Why are people surprised about the Vayne buffs?

The thigh guy··37 votes·11,784 views

Every big ticket skin comes with some line of buffs to the champion for the past few years. It’s nothing new.

I mean Lucien was at a 51% winrate before his high noon skin and was buffed right before it.

Jinx was at a 50% winrate before her star guardian skin and got buffed.

Lux was buffed for her ultimate skin

It’s not a new phenomenon. Rito is scrapping the cash out of us.

Not saying I agree with it. But it’s old news.

Straight up wrong, he got the buff 1 patch later than the skin.

Jinx was at a 50% winrate before her star guardian skin and got buffed.

And just as you take her as example I can take Caitlyn being gutted to commemorate her Pulsefire skin, or Ashe being nerfed with Project (those are examples I remember because I play both Cait and Ashe, there are more cases if you search), or the KDA Girls being nerfed while they were getting the skins just some months ago.

You have to take all the cases in count, pretending that champs that get skins are only buffed and never nerfed it's just a blatant manipulation.

Big ticket. Outside of kda, none of those skins were big ticket releases. Outside of project Ashe who was already top 2 adc for pro play when that skin was dropped.

So no. I didn’t “leave them out” they just weren’t relevant.

Nice try though.

Project Ashe and Pulsefire Caitlyn are both legendary skins, though. Legendary's as big ticket as you can get short of ultimate skins and large-scale events.

Caitlyn’s legendary skin is the most forgettable legendary skin in the game. Ashe was already god tier in pro play during that release.

Both were hyped up and very high quality skins. I guess it’s okay for you to ignore them cause it doesn’t fit your narrative.

Not to mention Akali and Kaisa got nerfs before and after KDA skin release.

I guess we ignore all this shit cause it doesn’t fit ur narrative. Just cause ur ignorant doesn’t mean things aren’t “relevant”

Nice Try But Not Really.

Pulsefire Caitlyn was NOT hyped up in the slightest. Idk why the fuck you’re talking about, nor is it even close to on par with a large chunk of the other legendary skins.

And Ashe was already god tier. Riot made more money off lcs than any individual skin sale. So why the actual fuck would they risk that by buffing a god tier pick in lcs during the time?

As for the kda skins. Okay? Cool? You found 1 example in a line that was GAURENTEED go succeed because Ahri was in it. :/

But you know. I’m just ignorant and that makes every point I make irrelevant.

Try and think a little before shit posting buddy.

“Ashe was god tier”. No. She was played at worlds as a soft counter to Cait and for her CC. She was average tier in SoloQ.

At the time of project release lcs meta was, sivir, Ashe and Caitlyn. So yes. She was god tier. Soloq is not relevant in this conversation. Because rito makes more money if lcs than any individual skin.

Holy shit. You’ll literally just make shit up.

Riot barely monetized LCS until this year. It was used a promotion for their game and they just foot the bill.

Honestly. Don’t know what I expected when talking to the average boards user. Disgusting.

Ashe and Caitlyn were 1820 skins, those are big tickets just as the Lucian skin you complain about messing up the order of the buff and skin btw.

pulsefire Caitlyn is the most forgettable legendary skin in the game. Had little to no promotion and little to no actual player base at the time.

Ashe could not be buffed because of pro play. And idk if you know this. But riot makes more money off lcs than any individual skin. So they wouldn’t risk it buffing Ashe for that release.

Whaaaaat, it had an average promotion that came aswell with the Pulsefire Ezreal rework.

And Caitlyn was fucking broken and that's why she was starting to be gutted when they released the skin and sure had a lot of playerbase as she always had.

Yeah, like Vayne also got nerfed hard after the release of her PROJECT skin. I wonder what kind of heavy nerf awauts her now...

I remember the release of project ashe. She was nerfed like right after. or before, I fotgot.

Critmaster Garen7 votes

i hate to say it, but it was suspicious that garen and darius were among the strongest champions during the versus event, because the meta happened to favour them like crazy back then.

not because of their own strength but the other champions that were popular at the time were easily countered by both of them.

it seems to go further than just direct buffs. i think they know how to manipulate the game a few month in advance of a major skin release to slip certain champions into the meta right when they drop the skins.

maybe this is paranoid, but there have been a whole lot of coincidences like this, and they tend to be nerfed a few weeks later when the initial sales slow down.

maybe im overthinking this, because in hindsight the odyssee event was a much bigger deal with more skins involved and those champions werent meta at the time.

it still feels weird how often skin releases and specific champions being strong or buffed at the same time line up that well.

Lhuhz2 votes

You think that Riot is smarter than what they are.

You think that Riot is smarter than what they are.

i think youre underestimating them.

they have showcased some pretty powerful data tools that dont just tell them how buffs and nerfs affect the champions directly, but also other champions they synergize with, counter or get countered by.

you could even play around with them yourself. typing the name of a champion would draw a web of other champions that interact with the one you gave as input, either positively or negatively.

i think it would be possible for them to say "which champion do we want in the meta next" and nerf counters and buff synergetic champions and bring a champion into the meta via indirect buffs.

for example if you want Garen to be strong, all you have to do is bring low cc, squishy melee assassins like Zed Khazix and others into the meta.

Dude when something is too much of a coincidence, then it's not.

Eh, it's actually not always a buff. Sometimes a nerf but that was been pointed out.

While balance is separate from skins, I'd IMAGINE a new toy coming out gets the team talking about the champ and/or playing them, at which point they assume the champ needs a buff/nerf.

sobi9992 votes

You literally admitted it, though whilst you did, you make riot sound innocent. I can't see how a chinese company will not scavenge everything possible, from all of its revenue. Not against it, since to them it's business but you can't then act innocent as well.

sobi9991 votes

It doesn't matter if the nerf was such that people would still purchase the skin. Look at the root of the cause, if riot buffed vayne so she was stinn manageable before her skin was released, it would have been fine but the buff is incredibly OP in the right hands and this does make you suspicious of their actions, especially when an ultimate skin is to be released.

420 grams3 votes

Caitlyn was op for a long time and wasn't nerfed until a couple patches after the pulsefire skin

PhantomSpirit1011 votes

She was gutted on the patch of the skin's release (or was it the patch after... if it was, her skin was released so late into the patch (like the last 3 days) that it might as well be the next patch)

Nevrankroaton3 votes

LeeSin got nerfed when new skins would come, it was almost a joke back in S3 that having a legendary skin would make you nerf at the same time.

IDK what you smoke with your BS illuminati theory.

Zardo2 votes

Riot has said before- making skins for champions makes them pay more attention to them, be it nerfs or buffs. Take the kda kai'sa skin, shipped right with her nerf. Pulsfire caitlyn- same thing. Stop with the conspiracies lol

Aatrox got nerfed twice in the past few weeks. Right before his Blood Moon and Prestige skins.

Good job Riot excellent choice to push your skins up.

Yet Jinx is still trash and there is a reason nobody plays a champ that doesn't come online until 35 minutes.

It's not just about whether the champion is getting an expensive skin or not, it's about whether they can make LC$bigplays. Kai'sa, Lucian, and Vayne are known to do that because of their mobile, hypercarry playstyle. Ashe and Cait are less flashy, so their skins were accompanied by nerfs. Tahm Kench is also getting a new skin, but he's not getting buffed because he doesn't make LC$bigplays; in fact, he PREVENTS them with his W. Riot doesn't want to encourage people to play champions that aren't flashy and exciting, so every once in a while they'll toss a skin to Ashe or Nautilus etc. just to shut us up for a while. Meanwhile champs like Ahri and Ezreal get 2-3 skins every year. At this point, anyone who doesn't believe Riot shows favoritism is willfully ignorant tbh.
