I really dislike when people think that you need to play passively as a healing/shielding/tank support.
You're going to get zoned instantly in this meta if you don't push back.
can do so much damage with
. They can even kill your carry.
I'm a
and I'm always trying to carve out room in the lane for my carry. I know if we get zoned under tower that the enemy will likely freeze the wave and attempt to starve us of XP. Supports already are on a lean XP diet, and ADCs scale. So that can have a huge impact on the game and make us easier to kill or dive.
Supports need to be active in lane. Don't just sit behind the ADC because they're weak early game. They can't protect you.
The meta bot lane has changed a lot since last season. Previously you could play passively and get by for the most part.
Marksmen are no longer in an unusually absurd state, except for the Marksmen of the Moment™, previously
now
. In addition last season we didn't really see a lot of AP mages bot. You did in low ELO, but many experienced support players could deal with them easily because they were fill mid laners. They'd end up siphoning gold from their carry and get punished for it. However this season is different.
They can get away with a lot more and actually become the carry bot lane. The reason they're picked so often is because it is difficult to protect your carry when you leave lane. Many people are finding it easier to just kill the incoming broken assassin or put out an absurd amount of damage to make them back off. Certain champions with
are allowed to do that. They don't have many issues getting
either. Almost every AP support in Gold I've seen has that item, and they get it quite early.
There isn't any downside to getting it for them because they can do so much damage with very little.
You really do not want to be playing passively as a support. That shouldn't be your playstyle anyways, but in this bot lane meta you're going to have a rough time if you do.
