isn't a problem.

I'm having the same experience in every URF game where I see the exact same 16-20 champions being picked and banned every game because their power level is way higher because they benefit more from massively increased CDR as opposed to other champions.

and yet games are being won by evelyn's on URF by doing nothing but mashing Q because the ability has a 0.3 sec cd as opposed to the CD of katarina her Q.

ok so I pick zac and am in lane vs evelyn, her Q vastly out damages any of my abilities due to the cd and range and she outruns me because of her W, so what do I do? I close the gap with E, but wait if I do that I'm basically offering up a free kill because she has that much more damage.

ok lets try aatrox, this time facing a leblanc, she keeps using her Q to poke me into oblivion and any attempt at engaging are met with a dash + tether, at this point no matter how skilled I may be I cannot win because the ranged + CDR advantage is too big.

so melee turns out not to work, lets try a ranged champion, say, miss fortune, this time I'm facing a zed, not only are the minions at my tower all the time I also every 2 seconds have to dodge his Q and have no way to retaliate due to his insane poke range with W + Q, again, no matter how skilled I may be I'm not going to kill him but he will be killing me''just dodge'' fine concept in normals, not when he uses his Q every 2 seconds as no doubt eventually you'll get hit.

I could go on and on, the point being some champions scale vastly more with CDR then others and the counterplay that exists in normal/ranked doesn't anymore when you take it to urf, facing evelyn in normal as zac? rush a visage and that evelyn won't be killign you any time soon, rush a visage in URF? you won't be able to beat her no, you in fact still won't be able to come close with dying horribly.

so as you see, even if you are more skilled then the other player you will still die, sure you can avoid dying to a evelyn because of her short range so tower keeps you safe, at least early on, but you cannot avoid doing so against a zed or leblanc if you do not also happen to pick a OP champions

numerous champions have been called OP in URF and therefore it is not true? as a matter of fact so many champions are OP that for that reason the game is less fun, take a E from urgot you're dead, hecarim charges in with E and roflcopters you to dead, zed infinitely spams w/q and you're dead, alsitair annoys the living hell out of you by nearly perma ccíng you and being unkillable and you kill yourself, why do you think so many people want URF to be random? because they are tired of seeing the same 16-20 OP champions being picked and banned every game.

First example was face rolling with Kat. NOT JUST HER Q. You literally can see this in low ELO now. Not even in URF mode. A champion that literally smashes the keys.. but not to take one person but to AoE an entire Team down. That is Kat. Don't tell me this crap about Eve in oh - my - God URF.... Really!?!?

But again players that know how to play use CC. Just as they use CC on eve to kill her in URF. And by the way Zac is a beast on URF.

But your own explanation proves my point. Increasing the number to 16-20 when many on this thread would argue only a few were OP in URF.... which is it ..

The fact is that players are too salty they thought they were the stuff in Ranked only to find they only have repetitive knowledge.
You talk about linear.
Constantly memorizing counter picks and their cooldowns in Ranked in a broken Dynamic Queue to claim skill... HA! URF mode that is skill. Flash and fury and if you can't handle it ... well there is a kitchen and some loafs of bread and cold cuts that won't put themselves together alone.

And why are you still going on about the same champs over and over again when its not true. Only time it is true is when you are talking about Ranked play.

The sad part is Meddler is suggesting something that won't fix a thing. And worse it has been proven in ARAM. Littered with smurf accounts with only the champs they care about. Give all the champs to everyone you say? Well that still doesn't stop the smurf accounts dodging and logging on to their many other smurfs until they get the champ they want. While they play on the champ they like all their other smurf accounts just burn the dodge timer away.

Been with this game since Beta. Meddler ... Morello don't matter who speaks for them. They just don't get it. And I have sent in tons of surveys.

Only time it is true is when you are talking about Ranked play.

yet I'm not talking about low elo where you can actually take any champion any lane without being shat on unlike URF due to the OP champions.

you're right, evelyn doesn't take down teams, then again neither does kat by the same excuse ''just cc'' so argument invalid.

lovely counter argument ''just cc her'' to bad some champions flat out don't have CC and the only thing they can rely on is out damaging the enemy which doesn't happen with for example, a evelyn, or their CC is a skillshot whic hevelyn can dodge with jer W ms boost, leblanc can dash away from it, riven can dash away from it, zed blinks away from it etc etc.

obviously it's about 16-20, which is why you see almost the exact same champions being banned every game because everyone is well aware of how OP they are with the few try hards being excepted who play to win not for fun.

once again, that is simply not the case as explained previously, I never claimed I'm a great player, not good just average so claiming once again I'm crying/salty because I'm not rekkign face is a shitty argument that holds no ground, I'd have thought you would've come up with something new to accuse me of but apparently not.

and yet the majority of posts about URF claim the opposite, there is no skill involved in using a ability every 2 seconds with no repercussion because of extremely low cool downs and no resource costs, there is no managing resources, there is no managing cool downs which subtracts from the skill requirement, add in the fact the fact some champions vastly benefit more from massive CDR and it will be made clear that less skill is required as some champions simply become OP.

you claim it is not true the same champions are being picked otherwise yet the threads that are made after URF gets released every time blatantly proves otherwise.

flash and fury? in URF? what are you even on about, there is no flash and fury when all you do is hang around tower dodging shit because you dare to choose a champion which doesn't have point & click CC or very long range abilities.

of course it makes a difference if you make it like ARAM, because only the try hards can be bothered to make several smurf accounts jsut to get an OP champion they can easily win with, the majority does not.

the fact that you compare it to ARAM and smurf accounts means you do know that OP champions exist, otherwise you wouldn't possibly show what the ''problem'' could be, that being try hards who make several smurfs and dodge till they get the champion they want, so the most OP champion, simple as that.

why would I care if you've been here since beta? you could've been here since alpha, you could've made the game I don't give a rats ass as that has nothing to do with this conversation

yus! But make it independent from champions owned or don't apply the system where the rng attempts to never give a single champion to both teams. The result is that you are given the same champ over and over even though it's random.
