Entire roles would be banned out if there were 10 bans. Sometimes there aren't even 10 meta picks. For competitive it would be a disaster, players could be completely banned out with 5 targeted at them.

The last two bans could be for bans whose roles don't overlap more than twice? Like say you already banned two supports next two bans can't be a support.
made picture illustrating this, attached
clicking mage would bring up all the mages, clicking tank all the tanks and so on. Easy way to locate the champion your looking to ban
What do you consider Nautilus or Annie?

Off-building champions. I don't want to actually use riot's roles system as law.
I've heard that counter argument a lot, but like, does any role ACTUALLY have fewer than 12 meta picks? Support has the fewest I can think of off the top of my head but there's still Leona, Braum, Thresh, Blitz, Naut, Taric, Nami, Annie, Soraka, Janna, Zyra, Sona, Bard, and then slighty offmeta picks like Xerath and Nunu.
A lot of these aren't meta picks, though. Like Soraka, Taric, or Bard.

Not really. If you're forced to play singed support, that doesn't really make it meta. That's just what you're left with.
A lot of these aren't meta picks, though. Like Soraka, Tatic, or Bard.
Morgana. Zilean. Blitzcrank.
For competitive, other teams would have to have champion pools as deep as Unicorns of Love. I personally don't see that as a bad thing.
So your opinion is that versatility and champion pool is what makes players good. It's a valid reason, but there are some people like me that don't think like you. The thing is that Unicorns of Love demonstrated you can win with off-meta picks if you make the game chaotic enough. And all of that with six bans.
10 bans would make the tier 2 the meta and the tier 1 just simply banned. It's not the solution IMO.
you're assuming people would just ban top tier picks, which is definitely not the case if you look at ban rates. sure they are up there but they're definitely nowhere close to exclusive.
I think that there are two alternatives: They would ban either a complete role or all top tiers.
In soloQ midlane would be unplayable because they would never get their mains. In competitive play either they have a star player who would be completely denied or the whole team would not get their mains.
There are way more then 5 Meta mid Picks

mid?
The time of squishies has come to an end.

There's actually more like 50 or them or something
http://champion.gg/statistics/#?sortBy=general.overallPosition&order=ascend&roleSort=Middle
If you have a diverse champion pool, you can do better than someone with the bare minimum of champs. In my opinion, at least.
Specializing is what makes you be godlike at some champions. 99% of people can't just play whatever and get the same result. The sickest outplays come after hours and hours invested in playing one champion, not from generalists.
Sure, but if you only invest your time into the same 5 champions (in this scenario) such as Jarvan IV, Brand, Caitlyn, Xerath, and Jayce, and if those 5 are banned, then you don't really have a broad champion pool that let's you have multiple options when someone is picked/banned. Now, there ARE going to be champions who you will be naturally better with, and there are always going to be the ones who just don't click for you as they do for other players. All in all, the easiest way to "outplay" someone is to just know what to do with the abilities, as well as not go too balls deep into something that's just gonna kill you anyway.
I think that the whole point that I'm trying to defend throughout this thread is that IMO deep champion pools and versatility is not what makes a player good. It has to be proven that they can keep some sort of level outside their "mains", but it shouldn't be tested 24/7.
Yeah, I see what you're saying. The thing is, if you don't have an expansive champion pool, then you might run into MANY match ups that you have no clue what the other champion can do, damage and timing in mind... Basically, think of this as if you are going against Heimerdinger for the first time... It's going to be absolute HELL because you don't know how to fight around his turrets, or even how to fight Heimerdinger himself, or even underestimating the damage that all three of his turrets can pour onto you. If I kept my champion pool to my few favorites: Heimerdinger, Jinx, Sona, Sion, Teemo Putting that into account, I wouldn't really have a good knowledge of how many of the other champions worked, besides testing them during the free rotation. The pros are good at what they do simply because they know what they're doing, and they know how the other champions work so that they don't make stupid mistakes over and over again. However, I do understand what you're saying.
you know what LCS players have? Deep champion pools. That makes them better. Why do you want to not be better?
Do they? Are you sure? There are plenty of them that are heavily denied when they get directly banned.
Good players are so because they are good. Versatility and deep champion pools is a luxury of the best ones.
as pros, they are paid to adapt to the game. That is literally their job. If the ban pool is increased, they are still going to be far better than you and I, not just mechanically but in terms of strategy, positioning and timing, so we can see equal skill on more champs because that is their JOB to stay good. Do you tell your boss "nope we can't raise the requirements on this project because I won't be good at it anymore"? No, you get fired for that.
They are paid to be the best. There is no reward at the end of a loss if you played an off-meta pick. Also, the game is not made for those in the LCS, it is made for 90% of players who can't reach that level of greatness.
If I'm in soloQ and I can't play my 2 favourite champions because they are strong (not even the best) just because between 10 bans there is a lot of probability that they are banned, I won't have that much fun.

Really? The probability of my favorite champions getting banned is extremely low. Basically only LeBlanc out of all my favorites gets banned. Because I don't change my favorites by who is played in LCS. 12 months ago I would have had a hard time picking Syndra because she was suddenly so many people's favorite. Now all those people who claimed she was their favorite or main favor other champions. I can get her every game again. Funny how that works.
Not saying you are that way. But the vast majority of this community is. As is obvious by needing bans in the first place. And I have no sympathy for those individuals.
So your opinion is that versatility and champion pool is what makes players good.
No. But it makes games more interesting.
Bronze V games are very interesting and exciting. 55-67 is crazy.
High level of play doesn't usually come from odd picks, but from deep understanding of the game and the champion. That is acquired through hours of play and "maining" those champions.
I'm not even looking for "odd picks". It just gets old watching the same 15ish champions played they same way by the same people every game for most of the year. That's why UoL is making a stir. It's not that they're better; but they're more diverse in their champ pool and tactics. Makes watching them for more than 2 games not boring (or at least, less so).
Even then, Riot could just keep the 6 bans for ranked 5v5 teams and pro play, but give soloQ 10 bans with 1 per player. Now each player in SoloQ can ban what they don't want to go up against, LCS and ranked 5v5 is not touched, and I'd say at least 10 people are happy.
And if for some reason an entire soloQ lobby bans out 10 supports, then I guess the whole lobby wanted a weird game.
lol, i like the idea, and though there are some downs, there are more pluses with this; example bellow.
Player 1: I'll ban
----------------------------- Player 1: Shoot, she's my main, I'll ban
Player 2: I also like Kat, I'll ban
- Player 2: hmm, I think I'll ban
.
Player 3: I don't like
--------------------- Player 3: I want to ban
.
Player 4:
because reasons... ----- Player 4: Man, I main Graves, I'll just ban
.
Player 5: NOO! not sona. darn.
-- Player 5: Not many left...
Time to pick.
Player 1:
jun ------------------------------------- Player 1:
mid
Player 2:
mid ----------------------------------- Player 2:
sup
Player 3:
top ------------------------------------ Player 3:
top
Player 4:
adc ------------------------------------ Player 4:
jun
Player 5:
sup ------------------------------------ Player 5:
adc
So this does leave us with some more champions that we may not see as often as others in champ select.
The champions selected are upon a few of those that will get banned from majority from time to time.
also being on my list.
This allows for 4 more bans and which leaves us with 111 champions still to chose from. At least to those who have over 60 get 50 to chose from.

And well 10 bans in one role would mean both teams choose to target ban that role... and well if both teams want to... why not let them?
because muh metagame.
There's not 20 ADC's. Lol. There's

That's 16. Quinn and MF are hardly ever played as ADC's. I've seen way more mid MF's than I've seen of ADC MF's since her horrible rework.
With ten bans, you can ban every single ADC with mobility, thus destroying the role and turning this back into League of Burst where everyone rolls super bursty/dive-y champs. We're finally in a meta where a lot more champions can be used. So many tanks can be picked, tank destroyers, peelers, immobile mages and ADCs... Before, we had nothing but mobility, now we can use just about anything. Ten bans will just end up killing it all by banning out tanks or any kind of mobile ADC or simply make mid useless. Like... Seriously.

Twisted Fate is also an off meta ADC
This would just mean players would have to become more diverse, even if it were only within their own preferred role. PErsonally, I'd like to see the pros' takes on some not-quite-top-tier champs.
It would kick out some players from the scene and the ones that would remain would have very messy plays right and left. It wouldn't let exquisite gameplay shine because there'll be always a player in every team that would be completely denied and he would feel uncomfortable.
that's why I think too many League players are babies that whine and AFK when they get FB'ed then killed when they come back to lane on their "main". The attitude of entitlement that they get to pick what they want, rather than what the team needs in a competitive environment where winning is important and still expect to win every time is fucking disgusting.
Hecarim/Katharina/Zed/Leblanc/Sejuani/Gragas/Nidalee/Sion/Jinx/Graves. If all of these gets banned, then it will be paradise on the Fields of Justice.

you forgot teemo
For an entire role to be banned out. BOTH teams would have to agree to it. That's fine and good.
If you burn all your bans on targeting one player, everyone else on the team gets to use their best and most OP champion. That's fine as well.
ITT: HURR DEE DURR BAN OUT ROLE HURR DEE DURR.
So you ban out all the meta adcs/supports.
You just let the other roles have a pick of what's left. You've effectively alienated 2 people in the game, but have given everyone else a clear and open field.
I don't see how this is a problem, and frankly the fact that this is somehow considered a legitimate argument is retarded.
The problem isn't that a role will be banned out its that the team that picks first get a HUGE advantage by picking the most dominant champion in their role. A simple example would be to ban cait, corki, twich, draven, kogmaw and then just first pick Jinx. Now there are other adc's you can play but none that are going to match Jinx late game or beat her in laneing phase.
ok. enemy team picks Graves and Sejuani. gg.
