How to play support when behind?

So I've recently started playing support because my cousin mains ADC, and we've been having quite a bit of success. I love supports like Alistar, Soraka, and Karma. But for me it always feels like when we get get ganked a ton and fall behind, I feel useless and we just slowly lose the game. So I have three main questions:

  1. What should my job be as a support when behind?

  2. Are these jobs different depending on the champion I'm playing?

  3. What should my map play look like? Should I be roaming or sticking with my ADC?

Thanks so much for your time and any tips are greatly appreciated!

How to support when behind in lane : Leave your bad ADC by themself to go help mid or top lane get kills and make plays.

There is a certain point where you need to leave the special needs people to die by themselves.

you play supports who have utility and cc ... behind or not those are always effective

  1. Look for windows of opportunities if enemies are fucking themselves over, such as overextending or get singled out at the wrong time. As a support, it's really easy to fish them because you have the CC, even a Sona can do something to catch out something. You also want to try to keep your teammates from screwing up further by peeling, if possible.
  2. Kinda explained in #1.
  3. Depends on who's fed. If your ADC is behind and needs to farm to catch up, leave him so that he has chance to catch up, and that you get to do something more productive. If your ADC is fed, you're probably gonna have to stick around a little more since the enemy team is going after him. Always be on the lookout and ward at places where appropriate. So say if your team is taking mid tower, don't ward the river, ward the dark spots around that tower! If your red trinket is up and people are seemingly peaceful farming, go scout around and clear wards, but do it only when you know you're going to be safe and/or you know how to get out alive.

I'll be around for more questions if you want.
