The LoL Dyrus loved is not the LoL we have today.

The game has changed so many times, I'm even running out of friends who still play the game. It's been so long since I've thoroughly enjoyed the game. The characters I fell in love with that inspired me to play LoL aren't the same. Lore has changed, gameplay has changed, items have changed.

Sure, it's still LoL at it's core - but that core is rotting away.

Even the champion's backgrounds aren't fun anymore. The last champion that really drew me in with its personality and representation was Jinx and that was in October 2013 - 2 YEARS AGO.

Everything is super-serious nowadays. I don't feel as immersed in LoL as I did back then.

EDIT: Braum was pretty cool, too.

Ah nostalgia, how overrated.

personally my last favorite release was yasuo and i haven't cared about any champions since (though i'm recently getting into playing bard). I do miss the old days though where i could queue up for a normals ALONE and HAVE FUN. Sadly it's hard to enjoy the game alone anymore.

E-sports kinda screwed over in alot of ways. They have to appeal to a even more causal then ever. Which is why i feel like some champions never get nerfed.

+1 for the OP. Rotting game, will be dead in 2-3 years

I'm with you when I first started I I found friends easy now a days people don't talk, or they trash talk because someone isn't a pro on the team. Riot is making this game way to competitive with rewards for hitting what gold and higher for free stuff.

idk I got into this game late right around when braum was released, and all I've heard is how much better league used to be. well I think its still great. maybe it doesn't compare to old league, I can't say cuz I wasn't around for that. but I love this game. it is still fun and very competitive. there have been quite a few champs I've loved that they've released since I started playing. I was hyped for Azir and Ekko especially and they are still two of my favorite champions in the game. I think riot is making the game a little more complex and epic. sometimes they tend to try a little TOO hard, but i'd rather riot try so hard they make something too complex than the game just stays stale and over simplified.

I really hope this game doesn't die. I just want Riot to see the warning signs everywhere and, even if Esports remains as one of their core focuses, I want Riot to make more content for its community directly.

I think a big thing with Riot is that their logic is something along the lines of 'instead of making this a community game, we'll provide content for the community indirectly through Esports'.

Esports is the key reason the game is like it is. Their dedication to Esports is part of spawned their decision to only focus on one map. It's what balance is made around. It has tremendous impact on what the meta is. Even champion design has Esports in mind. I would argue esports is what ultimately rotted out the core.

Riot has made everything much more homogeneous. Everyone plays the same champions. Builds the same builds. Even plays the same map. If you would have told me 3 years ago that Riot was going to abandon every other game mode I wouldn't have believed you. The gameplay and creativity has declined. The vibrant online community has declined. Enthusiasm in general has declined.

Riot is working on a new game. I am guessing they see the writing on the wall. Their glassdoor reviews suggest a number of employees certainly do.
