Can we talk about Nunu for a moment?

SaltyToplaneGoat··2 votes·1,161 views

Ok, we all know the champ isn't in a good spot right now.

Outdated, clunky, no real identity, barely skill synergy... If they were to rework him they would probably scrap everything but the ult (and keep that one probably for nostalgia reasons only...). "Yeti Rider" sounds not that bad on paper - you would probably expect someone riding a beast like mega-gnar. Not a snowball throwing shorty on the back of a white miniature-bigfoot that for some reason does nothing in combat despite being physically far superior to a normal man. All the yeti does right now is biting some jungle monsters...

The problem with reworking Nunu: in terms of re-design he's even more work than Sion because thematically Nunu is... nothing. Or a weird mess like some design experiment that has started with some unique idea but somehow at some point something went terrible wrong and no one has ever bothered to clean up the mess.

The problem is not "how do we make him a better champ?" but "What kind of champ is he supposed to be in the first place?". I don't even bother asking if there are any Nunu players, because there are probably none... but all you other guys, what do you think? ^^

Good Nunu can steal all the buffs whole game, look this game from Trick2g. He is also good with any ADC that scales with AS like Kog, Vayne, Kalista.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Well, if you let Nunu steal those buffs it's kinda your own fault. Watch the jungle timers and get the buffs as they spawn. Apart from that there's nothing much of worth Nunu can steal in the jungle. The only camp that would be actually worth it would be taking big krug and leaving the small to prevent a respawn.

You can't tell me that missing wolves or birbs has ever really bothered you jungleing. In the same time I gank a lane and help my team win - something that's a bit more usefull than farming enemy camps...

DatPikachuTho1 votes

If you don't have vision of the buff when Nunu takes it, you won't have the timer on the buff. That's the strength of Nunu - you can't be everywhere at once, and when you're gone, Nunu will be there, stealing yo kids, yo wife, and yo husbands.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Like I said, take them as they spawn, as it's usually done (maybe not in bronze, but usually junglers start paying attention in mid-silver. Just my experience tho).

And nunu cannot counterjungle so early you can't get both buffs and the timers ^^ And then you take the buffs again, and again and again and the yet will strave, because he doesn't have the timers then ^^

But he can't do much apart form hoping that the enemy jungler is a noob who's not familiar with basic jungleing.

Also... if I gave you the theme: "frostmage riding a yeti..." then you would surely create something WAY more awesome than what nunu is right now in your head. Kinda a mega-gna r+ lissandra mix that would equal AWESOMENESS. Current Nunu is not awesome... more the opposite of that...

DatPikachuTho1 votes

You can try taking them as they spawn, but what if Nunu starts in your jungle? I've had a ton of games where I warded my enemy's buffs at the start to see which buff they start, then I'll start at the other end of their jungle.

Just the other day, I saw the enemy was starting on their gromp->Golem->Wolves, so I started on their Krugs, then took their Red, then went right to my Gromp->Blue, then went to my red. By the time they noticed their red was gone, I was already taking mine as well, giving them no chance to even get a red at all and they were out half their jungle. Then you just keep their jungle warded and keep taking their buffs because you know where the enemy jungler is.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Then you had the amazing luck that the enemy team had zero cover - again, it wasn't your skill with the champion, but the enemy making a mistake (a bloody stupid one if you ask me). You could pull this off with almost every jungler... some might have to recall after the red and then proceed with the gromp, but hell, if I can pull this off with a Singed it can't be that hard xD

Also, what are you going to do if the jungler suddenly takes YOUR camps? I wouldn't even notice while you run through the enemy jungle. Nunu is not the fastest after all, nor can he actually chase intruders or fight them without help. Nunu has only one ability for combat... from a giant beast from a harsh enviorment AND a frost-mage that's a bit... dunno, meh ^^

And even if Nunu is a brat, just look at Annie ^^

DatPikachuTho1 votes

What are you smoking? Nunu has an awesome clear.

Nunu isn't specifically built for combat - he's meant for map awareness and objective control. And he absolutely can chase intruders - his E has a pretty low cooldown, especially if you took CDR masteries, and it has a great point-and-click slow. It works in reverse too - Nunu is hard to chase because he just E's you and walks away laughing. He won't be 1v1ing anybody, but he can get away all the same and can also secure kills for the team. He's a support/tank jungler - and he does his job very well.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Nah, other junglers can keep up with him. Maybe not exactly as good, but most of them have far superior gank & teamfight power on top of that.

Oh a slow... Oh hey a wall, let me use my mobility tool, one moment... aaaaaand I'm saved. Or I just engage hard on him and hope I can kill him. Because either way he's tanky then I just ignore him because I get no damage anyway and go somwhere else (farm other camps, ganks, etc.) or he build AP, making himself super easy to kill ( I love squishy junglers as Kha... always isolated in the jungle ^^)

Yes, he might have strong clear - but sadly that's none of the factors that make a champ especially awesome, identifyable or fun to play.

DatPikachuTho1 votes

I think I see the problem here.

You're saying that all of the things that Nunu excels at makes him not fun. Okay, I can get that - your idea of fun is doing things that Nunu doesn't do. But that doesn't mean Nunu isn't good - he just has a playstyle that you find boring. It's completely subjective.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Dunno, if I want to play PvE most of the game I wouldn't pick LoL ^^ You know what's cool? Duels in the jungle while counter/getting counterjungled, ganking, scheming a plan with a lane partner to score a kill, trying to time a bait right, etc.

That's what a PvP game is made for. Rightclicking jungle mobs? Pfff if I want that I go play Diablo or PoE xD

Also, he IS boring. Apart from his ultimate I start to snore when I see his kit... 2 non-direct combat skills, one slow and boring projectile mechanic (which has counterplay issues - the only reason Ap-Nunu can even function SOMEWHAT).

Outdated and badly designed, 0/10, please rework ^^

DatPikachuTho1 votes

Dude, you're just complaining because Nunu isn't a carry jungler. Just go play carry junglers. Or better yet, go play ADC.

Not every jungler can carry. Sometimes, they just need to support the team. This is PvP, but it's also a team game.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

If that was my problem I wouldn't play Singed jungle xD

NoMonku2 votes

Nunu is fine where he is now. He is the counter jungle GOD. Late game he offers incredible zone control while also buffing his ADC to be an even greater threat. You probably just don't like the fact that he doesn't offer the same kind of power that a LeeSin and want him changed to fit along those lines, but that isn't where his focus is.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

That doesn't change the fact that he's a thematic mess. I personally cringe whenever I see a Nunu in play (which luckily doesn't happen often).

Ok, so we got this giant snow-mountain beast, surely awesome in comba - ah wait no, yeti just eats jungle monsters, does nothing else. So, the maybe the guy on his back will do something awesome... snowball flies out. Ok, how about his W then isn't that a buff or someth - ah no wait I don't even realize when I'm actually buffed because it makes no actual difference in terms of game perception.

The only somehow good thing in his kit is the ult - a skill most champs can evade easily before it's even HALF charged...

NoMonku1 votes

With this you seem to only care about being able to do damage with him. He ISN'T about fighting and brawling others. Not EVERY champion has to be able to go butt heads with each other. If you want a ice related champion that is more fight focused, go playSejuani or Lissandra .

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

"Not EVERY champion has to be able to go butt heads with each other."

Yepp, that class of champions we call supports: HELPING OTHERS butt head against each other. Correction: ACTIVELY helping in a fight and not just farming some stat buffs in the jungle - because that's pretty much all Nunu does. If I want to clear the enemy jungle I'm better of picking Rek'Sai anways...

he is THE counter jungler that also happens to secure ALL objectives

master yi op

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

I'm not sure if an objective is worth it if your pick baisically forces your team into playing 4vs5.

Also this is what the players made of him, not his actual theme. Not that his counterjungle is that strong... His clear speed isn't the best either. Most tanks with a item 3751 usually breeze through the jungle and not even leave one single camp behind for Nunu to take. Also they can gank better since Nunu's ganks are weak to medicore at best - no matter if you compare him to tank or to ap junglers.

Not sure how you come to Master Yi tho...

nunu is a fat tank that provides a super strong slow and a free smite, he dosn't have any damage besides his ult, or unless he goes ap (then hes just squishy).

so...its not exactly 4v5 lol

but that itself is alot. with his slow, he can help his adc kite those dudes after him. eg, xin, udyr, shyv etc. People cant out run him without use of a dash or a moment speed boost (and ofcourse with these escapes on cool down, it makes theses champions more vulnerable), and because hes really fat with lots of sustain, u cant really push out him out too easily to stop throwing those annoying snow balls at you. Also, When i say counter jungling i dont mean clearing camps at enemy side, I just mean, taking the big monster worth the most gold (just gotta kill 1 monster). Annnnnd finally, baron control, getting 5 dragon stacks is much more easier, meaning by, u can still do theses objectives despite the enemy trying to contest.

but at the end of the day, hes like other not so popular champions simply because his effectiveness is based on your and enemies team compositions (e.g anivia, yorik, poppy), If hes vsing garen, master yi, morgana etc. anyone who can simply ignore him....theres not much he can do

how did i come to master yi? maan hes soo good, idk why people don't play him

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

"there's not much he can do"

And here's another problem. Why do you focus a tank in teamfights? Because the tank forces you to do so... A tank's abilities are basicially "OY I'M YOUR OPPONENT! NO TOUCHING MA CARRY!"

Nunu doesn't do that as a tank, and if you build him pure ap he's squishy enough to get insta-deleted in every teamfight... while contributing less damage than the ap support... (unless the enemy is stupid enough to stand in a fully charged ult)

well thats the thing right, he provides utility, not damage or hard cc.....just consistent slows. His strength is helping adc stay alive, and taking objectives......its no way a 4v5 lol

You are not sure if an objective is worth.

Playing Nunu just carried me to Gold yesterday.

When you get 5 dragons and 2 barons by 20 minutes consistently, 4v5s don't matter. Your team is on steroids, their team isn't.

I have a 70% win rate on Nunu right now. Dragon is THAT powerful.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Congratulations, you got carried then while actively NOT fighting the enemy and leaving that matter to your team ^^

Dunno, even as a support you usually have more agency on how to influence a game. You can even beat a team on steroids if one of them is just completly useless in teamfights. Also even with the steroids... some of your lanes feed because the enemy jungle is actually able to deliver strong ganks. Then a temporary steroid will barely give you a free victory...

Also I'd like to see how you get two barons and 5 dragons in 20 minutes ^^. In that case the whole enemy team must be afk and they never ward while having the map-awareness of a potato (oh my, has silver become so bad recently? o.O). Lewl, in that case I can get those objectives with every jungler.

The Yetii Rider2 votes

It's actually really difficult to take baron at 20 for anyone BUT Nunu. You rush a Spirit Visage, time it so that your blue is up right before 20 minutes, and grab your ADC and head there while everyone else keeps them occupied. A 2 man baron at 20 minutes is pretty impossible for anyone other than Nunu with his super healing and 1000 true damage on an 8 second CD.

Oh, but Nunu is life. My friend mains Nunu jungle and also check out IWDominate in LCS, he plays Nunu a lot. Good ganks and the likes. Great teamfight as well.

Truly Prideful1 votes

Nunu is fine. He is the objective control jungler. He also happens to bring a nice buff for auto attackers and can essentially permaslow an enemy carry or peel for his carries.

Nunu is fine... lol

Your fanatical opposition to everything nunu confuses me.
