"Oh I died, let me see what's killing me so I can build for it!"
[Minions- 40 physical damage][Mage's auto attack- 15 physical damage][Myself- 1 true damage]
Fucking fix this useless shit

Hmm i wonder what killed me...
Revive.
Forget that. Yesterday I found out that
has minions!
My friend found out
is apparently a minion.... this knowledge scares us to say the least.
don't forget such classics as (and I quote)
"Sion Zombie Passive"
"Zypherburn"
and of course "[Enemy summoner name here]"
That second is Liandry's Torment. The working title for the item was originally something like "Zephyr's Lament" and it still displays as that in the Death Recap.
ah, that makes sense. Still, it doesn't make that example any less valid.
Oh I agree. Just wanted to jump in and flaunt my useless knowledge of bug trivia.
Wouldn't surprise me, everything is coded as a minion.
"Creep" blocked by a pink ward and Jarvan's flag. GG
Also, Syndra tries to path around her Q while it's forming. There also used to be a glitch which made monsters aggro Dark Spheres.
I remember the dark sqheres glitch. Never made it out of pbe but it was funny. Allowed syndra to jungle since monsters attacked her orbs.
I'm pretty sure Syndra was disabled on live for that reason once.
She was disabled because she (and blitz) could pick up an invisible turret in the base and mess with stuff with it.
She was disabled MANY times, because of game breaking bugs.
IIRC last time she could kill her own teammates with Scatter the Weak. Sometimes I wish this was a feature. I'd win this many games by killing my bot lane instead.
Forgot the friendly fire bug, that one was funny.
Oh shit, I got aggro from Ekko's ult trail.
Oh, cool. It looks like Flash, Clairvoyance, and Farsight Wards are coded as minions too.
Hmm i wonder what killed me...
Revive.
Revive is getting revenge for being removed from the game. :P
[deleted]
there is a death recap bug where it shows the most random things doing damage to you.
and revive for example.
It's because it's pretty common to die from Revive. I upvoted because it's happened to me and I found the post amusing.
I'm using an old screenshot from the One For All Mirror Mode, but it works well here. The glitch still happens, but this is the only screenshot I have of it.
Revive is actually Riot's way of saying Sunfire Cape...somehow...
glad they removed revive, i remembered it used to deal 400 true damage to me
It still finds a way to come back and kill me even if it is gone...
did 260 true damage to me ![]()
Recap shows less than 40% of the damage dealt. K.
While it's true death recap needs to be fixed, you should be able to get a general idea of what's killing you from the Champions and items alone.

While it's true death recap needs to be fixed, you should be able to get a general idea of what's killing you from the Champions and items alone.
Depends, sometimes some champions will do surprising and unexpected amounts of damage.
Have to agree with this. This is most important if you're a tank and you initiated a fight and got focused. It's hard to know what got you down then.
Surprising and unexpected because I can't see what's killing me in any of the death recaps.
Skarner's Q does both physical and magic damage. His passive chunks you for 100% AD scaling and then some, but deals magic damage. All his other abilities scale from AP and deal magic damage. Death recap will tell you he did x percent of "mixed" damage on his Q, a pittance of AA damage, and some magic damage on his other spells. He has Cinderhulk, Berserker's Boots, Iceborne Gauntlets, and Black Cleaver. Go figure that one out.
Warwick's Q does magic damage. His ult does magic damage. His AA's do both physical and magic damage. But those will always show as basic attacks. He's building nothing but AS and/or tank items. If you're not familiar with WW's abilities, what would you build if you looked at the death recap and saw 20% magic damage from ult, 10% magic from Q, and 70% basic attacks?
Shyvana's Q does physical damage and scales from AD. Her W does magic damage and also scales from AD. Her E does magic damage and scales from AP. Her ult deals magic damage and scales from AP. She has Cinderhulk, Boots, and Black Cleaver. How build?
Nasus' Siphoning Strike does physical damage and scales off his passive stacks. He is almost always full-on tank and relies on his passive stacks to do damage. Death recap will help here. But looking at his itemization will do exactly bupkiss because again, mixed damage type tank.
Ramus gets bonus AA damage based on his armor. His abilities scale with AP or armor and all do magic damage. He has a Cinderhulk and Thornmail. Which do you itemize against?
Though in many cases they do match, just because an ability scales off of AD, does not mean it deals physical damage, or vice versa.
I'm more concerned about

I simply cannot upvote this enough.
As a first-order approximation, they could at least show magic/physical/true.
I don't know exactly how the program is set up, but presumably, there's a function that gets called to apply damage to a Champion. It seems like it'd be very simple to add to that function and have it also send the value to a damage record. So, Garen hits you with his sword, you take 60 physical damage, it adds "GAREN - 12:04 - 60 physical, 0 magical, 0 true" to the record. When you die, it can just process back the previous X seconds, or count back for Y Health, or whatever. It seems like there's something wrong with the system that figures out the source of incoming damage. So maybe the record just gets "12:04 - 60 physical, 0 magical, 0 true". Fine. You can still put together a rough "you died to 70% magical and 30% physical" estimate.
I know that LoL's code is notoriously twisted and weird ("coded as minions"), but I think a lot of us would settle for that in the meantime. It'd be cool to know exactly what Champions and abilities killed me, but when I'm looking to buy at the shop, all I really want to know is what the damage split was.
I agree, I care less about what champions killed me than i do what the source of the damage was...
The enemy
hit me with
magic damage. He just smacked me with
apparently
I don't know why I found that hysterical, but thank you xD
Actually I wrote Riot About this along with an issue about disconnects in ranked. They sent me an old link to address the ranked issue which was only more disheartening and didn't address this at all.
I do agree it needs to be fixed, dying in a matter of 10 seconds going from 2500 health to 0 and only showing 800 dp worth of what hurt you is not accurate at all.
I saw in a comment below that you should be able to judge based on the champions you are playing with, Yes this is true but its much easier to see what killed you when and adjust. Just my opinion.
I don't even bother to look at that. I look what the other team is building and I build off tjat instead
once i was killed by an ezreals E according to death recap... funny thing is that the only ezreal there was was on our team
wish i could upvote into infinity. this needs to be fixed among a million other things. good luck on that though.. lcs big plays
a minion once used arcane barrage on me to kill me as i fought against a mundo ah yea good tiems good tiems gg rito gg
Honestly, I would just prefer a death recap hotkey so that I can see the the recap from my last death anytime in-game.

[Myself- 1 true damage]
Solution here is obviously to stop hitting yourself.
Solution here is obviously to stop hitting yourself.
But he did negative damage to himself. If thats the case, he should keep hitting himself.
Sunfire cape did 6000 damage...seems legit
Agree big time. Riot please fix. So many times I die from, let's say 2k damage in 2 seconds, and 300 damage is displayed in the death recap. I would love to have a compilation of Death Recap screenshots to post.
We have a definition of "in combat". It's used for everything from "does X champion get a kill for me dying to turret/baron/etc. or was I executed" to Graves' passive to Warmog's Armor and Boots of Mobility. So why don't they just do death recap as "damage since last time I wasn't in combat"?
Let's say Malzahar and Irelia unleashed their abilities on you and were getting ready to finish you off, when Garen flashed in over the wall to killsteal with his ult.
Killer -- Garen: 0% Physical Damage 100% Magic Damage 0% True Damage 10% of Total Damage Received
Assist -- Malzahar: 98% Magic Damage 2% Physical Damage 0% True Damage 50% of Total Damage Received
Assist -- Irelia: 45% Physical Damage 40% Magic Damage 15% True Damage 40% of Total Damage Received
In this scenario, Malzahar and Irelia used some spells and auto attacks on you and did 90% of the HP you had before the fight. Then Garen flashed over the wall and used Demacian Justice to execute you, stealing the kill from Irelia and Malzahar. Garen used no other abilities on you besides Demacian Justice.
This scenario would actually throw the player off, but not really that much. They would be going "Okay, Malzahar did half the damage to me and almost all of it was magic. Irelia did some magic damage too, and Garen did nothing but magic damage. I need some magic resist."
What's actually going on is more like, "Okay, Malzahar and Irelia did a lot of magic damage to me, then Garen decided to be a dick and steal the kill with his flash and ult. I'm gonna build some MR so Malz and Irelia don't kill me again. Garen's just a dick, and he's like 2/10 anyway so he's not doing much physical damage."
Pft thats nothing. Yesterday I figured out that Azir's wall is actually a champion, and that it does a hell of a lot of auto attack damage.
I agree so much, i just made a post about this the other day. but nobody cared :(
