Is Mordekaiser viable?

I seriously like the idea of cracking skulls with a mace bigger than yourself, but is he currently viable as top?. . .

When i tried him, my hp drained too quickly from using E, my shield was peeled too quickly (Seriously why it goes down?) and had no kind of CC or slows whatssoever to catch running people low HP

Meanwhile, we got stuff like yasuo passive shield, malphite passive shield, kahm 2 HP bars, and garen increased regeneration

Any viable mordekaiser item builds that half work?

He's a bit tricky to get the hang of besides being in a pretty bad spot currently.

I tend to rock this build; Rylais, Steraks, hextech Gunblade, spirit visage and zhonyas. Boots to your liking.

Last I was aware Mordekaiser was balanced around being in bot lane (as opposed to an ADC) so top lane Morde might be hard to use.

Have a look here: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/qAf0vs1x-mordekaiser-builds-diversity-need-for-advices

All builds more or less work, but Riot is pushing for the Hybrid bruiser build at the end of my post. However, the problem is that you have 2 skills amputated in solo lane. With W becoming castable in solo lane again in 6.1 (tomorrow), it should be much easier.

You're supposed to play him as an ADC with a support. His passive gives him bonus XP when laning with an ally and his speed boost requires an allied champion to work. That and you need a support to CC people.

Mordekaiser is prett unplayable at the time but you could try. Rylais, Sterak's/Deadman's, Hextech Gunblade, Spirit Visage, Boots of Swiftness.

Rylais proc's off all your abilities, including your ghosts, especially dragon, and the Hextech gives good sticking/sustain. Honestly he is way to slow and his health costs/base stats hold him back tremendously.

Rush Rylais. Your first back should be NLR and that provides a huge power spike compared to what your typical ad laner brings after first back. I like to build something like Rylais, Ludens, Liandries, Deadmans, Abyssal, Boots to taste.

He's probably Viable, but he's still really impractical, you have to buy a dozen items to repair his horrible mobility and utility, and of course, you can only buy 6... eventually.

I would focus on his W though, as it does the most damage in total and has a health recovery mechanism. W also has some conditional MS for getting in and out, now that it can be done on Minions again, he can probably top better than he has since his original Ruin, but your still going to rely on buying a ton of utility just to skirmish regularly, and your very certainly not able to dance with anyone.

I think the real problem is that he doesn't deal enough damage, he's never been the kind of champion that should be catching and ganking foes, he's supposed to be so powerful that they have to avoid you or get ruined... that's what Riot did wrong.
