Support's job after laning phase?

So I was playing support today and I did fairly well, but I found myself wandering around after laning phase, not really accomplishing anything. I know my job in lane, but what should I focus on outside of that? Most of the carries are rotating and clearing waves so do I just follow them until an opportunity to engage a fight breaks out? Also, when is the best possible time to roam mid as a support? Thanks for your time, any help is greatly appreciated (:

After you hit level 6 you should be roaming around and warding more but you usually do not completely leave the adc's side (unless they are bad) until level 9ish. Laning phase ends usually when the first towers fall between 12-20 minutes depending on your Elo.

Once I hit level 7 or 8 I start moving around the map more. Usually you need to stay in some lane until level 9 for the xp to get sweeper.

If your ADC is terrible and feeding you stay with them until level 6 and then you help the teammate that is most likely to carry or doing OK. You are a support to the carry on your team, whether that is your ADC or you mid laner or you jungler or your top laner. You need to simple help the players that give you the best chance to win. Helping a bad ADC that is feeding is typically not the best strategy.

Here is how I would describe it. So after laning phase say idk 20 minutes into the game your job can be difficult or fairly easy. It depends on the champ you are playing as well as the competence of your adc. So after laning phase your job doesn't really change much you are just moving around now. Keeping ward coverage on important objectives and keeping your adc alive are the two most important things for a support to do after laning phase. I mean you can roam and possibly make plays as well if you have an adc that understands not to push up when you are not there. So thats about as simple as I can explain it.

Support main here. I main Thresh, Val'Koz, and Karma. I do similar things with all of them.

Laning phase: Protect your carry, help them in any engage. Poke the enemy and look for any opertunities you can use. Post lanining phase: Follow the most fed champion, get them more kills and help them carry more. If everyone is around the same kills, help the ADC. Don't go out alone, but ward all the time when you go through the jg.

When to roam mid: Honestly, it depends. Earliest I went was after the jg banks my land and their bot leaves or my ADC leaves. I go up with the jg to mid, but only if their mid is pushed. Other than that, go mid after you take the enemy bot tower.

-Group with team and shove + destroy the other lane's outer turrets, while looking for picks on people who get too close (hence out of position).

-Ward around the lane you are pushing so you can easily respond to teamfights and engages (i.e. enemy Zac might jump in and ult).

-In a teamfight, look for a good CC (i.e. 5 man ults), lock down champions with CC to get kills, and peel your squishies using exhaust and CC if someone is on them. (Don't forget to use your active items.)

-Roam with team or adc to wreck other lanes.

-If the enemy team is dumb and is ignoring bot lane for the most part during and after you destroyed enemy bot outer turret, you can shove your inner turret and, using your lead, you can easily win the 2v2 teamfights/skirmishes and destroy the inner turret.

-Keep in mind the objectives by warding them or just by using map awareness (i.e. if all 5 of the enemy team are mia, they are probably doing one of the objectives, and you will be able to tell which one depending on how far ahead they are or how long the game has been)

-Follow your team if they want to do dragon/baron and ward accordingly, as well as destroy enemy wards
