I actually just realized that Dynamic Queue is Neapolitan Icecream.

Some people like strawberry, some people like vanilla, and some people like chocolate, and some like all 3. So they decided to combine all of them together. Now you only get 33% of what you used to like instead of just plain strawberry, vanilla, or chocolate.

One point of contention... with Neapolitan.. at the end of it all, you still get Icecream.

With SQ V DQ, you either get what you enjoy... or you don't. Not everyone gets icecream :-(.

LegacyDAP3 votes

That's the thing though they try to make it appeal to Dynamic and Solo players, so they're trying to make it like that, but it just isn't enjoyable.

You're still playing a fun video game. That's your icecream. It just means you're getting lemon icecream. Fuck lemon icecream.

But I like lemon ice cream...

I think it would be more like:

"I've only ever had strawberry for 5 years, it is what I'm used to, and is now my favorite flavor. I also HATE chocolate, , and Vanilla was a decent addition. Now I've lost most of my strawberry, I'm stuck with chocolate even though I don't like it at all, and I'd be fine without Vanilla if I got more strawberry again.".

Except some people love chocolate/Dynamic Queue(?), and vanilla, which I assume is ranked 5v5(?), was also a huge mode for many people. Meaning that your view is just what a certain faction of strawberry lovers would think. Riot is having to balance between all of these conflicting factions of people. Just because a majority of people want Solo Queue (if there is a majority, there's no research that would reach that far and the Boards/reddit is a vocal minority of the playerbase), doesn't mean that Riot can ignore the people who latched onto Dynamic Queue for whatever reason.

(Please don't downvote me because I said some people like DQ. If you have a major problem, reply. Otherwise, please don't try to kill the comment)

What it means is you make significant changes that appease as many people as possible. There's nothing wrong with a solo q/duo & trio q/team 5s q instead of Dynamic. 4 man premades should simply never be allowed in any game more. Furthermore this is a pretty easy and simple change to implement.

There is a reason its NOT being implemented and that is time and money. Riot won't invest the time or money into things players would actually like. They just do whatever the hell they want to do.

That leaves a pretty big disconnect between customer and company. A gulf that has only widened over the years.

The thing wrong is that queue times and/or match quality would get significantly worse. Splitting what was already suboptimal into even smaller pieces isn't going to work perfectly. It's pretty simple, but and it would appease everyone at first, but the people playing against Diamonds as Silvers are going to complain after a while.

You misunderstand completely. If you have a solo only q. A duo/trio only q. And a 5s q. You have none of the issues of dynamic queue. None. You won't have premades facing all solos. You still allow players to play as groups. Queue times are only relevant to the queue you play in and will be much better for some and less good for others.

The match quality literally cannot get any worse than it is now. Its just not possible. Its as bad is is possible to be.

SanKakU2 votes

For ranked I have no doubt this is how it should be, but for regular draft games I'm not sure if it matters.

RoodToob1 votes

I just want to comment on queue times. People already complain about those a bunch, this makes it much worse.

Why? because the queue times of solos are longer due to there being other queues that people play in, the queues of 2/3s are longer because they can't match 3/1/1 or 2/2/1 or 2/1/1/1 or whatever, they now have to be 2/3s 5s though is just now what ranked 5s were before, so i don't see much of a queue time issue there

Queue times increased this season BECAUSE of the addition of premade parties to ranked. It makes pairings more difficult. Instead of having say 80% solo players and 20% duos to find matches for now it has to mix and match from 10% 5s, 20% 4s, 20% 3s, 20% 2s, and 30% solos.

It also made queue times increase because of the variance allowed in matchmaking for your premade. Since its possible to queue in a 1000 MMR range as a group its difficult to make matches for teams with wider gaps.

If you make it so there is a duo/trio q, a solo q, and a 5s q then those times will be as long as they are going to be because that's how many players play the mode. Those who like to party up will play 5s or 2/3. Those who like solo will solo. The fastest queue times would likely be for duo/trio queue where matchmaking is pretty simple, each duo is paired with a trio.

CaliburnKing2 votes

Queue times increased this season BECAUSE of the addition of premade parties to ranked.

That's not entirely true. Yes, premades attribute to an increase in queue times, but the fact that not only did they tinker with the numbers to ensure that people get their primary more often, but compile that with the fact that there's always one role (supports) in short supply, queue times are going to be atrocious.

Karn Bishop2 votes

What? its much easier to balance and slot solo, 2, 3, 5's then it is to try to do that with a 4 man because the duo cant slot with the 4 man and neither can the 3 man slot with the 4 man which leaves you with the solo player vs 2 mans/3mans which can slot together while also slotting in with solo's much much easier to balance and it also removes 4 mans being able to surrender a winnable game.

Mandang02 votes

Just a reminder that everything is a "vocal minority" until you can prove otherwise. You think the people who replied to Riot's survey weren't a vocal minority too?

That term is so overused and it's really just a lazy way of trying to ignore an argument. Proof? Surveys of my own? Nope, but I'm absolutely sure that the opinion I'm hearing is in disagreement with that of the majority!

Yes, except the strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla are all blended together into one muddy, indistinguishable flavor and some players will get bowls while others will be served their ice cream in an ash tray.

The fuck you talking about? Strawberry is the best. Especially when there's chunks of strawberry in it.

redniwediS5 votes

Some people get what they like, since some like all 3.

Also some people could not be a little bitch and just eat the damn ice cream. If you don't like one of the flavors don't buy neapolitan, just find a brand of ice cream that has the one flavor you like.

LegacyDAP5 votes

That's the thing though. There is only neapolitan, so what the fuck do I do now? I just buy the neapolitan I guess. Complaining about something that is a problem isn't being a "little bitch."

redniwediS2 votes

There are other brands of ice cream out there, and I'm sick and tired of people eating my neopolitan and leaving the strawberry ice cream in the container. If you don't like strawberry stop eating my neopolitan!

Also I'm only partially talking about dynamic queue.

LegacyDAP4 votes

So basically the only option I have left is to quit League to get the ice cream I want? OH BOY WHAT A SURPRISE! I never would have expected that I had to leave to get what I wanted. Hence, it's a shitty business decision.

redniwediS5 votes

Maybe it's a shitty business decision, but when you want to stop making vanilla and want to start making neopolitan you're going to lose a few customers regardless. It's a difficult choice, and while it will always be shitty for you it might actually pay off for them.

Who knows, maybe the market is prime for neopolitan at the moment.

I find it hard to believe this is paying off for them.

They are pissing off the devoted "hardcore" fans for the more causal ones (that aren't likely to spend the 1k I have over about 5+ years, let alone play for another 5+ years). They are getting pretty bad PR from bronze to Pro players to the point players are being asked about "how bad do YOU find DQ" from like every interviewer even still.

Sure they are getting a "Win" in the short term, but they are very obviously hurting themselves in the long term. So many games have done this (not the exact thing, but the catering to the casual at the cost of the hardcore). It has never paid off, and I don't see this suddenly being the exception. I just bring up Star Wars Galaxies as the example every time of them doing a similar thing to make x and y more accessible, and then their game died because they annoyed the hardcore fans, and the casual fans did casual fan things and left.

The Whamboozler5 votes

I don't even think they're winning in the short term. Most of my friends list gave up the game over how crap it's become. They were all pretty casual folks who didn't grind ranked or anything like that and they still hated the changes in the game lately and left. The "casual" players are the ones least attached to the game and most likely to bail on it over minor irritations for newer games like FF15 and Overwatch.

They aren't even close to the same game, or the same level of strategy. Just because Overwatch is new and shiny doesn't mean I will suddenly replace it for LoL. I like LoL for a reason, and Overwatch doesn't give like 95% of the stuff that I like about LoL.

I like LoL, why would I go play a shooter? I don't like shooters, and the other "mobas" suck in comparison (I've played since 2010 so maybe I'm a liiiiiittle biased).

The problem (for me at least) is that it doesn't at all scratch that "competitive AND fun" itch. It is just the fun mindless shooter, and I've got enough mindless games. It has much less strategy, much less established balance and gameplay, sort of some lore, and it's Blizzard, so in 6 months they will just ignore it for another game (see HoTs and how it is going downhill so fast ESPN dropped it and multiple bigger name teams are pulling out because Blizzard has gotten SUPER lazy with it since Overwatch came out).

The Whamboozler2 votes

Yeah see... the "fun" part is the part that I'm into. I haven't had fun in league in months. It's like a freaking JOB.. and one where you lack a fair chance most of the time AND all of your co-workers will bitch you out over any mistake.

I'll take my FUN mindless shooter.... it's even gonna have a competitive mode soon for the tryhard sorts who think an in-game ranking is something to aspire to.

Who cares if Overwatch isn't the same? Deitrix has already made the most important factor clear, it's fun. And to be honest I'd rather play something that's fun, rather than something that's been dismantled and rebuilt brick by painstaking break whilst the developers sit atop their ivory tower and flick cashew nuts at their players while yelling "This is your fault!"

So it's closer to the analogy of having strawberry ice cream, and someone just peed in it (for those that don't like DQ that is). You still have your same flavor...but if you reaaaaaally wanna still eat it, you gotta deal with the other...flavor as well.

dbddbs5 votes

I'm confused. What do those who queue up with friends NOT get? That is, what do premades still want that they are not getting?

Karn Bishop4 votes

They want higher key drop rates for putting up with solo players that yell at them because they are too busy making fun of the solo player over voice comms, they feel that they DESERVE that bonus and that solo's should get even less rewards including less LP on a win and larger LP losses on a loss.

PhDs Nuts5 votes

I think a better analogy is that we already had neopolitan. There were flavors for everyone. They removed one of the flavors that some of the players and all the bots ate (vanilla = dominion), and then raved about how more people were eating chocolate. Then they decided it was time to update chocolate. Rather than tweak the recipe, they just changed the flavor. Now everyone has to eat bubblegum.
