When you make that video, you better think very carefully about how you traverse this issue...

This is a very heated topic in the league community, and if you truly make picking a champion (because that is what this boils down to) a reportable offense, you can well be on the way to alienating whole sub-communities within the league community.

Now, I speak as a darius fanatic who has had no problems going darius mid in ranked quite a few times, much to the chagrin of some players, even in the games where I snowballed to victory. I know some people try to make it out to be a small issue with fringe cases, but being off meta is a lot bigger than many people realize.

Do tread carefully, this will be a landmark decision of sorts because it can truly ruin the gaming experience for many legitimate players if you decide to continue with your philosophy of reportable champion picks/playstyles REGARDLESS OF SUCCESS RATE.

Spend time to deliberate, and think hard about the answer please. Not everyone is going to jump on a bandwagon, and not everyone will stick to a company that wants to force its way of "non-toxic gameplay" on them. And yes, you should work under the assumption that ranked gameplay's ultimate goal is nothing other than victory, and that victory brings happiness in ranked. "Fun" should be left for modes other than ranked, ranked is about competition and winning, and when I play ranked, I dont give a damn what happens, I play because I want to win. I'll play ARAMs and 3v3s when I want to screw around.

Completely agree, As a morde main i get hate when i hover over him, even if i go 9/2/ 10 and we lose its my fault, for picking "non meta" and ppl have reported me for it. havent received any ban warnings for playing a champ i like and i hope i never do.

I was thrashed a couple times during some of my ghost flash darius mid games. Interestingly enough some of those games I would end out multi-killing in teamfights. Honestly, if there's any toxicity to be had in this issue, it's with assholes trying to dictate how something should be played.

I kid you not, I got flamed IN AN ARAM, for going crit jhin instead of lethality. I wanted to go crit jhin, and I actually got fucking flamed in an ARAM... Amazing.

Riot doesn't ban people for playing off meta picks they have said this numerous times...they aren't gonna start banning people for playing darius mid or something unless you're actually trolling.

this issue seems to be case of riot saying one thing and doing another. They lie. But this video will be the final, official, verdict for a while perhaps.

Singed support with smite/ Nunu support with smite. These are examples of playstyles and champion choices that got their players banned due to being reported.

Nope, after talking with player support here on the boards and correcting the communication problems that were giving his teammates a bad experience the Singed is still going strong. The Nunu has the chance to do the same.

They arent being banned for the champs they pick. They are being banned for "creating a negative experience for their teammates" you will not get banned for playing off meta. It's that simple.

They're being banned because they're being reported excessively. Any off meta pick can be described as creating a negative experience for teamates when that's the criteria.

You can pull up the Support Page all you want on this one, but Riot's ignoring everything written there. The website says you can't be reported for going off meta, for having a tactical disagreement, nor for not typing in chat (pings are fine). Yet when it comes to these verdicts Riot says they're banned for not typing in chat and for tactical disagreement, and they site the number of reports (generated by playing off meta strategies) as why they looked into it.

I disagree. Someone going a strange pick in mid lane is only going to have small effect on how one plays in top, jungle, or bot lane.

This is different than going support and leaving your ADC for the entirety of the lane'ing phase to try an off-meta tactic. At that point, you are forcing the ADC to also play an off-meta playstyle. Because now they're in a 1v2 (or 1v3 when a jungler comes to gank) situation as a squishy that often needs hand-holding while they build up farm.

I think you're onto something with Support/ADC playing an off meta strategy forcing the other into an off meta strategy as well. It's a very valid point. I wish had been brought up in the initial explanation Riot gave, because I think that makes a lot more sense than what they were saying.

The issue is, people can turn the argument on it's head and say that the ADC has no right to force their support to stay in the meta when the support is not comfortable with it.

There's no real solution where everyone is going to be happy. Which is why Riot has chosen to focus on the quantity. In this Nunu case, he showed a consistent unwillingness to adhere or adapt to what his teammates wanted, but forced his teammates to change their style each time. If he adapted some and let his teammates adapt in others, I doubt he would have been audited for a manual review in the first place.

On an individual level, when there's a disagreement about how the lane would be played (when either player can throw a wrench into the works as far how the other is forced to play), I feel like Riot needs to say what the default option is in situations where there is no agreement.
