"gg ez"

LegacyDAP··202 votes·9,850 views

I really hope you don't do this. If you do I hope you get banned.

This is probably one of the most toxic things you can do after a game.

**EDIT: **The only reason I made this post was to defend my friend. First time Maokai yesterday destroyed by a Riven. She ended the game with GG EZ. He didn't even want to play League after that, because he felt like he couldn't be good with Maokai. So I may sound sensitive, but that's only because that guy made my friend feel like he was garbage at the game.

**EDIT 2: **This could probably be fixed if mutes went over to post game chat, so we didn't have to hear what anybody thought of how we played post game. Everybody has bad games, but that doesn't mean we need to know how awful we were.

**EDIT 3: **This community will be the downfall of itself. First one guy loses the concept of sportsmanship. Everybody will. I'll probably leave by then, but I'll still watch the community tear itself apart. gg ez ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

**EDIT 4: **This is probably the last edit I'll have unless Riot Lyte responds. But I recently asked him his opinion on the term "gg ez." He has not responded though, so I'll make an edit when he responds saying if he finds it acceptable or not.

You can ask him the question here. http://ask.fm/riotlyte

Are you saying that competent Ezreal players don't deserve to be congratulated?

For shame.

Pikmints14 votes

Would it be correct to say that a joke is beating a dead horse? Or is there another phrase that is better suited towards overused jokes?

Ez players have good games? Since when?

That one patch before Ezreal got Runeglaive nerfed.

I say it from time to time and I have no fear of getting banned. This is because I have a pair of criteria to look at before saying it. If you follow these two rules you can say ggez without having to worry!

  1. Be part of a full premade.
  2. Lose horribly.

Follow these two rules and you can turn ggez from being insulting into a small bit of comedy everyone can enjoy.

Noski74 votes

or if you end up winning a 55+ minute game. At that point saying gg ez becomes comical, because of how hard the match was.

Mecha MaIphite15 votes

It's only taken as a joke when the person actually loses, saying it after a long game is still bm.

gg ez

HayRoss23 votes

The only time you can say it is if you lost horribly

LegacyDAP12 votes

It's a joke at that point. If you're using it to hurt somebody's feelings. Then it's just rude.

There was a Vayne who got carried the whole game, and at the end she said "Gg ez". When confronted about her carry-ment, as due to the "Gg ez" she responded "I know, I just say it because it brings out even more salt".

I can't not think of a single more douchy Vayne than that one. Purposely egging on the losing team (us) to bring out harsh feelings. In other words, a bully.

Balisan21 votes

Hardly the most toxic thing, but it is a remarkably asinine thing to do.

LegacyDAP7 votes

True, it's toxic though even if it's not the most toxic thing. It just makes you look like a huge jerk who likes like they're good at the game, but are still in silver.

55120218 votes

Saying "GG EZ" IS being toxic, report every little shyt that dare say this when the game end, because its an insults against the losing team.

Towboat42110 votes

I say it when the enemy spends the whole game yelling at me i my friends in all chat. I lose compassion when people are toxic.

Irelia Bot8 votes

Only when I just got my ass handed to me.

Bhagswag8 votes

If that pisses you off, you should be banned.

Obviously, you're not ready to interact with people on the internet, lol.

LegacyDAP11 votes

So it's my fault that somebody has to be a prick over the internet? Trust me I don't even care that much about it. But if somebody has to go out of there way to make somebody's day worse they're on my report list.

KVbqbFsC8e8 votes

If "gg ez" is enough to make someones day worse then,

they're not ready to interact with people on the internet

LegacyDAP7 votes

It's not even that. It's common courtesy. If you see a kid fall are you gonna laugh at him? You don't even have to help him back up. You could just stand back, and somebody else will. It's that you went out of your way to be inconsiderate.

Biffolo1 votes

To be fair, laughing at something you perceive to be funny can be partially involuntary.

LegacyDAP3 votes

True. I probably shouldn't say laughing, but more of making fun of them. That's a my bad on my part.

Plus, it's always okay to laugh WITH somebody

Bhagswag2 votes

Let's analyse this.

You lost a game, enemy says "gg ez".

That's four letters, tell me, why does it bother you? If you are too sensitive, such that four letters, with no other substance behind them, you should probably leave lobby soon after. Of course, always mute enemy right from the start, so you don't get more butthurt.

50000000000000002 votes

Bitch slap only takes like 1 second out of your entire life. Why should that bother you? Obviously you're too sensitive.

It's not the length of what's said that matters. "gg ez" is insisting how much effort you put into that game and disrespecting your opponent. Would it be fair of after a boxing match, the winner spits on the face of the loser and say "gg ez?"

Bhagswag1 votes

Bitch slap is physical violence. Spit is physical violence. Rethink your comparison, please.

I've been told GGEZ after a game; why don't I bitch about it?

50000000000000002 votes

Bitch slap and spitting is physical, but by no means meant to injure the opponent. It's a form of disrespect before it is physical violence.

"gg ez" is basically saying "you guys suck and this game was so easy." How is this not toxic? Maybe it doesn't bother some people, but how can you not agree that this is toxic? Especially after a long game where everyone tried their best and were even until the last team fight, saying "gg ez" is disrespectful and offensive.

The game is full of toxic shits. It reminds me of diablo back in the days

This game has gone to shit

Lugg7 votes

90% of the time, the idiot saying that was playing a hard counter to his lane opponent.

LegacyDAP33 votes

90% of the time the guy loses lane and gets carried.

500000000000000011 votes

So 81% of the time the guy uses a hard counter, loses lane, and gets carried?

Solari Fortune6 votes

I respect you as a player throughout the whole game, even if they are playing things I hate (Riven Vayne Morde come to mind) Yet the second you type those 2 words. That respect flew out the window faster than 10000 move speed Hecarim.

The SandMan NDS6 votes

At some point we have to acknowledge as a community that it's not okay to be jerk just because it's a game, or the internet, or that we shouldn't care. Being rude isn't okay. People who are rude should be called out for it.

Should we let it get to us? Of course not. Should that be enough of a reason not to call people out for doing it? NO. Racism, sexism, ignorance and meanness in all forms should be actively fought. To stand by and say nothing, to let it happen in front of you, is to enable it.

Your desire to be jackass does not mean the people around you have to just deal with it.

Adanim6 votes

Anyone who uses the reply "If you are offended by something over the internet, then you shouldn't be here" is trying to justify their behavior. I have 0 respect for people who treat other people poorly, especially those who do it just because it's "over the internet".

News flash: You should be gracious and kind everywhere. If you say "gg ez" with the intention of ruining someone else's day, or by telling them that they are bad because you want to feel better about yourself, then you are a disgrace of a human being.

The true character of an individual is defined and revealed by how they treat those who can do nothing for them. If you want to act like an asshole on the internet, fine, but no matter how nice and caring you are in real life, you are an asshole because no one here can do anything for you.

I just had a Riven player do this to me.. making fun of me and saying she was awesome and spamming her level 5 emblem at every moment. Like dude.. Your playing riven.. "she takes skill" no she takes AD items. She could burst me down to nothing and get a shield when I can kill her and with 10 health can ruin my 300 health.. Riven broken "gg ez" My asshole sensor is tingling...

I consider it okay if the winning team is being assess all game, and say it just as they think they're going to be assured a victory, only to be aced at the last minute by the losing team. It's karma.

LegacyDAP6 votes

I understand that. I think reporting them and having them being banned, and have them lose that match is enough karma.

I have been saying gg ez after all my matches. For over 2 years. I haven't been banned once. So...

LegacyDAP16 votes

Well you're a special snowflake aren't you? You and the other half of the community does it. Barely winning a game and getting carried or not.

LemurKick4 votes

People get offended to easily, is someone saying "gg ez" really that big of a deal? I get that it's rude, but you shouldn't let something as small as that get to you.

LegacyDAP4 votes

It usually doesn't, but after a long rough day. The last thing I want to hear from somebody is how easy it was to win. It's like what the fuck was the point in saying that in the first place? To make me feel bad?

A Miss Fortune4 votes

Is it really that offensive? Personally I say it a lot even when I lose a game really hard as a joke. It's not even to be offensive.

Mordepool3 votes

You can't tell emotional inflexion from text. How you said it is up to the reader who is generally emotional on the defeat and view it as a taunt ( which was its original use)

Kofei4 votes

the only time i say "gg ez" is when the enemy team has been toxic most the of the game and assuming they have us beat, but then we turn it around.

BigPooStorm3 votes

The thing is people say it should be a bannable offense because it goes against the summoners code of being humble in defeat. Well here's another thing a lot of people do when they're about to win the game, dance/taunt at the enemy spawn before the nexus dies. Taunting an enemy before winning isn't being humble in defeat, so what now? Should taunting the enemy before winning, a game mechanic Riot has given players be a bannable offense? LoL players are being such babies about this, if you get that upset over GG EZ, you probably shouldn't be playing the game. Smack talk like this exists in literally every other game, and players get along just fine, but for some reason, LoL players feel entitled to be offended and have other players banned for saying "GG EZ".

I find it funny how LoL players make threads on Reddit and here crying about toxicity, AFK's/trolls, people saying "GG EZ", and how RIot isn't doing enough, then when Riot comes out and says things like :

  • No voice comms because it increases toxicity
  • No sandbox mode because it might increase toxicity when players expect one another to grind sandbox mode

players act so surprised, like "WTF is Riot thinking???". Well, they gave you exactly what you were complaining about. When all they hear non stop is complaining about toxicity, and even about little things like "GG EZ", you get decisions centered around preventing toxicity that impede progress in the game (voice chat and sandbox mode). You can't eat your cake and have it too.

"Be Humble in Victory, and Gracious in Defeat"

The taunts are for fun, but using them instead of ending a game is not being humble in any way, its making fun of the enemy. Therefore, it violates the summoners code. A team at the pro level literally got fined and punished because they spammed emotes instead of ending the game.

It's almost as if being a decent human being and being nice is a plague or something. It's almost as if being nice over the internet means you are cursed or something considering how many people use it to justify being an asshole.

Cloak an Dagger3 votes

This is the definition of adding insult to injury. I personally don't really care if someone says it when they kill nexus or after a surrender, but I know some people can be more sensitive to this kind of bad sportsmanship especially if it was a 60+ minute 4v5 (happens sometimes in ranked). For all the people trying to justify this poor sportsmanship you should probably hop off the bandwagon of

Either git gud or stop being such a pussy. Problem solved /thread

because it's a bad representation of the community to newer players. The ignorant low effort statement above is a prime example. This is what it says paraphrased "I don't care about grammar, other's feelings, or forming my own opinion so I'm just going to type a 9 word derogatory sentence and fit in because that's what everyone else is doing".

Typically when I see a "gg ez" I think it's always after a very close game and I usually kind of chuckle because it was the opposite case. In conclusion a "gg wp" is more appropriate, and more encouraging. I don't see it as often as "gg ez" which is kind of sad.

TL;DR Not everyone has a heart void of human emotions like 90% of players (according to the responses in this thread) and we should be considerate of them.
