36% maximum health tahm devour damage

Congratulations! You have learned to auto attack your enemy three times, and have therefore mastered the River King's passive! As a reward, you can now do 36% of the enemy's maximum health as long as you are in melee range!

Full ap tahm is going to be so fun. Devour has a .04 ap ratio also, so at 900 ap devour will do 72% of the enemies maximum health. Then all you have to do is hit Q, which has an .8 ap ratio, and they are finished. Whether this will become something big or not, I think 36% of max health is too high for a base damage. Just my opinion.

whopee, he does more damage to tanks than vel koz's ult

...WIth his basic ability

His AA range doesn't look to be very long, and he appears slow.

He might be good 1v1 but in teamfights I think he'll be weak.

his aa range is 200 which is longer than any standard melee, his teamfighting isn't bad but the ult doesn't do much without something like sejuani to initiate with

What does he do in a teamfight besides initiate? I'm thinking he's a support/tank so he needs the %health damage to make sure people don't just ignore him.

idk you slap somebody then you eat them then you slap some more

He's also good at tanking for a bit then dropping aggro since most people won't want to hit a 2k health shield and will instead let it decay

I found the best use for his ult was tank shredding since it does such a massive amount; just eat whoever decides to dive and spit them into a favorable position that doesn't kill your own team and they'll be weak as shit

He has the longest AA range of a melee.

that's only gonna work if they walk into a bush since you're not likely going to be allowed to walk up and hit them three times; using his E might let you live a bit longer but using it optimally has a large margin for human error, especially with a full ap build which should only give around 800 ap anyways

Their are so many factors Balancing that.

  1. The cooldown on that ability is fairly long.

  2. It's highly unlikely to survive any given amount of time if you build him ful AP.

  3. He needs to stack his passive 3 times. Hard to do if your Glass cannon.

  4. The Very Fact that his W can be cast in a variety of ways makes his Cooldowns all that more prevalent. You may need to save an Ally or poke from afar. You would have to make Choices in that respect.

just build tank and mpen a tank that can nuke you for 40% of your max health with one skill seems a bit much, but we'll see

his best build is prob gonna be something like

visage, randuin's, warmog's, liandry's, void/more tank

but yeah the AP scaling on it is really bad. It takes 900 AP to double it. Compare to a typical mage spell with like 250 + 0.7, which takes about 350 AP to double the damage

Watching some streams he looks okay. He has high burst on a single target with decent long cooldowns even with CDR on his Devour and spitting targets out seems to have a large AoE which I believe could be more of a problem than a single target nuke. I do like how the skill has offensive or utility for the team though, so you could potentially save an ally through all the burst or take a enemy out of the fight.

His Q is also single target and a skillshot that can be body blocked on a low cooldown, so it seems okay to me.

His shield is the thing that seems absurd to me considering you build HP on him so basically you can have around a 8k-9k hp late game on average if you time your shield correctly (4kish on average if you build HP items) but I do understand the need for him to be tanky considering his lack of reliable AoE, movement speed, needs three autos on a single target to maximize his potential(which if you build HP you attack slow, and move slow which makes it difficult in team fights), and single target damage although I feel with this shield being so strong it either forces you to focus him and burn through the shield+base HP allowing his team to be more effective or let him run rampant and devour targets without contest which then his W becomes a problem.

His ult seems fine to me it has a mediumt ish range considering global ults... the lack of vision/channel time allows for some outplay if you think quick, but the damage based on HP is a little too strong in my opinion considering his ultimate active already has a great function...could use less base damage in my opinion.

Gonna give him a try this week to re-evaluate but as all newly released champions they usually have something OP or broken in their kit which is why the PTR is there for people to give it a go. And if you build him AP I believe it's a waste considering you can get bursted down in seconds even with your shield your short ranged abilities and need for auto attacking which is highly unlikely in a team fight unless you build an AS item and even if you do you will most likely only trade your life for your targets since you most likely have to burn flash to even get in range of your enemy since his Q (slow) is single target which can be blocked by allies (tanks) and minions which to be honest will be quite hard in a team fight with all the chaos running around. Group fight wise that is. 1v1 he is definitely strong maybe too strong but this isn't a 1v1 game.

Let Riot run it's course and wait for an official release before busting out the pitchforks folks.
