Why not go all the way with the Malzahar revert?

If the changed go through then basically Malzahar is more like his former self but a far more one-dimensional and generally speaking worse champ.

  • His passive shield his toxic and unnecesary during lanephase. You should focus on farming with E and voidlings instead of putting yourself in danger. Whenever his passive is strong he bullies everyone out of the lane like old Yorick used to do and whenever his passive is weak like now it is useless.
  • His passive shield is useless especially with the new item 3102. Every APC can get his passive now without any tradeoffs because it also gives AP now. With the current banshee there is absolutely no reason to keep his stupid and much hated passive.
  • His old passive envolved a minigame for voidling and lane pressure management. It required a lot more skill and was 100x more fun. Also stacking your passive to spawn voidlings to dodge skillshots was the most satisfying and skillful thing you could do which he lost now.
  • AD Malzahar and jungle Malzahar was a thing without crowding out his AP build. It made him very diverse as a champ and it was niche, fun and balanced.
  • His old W was his bread and butter. It made Malzahar not being a stunbot. It made him scale from a 1 vs 1 champ into an anti-tank peel mage during the mid-lategame where his dualing power would diminish due to people grouping and QSS. Most of his damage came from his pool and it was also a good zoning tool and made him a real threat in teamfights.
  • During mid-lategame you DON'T want him to depend on voidlings aka the AI do be meaningful. As a mage you want to play spells and make meaningful choices yourself rather than pressing W and hoping for the best.
  • He was one of the few mages who were good vs tanks and juggernauts. That alone made him unique and a valuable pick.
  • He lost AA range, base movement speed, base armor. Will that get reverted as well?

Old Malzahar could be played in a lot of different ways without any build crowding out the other. They all coexisted in harmony. AD Malz, jungle Malz, Assasin Malz, Tankmelter Malz all had their place in the game and made him a very unique and diverse champ. Please just fully revert him.

I'm sorry, did you just say "His old W was his bread and butter"?

During S5 I got as high as D2 maining Malzahar. I know what I am talking about. His pool was his most important spell because it made you not rely on your ult to deal damage in teamfights

But his ult and pool are just merged now? So what's the problem? His ult used to do a flat damage amount, now it's %hp like the pool used to be and his ult includes the pool. The stunned target and anyone in the pool get the damage.

His problem now is that they've nerfed the crap out of his new W over and over and over.

It should be obvious that it is a HUGE difference whether you can spawn his pool ever 8-10 seconds or you need to suppress yourself for 3 seconds to spawn the pool every minute. The pool was merged with his ult under the misconception of Repertoir that the pool was only used in combination with the ult and apart from it it was useless. His old pool did massive damage especially when combined with any hard cc from your teammates. 1-2 second stun/snare, use your pool and deal 30% HP in magicdamage. THAT is the difference and what made him viable in higher eelo.

His current W is just unsatisfying to play. You don't want your champs damage be controled by the AI. Its that plain and simple. Every rework that doesn't change that is a failed rework.

The flat damage of his ult was good to kill squishies, the HP% damage from his pool was good to kill everything else. You just had to choose the right buildpath for each game but I guess a lot of people only saw Malzahar as an AP stacking assasin with his ult and just stacked AP instead of more utiliy and Liandry.

My most common build used to be: item 3020 item 3116 item 3151 item 3135 item 3089 item 3157 or any other defensive item. And honestly most of the times I would't even get Rabadon. Too much gold and unnecesary to do your job as a tankmelter/peeling mage in the backline.

Sometimes you want to use the pool to provide a "sunfire cape" for your front line while suppressing the assassin diving your ADC.

Sometimes you want to use your pool to slow down enemies trying to chase you.

Sometimes someone is about the get away with a sliver of health and you happen to have an 800 range pool with near instant damage application.

Sometimes you want to dance on top of the pool for 2-3 seconds during a lee sin gank so you can dodge skill shots while dealing damage.

There is so much shit you can do with the pool when it was an individual spell.

The pool was a spell that people took for granted.

Personally I was maxing REWQ rather than REQW pre-MYMU because I actually noticed how useful it was.

Just remember that the more you use something, the more you learn about their subtleties.
