I should play ranked so people can't use that on me... unless I get stuck in silver again.

Most people will be silver and bronze. Then a few gold. A very few plat. And RARELY a diamond or master player. Just speaking in terms of the distribution of the player base.

Going from the old boards where players had badges, I'm going to say that the boards probably have a much higher % of upper elo players than the general distribution. Diamonds are not rare on the boards and there are a couple of master players here and there.

This is true. There probably are a higher percentage of better players on the board because they are more active in the community.

However some of this could also be attributed to a specific effect I can't remember the name of. Basically, the things that are uncommon, you remember the most, so they seem more common over time.

For example, if AverageJoe makes a post and he is Silver3 when you LoLKing him, you won't remember AverageJoe. You might do this A LOT. So they just kinda fly under your subconscious radar. But when you See a post from a Master tier player, it sticks out in your mind, so when you recall the posts you have read those ones are the ones you remember, so naturally it would seem that there are more posts from higher level players.

There shouldn't (and generally isn't) a ranking for anything. IMO all rankings should be able to have a litte bit to say about some characters. BUT there is something to be careful about. More often than not, post from low elo people ends up being rambling about how they got destroyed by a Zed in lane (for example).

There is a difference between being wrecked by someone and a character being actually OP. THis is why Riot is trying to keep the game balanced for everyone the more than they can. You can't really balance an assassin not to snowball in lower elos. This is basically the point of an assassin.

The lack of votes lol. I would argue that Silver and Bronze are definitely low elo and gold probably is too (or at least most of it). However I would also argue that it doesn't matter much usually. If you're a high plat player asking for help with a specific champ or match up then yeah, bronze and silver advice won't help probably because they are playing such a low elo that most of what helps there is already being done if you're high plat. In that case you want high elo player advice from high diamond, master, or challenger. However if you're in bronze and struggling, you might actually prefer silver or gold level advice since they are in a spot they can help you being just a little further ahead, but also are close enough they are less likely to take things for granted that you SHOULD be able to do and instead understand that you may need help with the basics. Also they know the way bronze and silver players play since they have been against them more recently. There is stuff that will work in bronze that won't in gold or plat and a silver might give you that advice while a diamond wouldn't because it doesn't occur to do something that is technically sub optimal or just bad, but will work in your elo because that is how poor people play there.
